South Dakota’s #1 QB for 2022 Class Commits to Gophers
It’s been one hell of a start to the 2022 Minnesota Gophers football recruiting class for PJ Fleck and his staff. That continued on Saturday night when South Dakota’s top high school quarterback, Jacob Knuth, grabbed his oar and jumped in the boat.
The early 2022 3-man class is now ranked 6th in the Big Ten and 27th in the nation.

According to 247Sports, Knuth accepted the Minnesota offer soon after receiving it. Yet, he still got offered by Iowa and Kansas State in the interim. Had Jacob waited any longer, the power-5 offer letters were about to pile up. Notre Dame and Nebraska were among the teams sniffing around.
He is big at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, fast and mobile, and shows the arm to make throws to any part of the field. Had he not jumped on the Gopher offer, it was a good bet that offer was going to set off a chain of offers because it is not a super deep quarterback year in the northern states and he has some of the best tape. – Allen Trieu (247Sports.com)
What are Gophers getting in Knuth?
At a whopping 6-4, 200 lbs as a high school Junior, Jacob Knuth is THE prototypical mobile quarterback. He has a good arm and can outrun most high school athletes, as seen in his Hudl film below. This is clearly a QB on the rise.
PJ Fleck wouldn’t bring in a quarterback who isn’t equipped to lead a football team. Jacob Knuth, who wanted to commit to a school early so he can help recruit a great class to row the boat with him, is no exception.
I also want to play major role in helping organize and recruit my 2022 class to wherever I’m headed. I’ve watched good classes turn into great ones when the earlier recruits commit and then get organized and rally around and recruit other key athletes. – Jacob Knuth (via 247Sports.com)
