Talks Between Carlos Correa and Twins Heating Up Again

The Minnesota Twins have been flirting with Carlos Correa this entire offseason and that didn’t stop while he was signing mega-deals and then failing physicals with the Giants and Mets. But on Monday night, according to Ken Rosenthal and Dan Hayes (The Athletic), talks between the two clubs are heating up again.

The possibility of a stunning reunion between Carlos Correa and the Twins is increasing, team sources said Monday night.

With the status of the mega-deal he agreed to with the New York Mets last month unresolved, the Twins suddenly are back in the mix for the free-agent shortstop. Two club sources said Monday that talks between the Twins and Correa have begun to accelerate. A separate major-league source confirmed the development as well.

About an hour after The Athletic’s initial report, Jon Heyman of the New York Post released his own report on the situation, calling the renewed talks between the Twins and Correa on Monday night, “serious”, saying they have a “decent chance to retain the star shortstop they had thought was surely gone to the Mets”.

Carlos Correa would need to pass physical

The Twins would still want to conduct their own physical on Correa so, even if a deal were to get signed, nothing would be guaranteed until he cleared that. Still, the Minnesota Twins organization should know better than any other team, what Carlos Correa’s ankle looks like.

I’ll just leave the last paragraph of The Athletic’s article right here…

The Twins loved what Correa brought to them in their one season together, a mix of swagger and baseball savvy. And now, in yet another stunning turn, they are in position to bring the Correa saga full circle.

Late Monday Twist

Twitter was abuzz throughout Monday that Correa and the Mets are close. Many thought to be in the know, had officially counted the Twins out. Hours later, Rosenthal drops this report, which means another round of negotiations must have fallen through late Monday.

Is this just another Scott Boras negotiating tactic or is Carlos Correa really about to land in the Twins’ laps yet again?
