With all the talk about Odell Beckham Jr these last couple days, we’ve gotten distracted from other players around the league, who the Vikings may or may not be interested in. Trent Williams is a name that has been on the Washington trade block since last season.

Reilly Reiff has been serviceable at LT for the Vikings but his $13 mil cap hit is high, and if you are going to pay that or a bit more, the money would be best served towards a potential franchise-changing player like Trent Williams.

Darren Wolfson (KSTP/SKOR North) says the Vikings are still talking with Washington (tweet above) and he is quote-tweeting John Keim, who covers the Redskins for ESPN, dropped a new podcast today. In that podcast, John mentioned the Vikings as his favorite to land Williams, as well. He dropped a couple of bombs that involve the Vikings and the Washington left tackle. You don’t have to wait long after pressing play. His Trent Williams notes are first on his topic list. (Scroll to the 01:34 mark)

“I know Minnesota was one of the teams definitely interested and I think they probably remain the team to watch. Whether they get him or not, I don’t know.”

The John Keim Report Podcast

If the Vikings could seal the deal for the Washington left tackle, they’d solidify both ends of the OL, while simultaneously making Reiff dispensable. The options would be endless with him. Spielman could approach him for a contract restructure, maybe a move to LG…. or a move to a new team.

Keim says the Redskins would be willing to take picks for the 2021 Draft, if that’s the best offer… the Vikings have to like that because they need their picks next weekend! With the potential loss of Williams, it might even make sense to package Reiff, along with whatever potential picks you ship out…

I talked to someone a week ago and the feeling is, they’ll be just as happy adding picks in next year’s draft, as well as this year’s. So whatever it goes. If they get them for 2021, they’re going to be just ok.

The John Keim Report Podcast

Taking Reiff as part of the trade package would give the Redskins someone proven, if only for one season, to help protect Haskins (or whoever they take on Thursday night). Reiff would be better than nothing, which is what they’d have if they stand-pat and do nothing, because Williams has made it clear that he’s not playing there.

We may be in the middle of a pandemic, but with less than a week remaining before the draft, things are going to start happening soon enough. Chaos will unfold… and I’m here for all of it.

Trent Williams and Kirk Cousins were teammates in Washington from 2012-2017. I think it’s safe to say, Cousins would welcome some trusted protection for his blind side…

Vikings Bring C- Effort on Thursday Night But Still Dispose of REALLY Bad Washington Team https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/vikings-bring-c-effort-on-thursday-night-but-still-dispose-of-really-bad-washington-team/ https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/vikings-bring-c-effort-on-thursday-night-but-still-dispose-of-really-bad-washington-team/#respond Fri, 25 Oct 2019 03:12:40 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=18945 [et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”4.0.2″][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.0.2″][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.0.2″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.0.2″]

So, let’s talk about Thursday Night Football… I’m glad it’s over.

If you missed the last 3 weeks of pure Vikings domination, and decided to tune in this week… you need to forget everything you just watched. Call up Will Smith. Maybe he has an neuralyzer lying around somewhere. Tonight was ugly. That’s something Thursday Night Football is often known for and I’m trying not to let it take over my thought process surrounding this football team.

Let’s get into it a little bit and see how I feel coming out of the other end…

It started out just like we thought it would. Our offense was getting into a rhythm on the first drive and Cousins hit Diggs for a big play early. He didn’t want to be giving out any apologies after this game… but Diggs definitely might have some regrets to discuss:

[/et_pb_code][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.0.2″]

From there, the game just got weird. The Vikings weren’t void of big plays. They had plenty of them and picking up yards wasn’t a problem in the running or passing game. It was weird and stupid shit. The coaches were calling stupid plays at stupid times or being aggressive when they shouldn’t be… Let’s just say, it was a good thing that our opponent tonight was the forever worthless Washington Redskins. They suck too much, especially after Keenum went out, for us to beat ourselves.

Oh yeah, let’s get back to some of those big plays I was talking about:

So, the Vikings ended up winning easily, even though the game score late in the 4th quarter looked a lot closer than it felt, at any point in the second half (10 points). I’m chalking this ugly fest, with its poor play and boringness, to the fact that it was played on Thursday Night. I don’t think we need to worry about this being the Vikings team we see take the field 10 days from now vs the Chiefs.

For as many negatives as you can take from this game (that I am turning a blind eye to), there are a hell of a lot of positives you can look at.

Kirk Cousins still looked like “Fuck You” Kirk Cousins. He looked confident and ready to fire (and did) when given opportunities. He is the key to a deep playoff run. I’ve already booked us into the playoffs. Hopefully, Mike Zimmer can get his defense right before that time, but the key to winning games once we are there, is Kirk Cousins and my confidence in him grew this week.

And, a W is a W.

Another Chapter for Adrian Peterson; Will it Be Boom, Bust, or Injury…. https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/another-chapter-for-adrian-peterson-will-it-be-boom-bust-or-injury/ https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/another-chapter-for-adrian-peterson-will-it-be-boom-bust-or-injury/#respond Wed, 22 Aug 2018 11:51:00 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=10658

After being plagued by injuries at the running back position, including the loss of rookie RB Derrius Guice, the Washington Redskins have turned to a familiar face to add some depth:

Peterson, who played for the Vikings from 2007-2016, wowed Redskins coach – Jay Gruden – in a workout for Washington this weekend. The former Sooner runningback has had some history on what will now be his home turf. In 2011, Peterson tore his ACL and MCL during a win vs the Redskins. FedEx Field has a long and well-documented history of issues on its turf.  We won’t get into that here but let’s just say Peterson’s knee hasn’t been the only one to blow up in the cow pasture.

Now his knees his knees are tasked with holding up through the course of 8 games at FedEx. That is, of course, assuming he lasts the entire season. After signing with the Saints before the start of last season, Adrian had a chance to stick it to the Vikings in week 1 last year. However, He and Sean Peyton didn’t exactly see eye to eye over his usage in that 29-19 opening-week defeat, in which he totaled 18 yards on 6 carries.

Moving past all of this, Peterson could theoretically work out for Washington, as long as he’s not asked to catch the ball or pick up blitzes. With standout pass-catcher Chris Thompson on the roster, that portion will already be taken care of. When Peterson is in to block, Alex Smith better make sure he knows where he’s going with the ball quickly. All in all… it could work.
