The Vikings’ initial week 12 injury report on Wednesday — which was simulated because teams do not hold full practice that day — was mostly positive, especially center Ryan Kelly who would have returned to full practice yesterday for the first time since week 4, had the Vikings held one.

Thankfully on Thursday, Kelly did indeed get back on the practice field with teammates, where he was listed on the injury report as “Full” for the second-straight day. At this point, it would be a surprise, at this point, if he doesn’t start vs Green Bay.

Jonathan Greenard, Will Fries upgraded on latest injury report

Really, the only real concerns yesterday revolved around OLB Jonathan Greenard and RG Will Fries, who were both listed as DNP’s. Greenard sat out due to a shoulder injury that has already cost him one game.

Fries, meanwhile, made a surprise appearance. Unlike with Greenard, head coach Kevin O’Connell did not mention anything about Will Fries’ injury before practice.

Nobody really cared on thursday, however, when both Fries and Greenard were upgraded from DNP to “Limited”. Of course, this doesn’t mean either guy will play for sure vs the Packers, but it is a positive step in that direction.

With his teammates getting healthier, starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw was Minnesota’s only DNP today. That’s normal, though. He’s been taking Thursdays off all season, when games fall on Sundays, as he continues to work his way back to 100% off last year’s knee surgery.

Minnesota Vikings waive CB Dwight McGlothern

In other news, the Minnesota Vikings released cornerback Dwight McGlothern this afternoon. They are expected to use that roster spot for Ryan Kelly.

Not that long ago, McGlothern — a 2024 UDFA — was seen as the latest UDFA talent to be plucked into NFL relevance by Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

He splashed in camp and during preseason last year, before earning a spot on the practice squad, then eventually, the active roster, where he played five games. Unfortunately, his development hit a standstill at some point and now 8 games played into 2025, and he is no longer a Viking… at least for now.

Dwight McGlothern hits the waiver wire for any team intrigued enough to place him on their 53-man roster. If nobody puts out a claim on him, I’d expect the Vikings to place him on their practice squad.

Vikings Waive Jalen Reagor, Sign Former Dolphins Running Back https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/vikings-waive-jalen-reagor-sign-myles-gaskin/ Wed, 30 Aug 2023 14:11:36 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=43200 Jalen Reagor trade rumors popped up out of nowhere on Tuesday but, one day later, the Minnesota Vikings have waived him, making it clear they had less suitors lining up to deal for him than what Adam Schefter (ESPN) was led to believe. The Vikings will eat $2.4 million in cap space, unless another team chooses to pick it up, by claiming him off the waiver wire.

Jalen departs from the Vikings with a total of 8 receptions on 13 targets. He piled up 104 receiving yards and 1 touchdown, in his 17 games wearing the purple #5. Reminder, for those who live under a rock, Jalen Reagor was picked by the Philadelphia Eagles one slot (#21 overall) ahead of where Rick Spielman & Co drafted Justin Jefferson, back in 2020.

Taking Reagor’s spot on the 53-man roster will be former Miami Dolphins running back, Myles Gaskin, a 26-year-old veteran who has four years of experience under his belt. Gaskin has ran for 1,355 yards and 7 touchdowns in his career, with a 3.8 YPC average and will serve as depth behind Vikings RB1, Alexander Mattison.

Vikings Waive Bashaud Breeland After Spat With Coaches and Teammates, More https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/vikings-waive-bashaud-breeland-after-spat-with-coaches-and-teammates-more/ Sat, 18 Dec 2021 22:03:33 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=37510 The Minnesota Vikings signed Bashaud Breeland during the offseason, they thought he’d be another veteran presence for a young secondary that, if nothing else, needed the depth. At times, he’s been pretty good.

Other times, he’s been really bad. But Breeland definitely provided something for Mike Zimmer, who played him as the starter for a majority of the defensive snaps when healthy. On Saturday afternoon, however, Breeland was waived. He tweeted “wow” minutes before the news broke.

What happened?

Tom Pelissero (NFL Network) first reported that Breeland had gotten into it with teammates and coaches at practice on Saturday. It must’ve been relatively early on if they gave him a non-participant designation. Ben Goessling (Star Tribune) indulged deeper into what happened between Breeland, Cook and others. The altercation started as trash talk but got so bad that it had to be broken up by Rick Spielman, himself.

Shortly after his waived status was made public, Chris Tomasson (Pioneer Press) reported that Breeland, who was on the injury report with a “non-injury related” designation on Saturday, was sued for $15,000 back in October, accused of smoking a lot of pot in his non-smoking apartment complex. There doesn’t appear to be a correlation between the lawsuit and Breeland’s release.

The Numbers

Breeland’s numbers this season certainly didn’t help his cause. According to Pro Football Focus, he’s allowed 13.5 yards per reception and a passer rating of 112.6 when thrown at. His 47.2 PFF grade ranks 117 of 119 cornerbacks in the NFL.

This leaves the Minnesota Vikings thin at CB. It’ll be Patrick Peterson, Cam Dantzler and Kris Boyd on the outside, with Mackensie Alexander patrolling the slot. Any updates that release in the next couple of hours will be added to this blog.
