Sam Dyson underwent capsule repair surgery in his right shoulder yesterday. He will not pitch again this season, and next season is also in jeopardy.

Rocco said the timeline for a return can be up to 12 months. Didn’t know yet whether Dyson will pitch next year.

It’s been a long fucking day, mostly full of nothing but technical difficulties with this new Live-Streamed YouTube show we are launching…. anyway, I missed this news and wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry, when I did see it just now.

Crying was the right choice because the more I was dwelling on it, the more irritated I was getting. How the fuck was there not something shady going on with that deal? Dyson had been hurt for YEARS. He fucking admits it! These are professional organizations and the San Francisco Giants are one of the better ones. You can’t convince me their training staff had no idea what was going on.

Sam Dyson should feel like an asshole too. Everyone knew he was on the trading block. What kind of possessed soul doesn’t disclose an injury when he’s nearly guaranteed to be traded to a new team? Dyson is a Ginger, though and the Ginger race is said to be soul-less…. so maybe this isn’t on the Giants. Maybe this is just another layer of our Minnesota curse. I can’t rule that out either.

The Twins had looked into whether either the Giants or Dyson should have known and/or informed them there was a possible injury issue, sources have confirmed.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.29.3″ hover_enabled=”0″ _i=”3″ _address=”0.0.0.3″]

It looks like the Twins are at least curious as to how they got fucked over so badly in this deadline deal. I’ve seen reports out of both the Star Tribune (above) and Darren Wolfson, that say the Twins have/are “looking into” what the Giants might have known or what they should have known about Dyson’s injury. As Wolfson says, it’s unlikely the inquiry gets anywhere because it would be a difficult thing to prove.

So, I’ll just speculate. They knew. They had to.

What assholes.

Then, I started looking for an image to attach to this post and found out EVERYTHING we needed to know about him. How did we trade for this guy? Lol, it had to be a black fucking cat too. Why not just break some mirrors in the plane on your way here too? Maybe walk under a couple of ladders as you move from the parking lot to the ballpark…? Come on.

Could Less Starter Innings + A Vastly Improved Bullpen = The Twins WS Formula… https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-twins/could-less-starter-innings-a-vastly-improved-bullpen-the-twins-ws-formula/ https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-twins/could-less-starter-innings-a-vastly-improved-bullpen-the-twins-ws-formula/#respond Thu, 29 Aug 2019 16:09:15 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=17993 Remember when every Twins fan around the world was crying in desperation, for bullpen help before the trade deadline? Well, we got our bullpen help (barely), and I’ll tell you what… I’m starting to feel pretty damn confident about the relievers that this team has put together, especially after the last two games of this Chicago series.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_code _builder_version=”3.27.3″ hover_enabled=”0″ _i=”1″ _address=”0.0.0.1″] [/et_pb_code][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.27.3″ hover_enabled=”0″ _i=”2″ _address=”0.0.0.2″]

Michael Pineda had another solid START to his outing on Tuesday but was the latest Twins starter to be pulled before the end of the 6th inning, with or without a bunch of runs already on the board. He threw just 89 pitches but 27 of them were in the 5th, his last inning. Jake Odorizzi had his best outing of late on Wednesday, going 6 innings, giving up just 2 runs on 5 hits, 2 BB, and 8 K. He threw 98 pitches.

The media this morning is trying to tout the Twins’ recent success on the mound as the turning of a corner, but I’m definitely not willing to go near there yet. The bullpen is VASTLY improved and the minimum amount they did at the trade deadline, nabbing Romo and Dyson, seems to be all of the push the team needed.

I don’t know if the starting staff has been THAT improved or if the Twins coaching staff is just asking them to do that much LESS…

I’ve been thinking a lot lately, about the best way for the Twins to line up their pitching staff for the playoffs, and one theme remains constant in my search. Our starters (outside of a GOOD Jose Berrios) can usually hold down the fort for 5 decent innings and I’d imagine they’d be even better if they knew 5 innings were all the coaching staff wanted out of them..

Is there a successful formula that has the likes of — Trevor May, Taylor Rogers, Sergio Romo, Cody Stashak, Tyler Duffey, Jose Alcala, Brusdar Graterol, and anyone else that proves effective out of the bullpen — taking over almost every playoff game by the 5th or 6th inning?

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.27.3″ hover_enabled=”0″]

There could be.

Right now, the Twins are playing a game nearly every day, and when starters don’t take games into the later innings, your bullpen can get taxed quickly. However, in the playoffs, you will only get two games in a row, maximum, before getting a night off AND your rosters are expanded, so you have more options if those options can be successful.

I think this is what the Twins coaching staff is starting to look at, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see more short starts from most of the staff, as we move toward the end of September. Can the bullpen continue to be this good, though?

That’s the World Series question…

He had by far his best outing in months. His fastball was up above 95 MPH all night and he was able to battle out of the innings that have been haunting him since the end of May. He finished 6 innings with a solid line of: 6H | 0 ER | 4 BB | 3 K | 88 PC.

That should keep him in the rotation for a bit longer. It’s a very and clutch and impressive outing.

But it didn’t take long for the bullpen to fuck it all up…

I’ll admit it. I was down. It got ugly in my living room. Things might have been said and/or tweeted that may or may not be regretful. But, that’s life when your thoughts live on the internet…

Luckily for everyone on Twitter, my wife, kids, and my own well-being… it didn’t take long for the Twins to strike back. It was a group effort but the guy with the World Series cred is the one who delivered the knock-out shot.

Other things:

– Sam Dyson pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning in his first appearance since being traded here, sucking for a few games, and then being sent to the IL for an injury he apparently had before he got here. The Twins will obviously need him to be “good Sam Dyson” the rest of the way.

– Twins fans traveled really well and I’m not sure which team had more fans at this game. The crowd sounded like it was going wild when the Twins had big moments. That’s awesome to see.

– Sergio Romo closed out the game in the 9th and not Taylor Rogers, who was deemed unavailable, after a bunch of innings before the break on Monday.

– Cleveland lost in extra innings tonight, moving the Twins ahead in the AL Central by .5 games.

We let you know yesterday that this was a good possibility but it is now becoming official. Sam Dyson is back in a Twins uniform tonight vs the Brewers. So, tonight has just become even higher level must-see TV (if the Twins aren’t already that for you).

Remember, Martin Perez is pitching for his job tonight in Milwaukee. If he can pitch well OR if the Twins sticks can keep us in the game, we should see Sam Dyson pitch late. Which Sam Dyson do we see though because he doesn’t want to burn “bad Sam Dyson” into our heads any deeper than it’s alrady been engraved.

Teach us a little bit about that “good Sam Dyson” we’ve been told so much about…

It just droped over a half-hour ago but Nelson Cruz has no additional damage on his wrist, outside of the ruptured tendon that is causion NO pain, so he will resume baseball activities Tuesday.

The other bit of news pertains to Sam Dyson and this is more recent and may be just as significant. It looks like Dyson is nearly ready to go again… Hopefully the Sam Dyson that is coming off of the IL is NOT the same as the Sam Dyson who went on there. Hopefully we flew to San Francisco and grabbed whatever mojo he left there, that made him good.

With how shitty the Twins bullpen (and entire pitching staff) has been lately, they BADLY need the good Sam Dyson to be the guy they get on Tuesday.

As for Nelson Cruz, the season may as well have been over if his news wasn’t positive… but it was!

Did you see the latest report about Sam Dyson’s bicep tendinitis? According to both Rocco Baldelli and Derek Falvey, Dyson was dealing with this injury before he started playing his home games at Target Field. These quotes are copied directly from a Lavelle E. Neal piece in the Star Tribune last night (this morning’s paper):

“It’s something that he’s probably been dealing with for a little bit,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. “I think it was probably affecting him, although he’s going to tell you he’s good and he can pitch and he’s ready to go.”

“He didn’t have any open injuries, and from our medical review and otherwise, we felt good about where he was,” Chief Baseball Officer Derek Falvey said. “This is something that has probably popped up for him more recently, and I’m not saying just the days he’s been with us, but something that he had to work through. Now, our focus is just trying to get him as healthy as possible.”

There is a lot to unpack here. The Twins obviously did their own medical review on Dyson, before the trade was cleared. I don’t know exactly what that entails but I will try to find out more today. I’m 98.9% sure it wouldn’t include an MRI because…. you don’t use an MRI on people who appear physically healthy. In other words, unless San Francisco had warned about a lingering injury, you wouldn’t have given Dyson that type of test. An MRI isn’t usually part of your standard physical, to my knowledge…

There are two possibilities here:

A). The Giants didn’t disclose any injury during the trade, even though they knew something was bothering Dyson in his right bicep.

OR

B.) The injury was something that Dyson kept to himself and was able to pitch through successfully, until he was traded to the Twins

“B” would be pretty classic Minnesota. I guess it wouldn’t surprise me, either, because Baldelli talks about how much Sam wanted to pitch through his injury… but that’s not how the Baldalli Llama does things. Ask Byron Buxton or many others. You don’t play injured on this team.

But if it is the former, and the Giants didn’t inform us of an injury that they knew existed… what’s the consequence? Do they have to pay for his MRI? There has to be some precedent that I couldn’t find with google searches this morning, but I don’t know what that discipline would entail. It should definitely be serious AF though, because this injury and bad pitching from Dyson has torn apart friendships and families on Twitter…

Wait…. I have a solution. Send Madison Bumgarner here for the remaining 2-3 months on his contract, with an exemption from the MLB, to make sure he is postseason eligible… since it’s beyond July 31.

I’m so fair. I should be Mayor or something.
