Recently MLB Pipeline said the Minnesota Twins have the second-best system in the majors. That’s a good thing considering how much talent they just offloaded.

Regardless of whose top 100 prospects you choose to look at, there will be a degree of similarity among each of them. Kiley McDaniel of ESPN remains among the most plugged in across the sport. He has previously worked for the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves, and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Six Minnesota Twins prospects among Kiley McDaniel’s top 100

If you’re going to have one of the best systems in baseball, then you’re certainly going to have a number of top prospects. It’s good to have quality depth behind the best names, but it’s those at the top that can carry a future. Six different prospects made Kiley McDaniel’s in-season top 100.

McDaniel also breaks down his group as a whole into tiers. 60 future value is generally seen as a prospect that has the likelihood of being a star. While the scale is 20-80, few talents ever graduate prospect status sitting above the 60 mark.

Of the Twins mentioned, Walker Jenkins is the lone candidate in McDaniel’s 60 FV Tier. The 20-year-old is already at Double-A, and despite having missed time this year due to injury, he is batting .304/.411/.480 across 46 games. It’s likely that Jenkins will be up to Triple-A St. Paul by Setepmber.

No Minnesota prospects sit in the 55 FV Tier, but McDaniel has newly acquired Eduardo Tait and Luke Keaschall in the 50 FV Tier. Tait was the second-best prospect dealt at the deadline, and the Twins would love to see him become their catcher of the future. Keaschall has had a nice start to his career and will likely exhaust rookie status by the end of the season.

There is no specification for prospects beyond Keaschall, but just a handful of months ago Emmanuel Rodriguez would have been on the same level. Injuries have derailed his ascent to the big leagues, but all the tools are there. A consensus top-50 prospect coming into the season, Rodriguez has played just 51 games while dealing with thumb and muscle injuries. He got 47 games in last year while struggling with durability as well.

As a whole, the showing is incredibly strong for the Twins farm system. McDaniel is clearly high on the group as a whole.

Who just missed for the MN Twins?

McDaniel has been high on Charlee Soto for a while. It’s interesting to see him still make the cut after throwing just 13 innings this year, and having his season end with a surgery.

Still, it’s beyond reasonable then to suggest that McDaniel could have had seven Minnesota Twins prospects in his top 100. Kaelen Culpepper has torn up Double-A with Walker Jenkins, and the 2024 first round pick will be in St. Paul soon as well.

The 22-year-old owns a .318/.382/.514 line across 41 games for Wichita. He has nine Double-A dingers, and 18 on the year. With Carlos Correa having been dumped back to Houston, Culpepper could challenge Brooks Lee for time at shortstop in Minnesota next season.

Outside of just Culpepper, there’s potential consideration for Mick Abel too. He is previously a top 50 prospect that is now in the post-hype phase. He has shown incredibly well since joining the organization at Triple-A St. Paul. Minnesota is also very high on left-handed pitching prospect Kendry Rojas, who was enough to get Louie Varland from them.

You have to go this far down before you even get to 2025 first round pick Marek Houston who just earned a promotion to High-A Cedar Rapids. Dasan Hill has shown up on top 100 lists as well, and Gabriel Gonzalez was a top 100 prospect when acquired for Jorge Polanco prior to last season.

MN Twins Nearly Land Top Spot in Prospect Rankings https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-twins/mlb-pipeline-farm-system-rankings-second/ Wed, 13 Aug 2025 21:24:26 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=66555 When you trade nearly half of your big league roster there should be an expectation that an influx of prospect talent would be the return. Combine that with July’s Major League Baseball amateur draft, and the Minnesota Twins have a ton of new talent throughout the farm system.

With the dust having settled from both events now, MLB Pipeline went to work with a rerank of their top 100 prospects. That also included shuffling among each team’s top 30. The final step was to order each organization by overall farm talent as well.

Although Walker Jenkins is the top Twins prospect at 14th overall, the health of the system may never have been better.

MLB Pipeline puts Minnesota Twins system second

The Twins acquired the second best prospect traded at the deadline in Eduardo Tait. The young catcher coming over, with Mick Abel from the Phillies, definitely was a boost to the system. MLB Pipeline believes the group is now so good, they trail only the Los Angeles Dodgers across the league.

While Jenkins, Keaschall and Rodriguez have all had health issues, the Twins added a ton of talent at the Trade Deadline. Those deals brought in 10 prospects, six of whom are on the new Top 30. That group is led by Tait in the Top 100, coming over in the Jhoan Duran deal. Add in the five 2025 draftees now on their list, the Twins boast a nice combination of top-level talent (five Top 100 guys) and depth.

MLB Pipeline

The MLB Pipeline team of Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo, and Sam Dykstra had the Minnesota Twins system ranked 10th coming into the year. They now have five top 100 prospects, although Luke Keaschall will graduate by the end of the season.

The second ranking matches where MLB Pipepline put the Twins prior to the 2024 season. Of course they dropped after Brooks Lee was promoted, and players like Gabriel Gonzalez and Emmanuel Rodriguez saw their luster fade a bit.

Now the Twins have two legitimate stars locking in on Triple-A St. Paul, and it shouldn’t be long before one or both of Kaelen Culpepper and Walker Jenkins are promoted. They represent the next wave of position talent, along with Rodriguez, and that trio could help the big league roster as soon as next year.

Although the addition of Tait was nice to see, a strong farm system is as much about depth as it is top talent. Plenty of new acquisitions littered the Twins organizational top 30, and there are names absent that can be notable players as well.

Next wave brings refresh for MN Twins

It’s a positive that the Twins current farm system is viewed so favorably. Derek Falvey will now need to hope the staff and infrastructure he put in place can maximize the talent. Departures by key players like Carlos Correa, Jhoan Duran, and Griffin Jax means that Rocco Baldelli needs the next group to step up.

Minnesota is not in a horrible spot for next season, and the way in which they reload could be accelerated by additional spending on the free agent front. Rather than continue trotting out the same guys though, this new group of prospects will want to separate and make names for themselves.

If the Twins are going to return to competitiveness in 2026 and beyond, it will be because many of the names from this group have begun to realize their potential.

Young Minnesota Twins Prospect Climbs into Baseball America Top 100 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-twins/prospect-news-baseball-america-top-100-dasan-hill/ Sat, 10 May 2025 17:37:09 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=63074 The now 19-20 Minnesota Twins have been ripping off wins of late. We’ll see if they can continue their climb up the AL Central rankings during the final two games of their home series vs the San Francisco Giants.

In the meantime, there’s some news down on the farm. Minnesota’s prospect pool had a solid showing on Baseball America’s top 100 list earlier this year, when the preseason 2025 rankings were first released.

Top Twins prospects like Walker Jenkins and Emmanuel Rodriguez have become mainstays on all accredited prospect lists. Both Luke Keaschall and Zebby Matthews can usually be found on most of them, as well.

Dasan Hill becomes next MN Twins top prospect

But as of this week, left-handed starting pitcher Dasan Hill joined the group of elite prospects in the Minnesota Twins organization when he made his debut at No. 85 on the Baseball America Top 100 list.

The Twins selected Hill in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft. The high school lefty out of Texas is just 19 years old and, playing his first full season of pro ball this year, down at Low-A Fort Myers.

Through his first four professional starts Hill owns a 1.50 ERA. It’s just a 12 inning sample size, but Hill has started off his Twins minor league career with an incredibly impressive 21/5 K/BB ratio.

Hill isn’t some soft-tossing southpaw either. The flame-throwing teenager totes a mid-90’s fastball that has a realistic chance to reach triple digits, as he grows into his body.

His draft profile at Baseball America spoke glowingly of his high-end abilities, despite being young and relatively raw.

“He’s the Lone Star State’s best prep southpaw prospect since Kyle Muller, who signed for $2.5 million as a Braves second-rounder in 2016. After parking around 89-90 mph and topping out at 93 with his fastball last summer, Hill has grown 3 inches, added 15 pounds and started dealing in the low 90s while reaching 96. His best pitch is a high-spin slider in the low 80s that he backfoots well against right-handers. He also has a solid upper-70s curveball with more depth and a low-80s changeup with sink and similar promise. Hill not only possesses four viable offerings but he also has the ability to throw them all for strikes. He still has room to add plenty of muscle to his lanky frame, so his repertoire could continue to get stronger.”

MLB

Given his age, it’s fair to assume Hill is at least two years away from the big leagues. That timeline is probably aggressive in and of itself. It is worthwhile to compare him to 2023 first round pick, and fellow 19-year-old, Charlee Soto though.

Soto made his professional debut last year and turned in a 5.23 ERA in 74 innings. His 87 strikeouts were impressive though, and like Hill, the Florida native has triple-digit heat. Soto has struggled with was command issues (33 walks), early in his pro career, which isn’t uncommon.

Soto is at High-A Cedar Rapids this season and turned in three solid outings, before going on the injured list. His 1.38 ERA across 13 innings is good to see. The 15/4 K/BB isn’t quite where Hill has been at though.

The Minnesota Twins, and many teams, don’t typically push young arms. That said, if Hill keeps this up, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him get time with Cedar Rapids by the end of the year.

Twins pitching pipeline paying dividends

Since he was hired the hope was that Derek Falvey could recreate the pitching pipeline that Cleveland became synonymous for. Minnesota Twins fans have waited patiently for that to come to fruition and it seems as though we’ve reached that point.

Despite David Festa, Zebby Matthews, and Andrew Morries all looking ready at Triple-A, the Minnesota rotation simply doesn’t have room. Pablo Lopez looks like a Cy Young candidate and Joe Ryan isn’t far behind. Bailey Ober has a 1.98 ERA across 41 innings since making a start while sick to begin the season.

The soft spot of the rotation was supposed to be both Simeon Woods Richardson and Chris Paddack. The former has a 4.01 ERA and has treaded water. The latter took a perfect game into the sixth inning during his last start and owns a 2.51 ERA across his last 32 1/3 innings.

Minnesota’s rotation has the fifth-highest fWAR in baseball. Their 3.34 ERA is also fifth-best. More talent coming through the pipeline will help to sustain that excellence for years to come.

MN Wild Top Pick Just Misses No. 1 Spot in NHL Prospect Rankings https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-wild/minnesota-wild-news/zeev-buium-prospect-rankings-top/ Tue, 11 Feb 2025 18:16:13 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=60223 This season, the 33-19-4 Minnesota Wild have mostly handled their business despite dealing with multiple significant injuries. For the next month or two, they will try and keep the ship afloat without superstar Kirill Kaprizov, while he recovers from surgery. But what about the future? Who is the next big prospect to watch for?

Successfully drafting and developing talent is probably the most important part of operating a professional sports franchise. That includes hockey. As the Minnesota Wild move into an era where they will no longer be cap strapped by bad contracts, raising their young prospects becomes that much more important.

Minnesota Wild top prospect near best in NHL

In recent years, when the Minnesota Wild looked towards what is now the present, guys like (G) Jesper Wallstedt and (D) Brock Faber drew most of the hype. Fast forward and those two prospects have developed quite differently. In 2024, though, it’s last offseason’s No. 12 overall pick, Zeev Buium (University of Denver) who is the new prospect darling in St. Paul.

Although The Athletic’s latest top 100 rankings have Montreal Canadiens winger Ivan Demidov in a tier of his own, Buium follows immediately behind as the No. 2 overall prospect in all of hockey.

“Buium put together one of the best seasons by a teenage defenseman in modern college hockey history last year, has been a big part of two gold medal-winning World Junior teams and is having another excellent sophomore season that has continued to solidify his status as one of the top D prospects in the NHL.

He’s a plus-level skater and handler who plays an extremely involved game in all three zones, whether that’s activating into the rush or off the point, shaking pressure on exits or across/off the blue line (which he does extraordinarily well, making opposing players miss), working in and out of give-and-gos, or playing tight gaps against the rush. He’s a very busy player on both sides of the puck and he gets in and out of his transitions and footwork so quickly that he can play that style.”

Scott Wheeler on Zeev Buium (The Athletic)

How excited should we be about Zeev Buium?

Wheeler went on to describe Buium as a first-pairing defenseman which should be obvious, being how high he is rated on his list. But really, it’s the “real chance at stardom” comment that should have Minnesota Wild fans excited for Buium’s arrival, which could come as soon as this season, depending on how well his Denver Pioneers finish the NCAA hockey season.

With Jonas Brodin, Jared Spurgeon and Brock Faber already on roster — plus the newly acquired David Jiricek also factoring into future top pairings — Buium should give head coach John Hynes one of the best blue line groups in the entire NHL the next few seasons.

For Denver this season Buium has six goals and 26 assists. His 32 points already clear the 25 he posted last season and he has done so on less shots (52 compared to 53.) Buium continues to be among the best things going in college hockey right now, and it wouldn’t be a shock to watch him seamlessly step in for the Wild.

Minnesota’s roster construction next year will be interesting. There is the looming payday for Kaprizov, but also a significant windfall of cap space to utilize. Goaltending will be something of a focus as Marc-Andre Fleury moves on to retirement as well.

No matter how general manager Bill Geurin goes about constructing his roster, Buium’s presence when he reaches it will be a welcomed one. The Ryan Suter buyout goes away, and wild fans could soon have the next defensive star to take over.

A few of them came out of nowhere, others carry top prospect expectations, within the organization.

With the MLB offseason well underway, new team president Derek Falvey has turned his focus to 2025. The expectation is that Minnesota, who has no money to spend in free agency, will be active on the trade market and, yet again, rely on graduating top prospects, in order to improve on a disappointing 2024.

Minnesota Twins Top Prospects – 2025

But who are the top Minnesota Twins prospects, as we get ready to turn the calendar to 2025? Which have the most talent, and who is closest to their MLB call up? I am here to answer those questions. Below are my Top 15 Minnesota Twins prospects.

15.) Billy Amick | 3B/1B | 22 y/o

Minnesota drafted Amick out of Tennessee in the 2nd round of the most recent MLB Draft. He put up big power numbers during his last season in Knoxville including 23 home runs. There isn’t much to glean from 18 professional games, but he did play at Low-A Fort Myers.

If there was something extremely promising during his first foray into pro ball, it’s that Amick showed a strong sense of plate discipline. His 15/12 K/BB suggests he can handle the first level, and a push to Cedar Rapids next season makes sense.

14.) Kala’i Rosario | OF | 22 y/o

A former fifth round pick in 2020, Rosario is eligible as a Rule 5 Draft pick this winter. It’s possible he’s no longer in the Twins organization by the end of the week. Injuries kept Rosario to just 69 games last year and his .726 OPS was a step backwards from the .832 mark he posted for Cedar Rapids in 2022.

The corner outfielder did return to the Arizona Fall League and he performed well there. In 21 games Rosario hit three home runs and drove in 16. He has some swing and miss in his profile, but the power is legit. There’s a chance a big league organization could stash him as their 26th man.

13.) Brandon Winokur | SS/3B/CF | 19 y/o

The positional flexibility for Winokur highlights just how tools’d out he is. This is a five-tool talent that needs refinement across the board. He played primarily shortstop for Fort Myers but committed 14 errors in 61 games. The .761 OPS is solid for a league typically tough on hitters.

Winokur wound up with 14 homers and 23 stolen bases during his first full professional season. He’ll need to dial in discipline and work on contact. There’s a lot to like here though, and the 2023 third round pick is a name to watch in 2025.

12.) Dasan Hill | LHP | 18 y/o

Minnesota grabbed the prep arm from Texas with the 69th overall pick in last year’s draft. He didn’t pitch in pro ball the rest of the way, but it’s clear to see what they liked. He has touched 96 mph and just went through a significant growth spurt.

The Twins are working off projections here, and they have a belief that Hill can be developed into a power starting arm from the left side. He throws four pitches, all for strikes. There is going to be a building process at the professional level, but it’s hard not to like what there is to work with.

11.) C.J. Culpepper | RHP | 23 y/o

Culpepper can wind up being another late-round selection that winds up making a difference for Minnesota. The 13th round pick played collegiately for California Baptist and made it to Double-A Wichita last season. He has improved each time repeating a level and that can be expected for 2025.

His 2.89 ERA in 37 1/3 innings for Cedar Rapids ballooned to a 4.71 ERA in 21 innings for Wichita. He threw just 58 1/3 innings in 2024 as he dealt with different maladies. If the health can take a tick for the better next season, then he’ll start at Double-A with an eye on Minnesota by season’s end.

10.) Kyle DeBarge | INF | 21 y/o

DeBarge was the Twins pick at 33rd overall in last year’s draft. That was compensation for losing Sonny Gray in free agency. After a summer on The Cape, DeBarge starred for Louisiana-Lafayette posting a 1.117 OPS in his final year.

In 26 games for Fort Myers to start his career, DeBarge slashed .235/.322/.343. He hit 21 homers in his final collegiate season, but just one so far professional. It may take a bit of time for the swing to translate with wood, but there’s a really good talent here.

9.) Gabriel Gonzalez | OF | 20 y/o

When the Twins made that ill-fated Jorge Polanco trade last offseason, it was largely done out of necessity. Justin Topa is back to make things work at the big league level, but the rest sits on the shoulders of Gonzalez. He isn’t the top-100 prospect that came over in the deal, but there’s still a high ceiling for him.

Injury kept Gonzalez to just 81 games in 2024, but 76 of them came for High-A Cedar Rapids. He posted just a .706 OPS and the biggest change was a dip from 18 home runs in 2023 to just five in 2024. If the power swing returns and he can remain on the field, his stock will be on the rise again.

8.) Charlee Soto | RHP | 19 y/o

A first round pick in 2023, Soto made his professional debut last season. He pitched in the new Spring Breakout Game and then worked for Fort Myers all season. At just 18 years old this season he is still incredibly raw. The ability to push triple digits is beyond exciting, however.

Soto threw 74 innings across 21 games (20 starts). His 5.23 ERA was largely a result of a 4.0 BB/9. Across his final eight outings though, Soto turned a corner and posted a 3.67 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings. He still has to work on pitchability and command, but the stuff is all there.

7.) Andrew Morris | RHP | 23 y/o

A fourth round pick out of Texas Tech in 2022, Morris took a sizable step forward in 2024. His 2.88 ERA was impressive during his first full professional season, but that came at Single-A levels. Last year Morris finished with seven starts at Triple-A St. Paul.

The right-hander owned a 2.37 ERA across 133 innings and posted a career-best 9.0 K/9. He has shown a consistent level of durability and is a reliable arm. He strikes batters out and doesn’t give up free passes. The ceiling isn’t an ace, but he’s better than a fourth or fifth starter too.

6.) Cory Lewis | RHP | 24 y/o

Arguably the most interesting pitcher in the Twins system, Lewis was a 9th round pick in 2022. He throws a knuckleball, but is definitely not a soft-tossing gadget pitcher. The fastball is a legitimate out pitch and he knows how to force batters into tough spots.

After throwing 101 1/3 innings during his debut season, Lewis got in just 79 innings after a spring training setback. He still posted a 2.51 ERA, much of which was derived from 15 games at Double-A. He finished the year with a five inning start for the Saints and could make his major league debut in 2025.

5.) Marco Raya | RHP | 22 y/o

There was debate as to whether it was David Festa or Raya claiming the Twins best pitching prospect entering 2024. Raya scuffled at Double-A and was handled with kid gloves for multiple short starts. The ceiling is still high though, and he could push back to the look of a top-100 prospect.

24 starts for Wichita translated to 92 2/3 innings. He owned a 4.27 ERA with a 9.6 K/9. Walks were an issue and ultimately command could push him to the bullpen. Raya ended the year with a start for the Saints. If Minnesota wants to keep using Raya as a starter, his development time for St. Paul could be longer.

4.) Kaelen Culpepper | SS | 21 y/o

A first round selection at 21st overall in 2024, Culpepper has the looks of a player that should stick on the dirt. The Kansas State product came out of the gates hot, and his .297/.366/.541 slash line for Fort Myers earned him a promotion to High-A Cedar Rapids.

In 17 games with the Kernels, Culpepper owned just a .616 OPS. He’ll get much more time to acclimate with a full spring training, and he should be counted on for a nice season in 2025. How the power and offensive profile develops remains to be seen. His glove and arm are legit, but they may play better at the hot corner.

3.) Luke Keaschall | 2B | 22 y/o

There are few players across minor league baseball that had better seasons than Keaschall did. What’s crazy is that he did so while dealing with a UCL injury. The former second round pick played in the Futures Game, and he could very likely play for Minnesota this season.

Across two levels Keaschall slashed .303/.420/.483 with 15 home runs. He stole 23 bases and has that power/speed profile that is beyond coveted in the infield. The surgery should be healed for spring training, and starting at St. Paul with a quick eye on the big leagues seems logical.

Related: Do-It-All Minnesota Twins Prospect Pegged as Possible 2025 ROY Candidate

2.) Emmanuel Rodriguez | OF | 21 y/o

When Emmanuel Rodriguez has been on the field, he’s been among the best prospects in the game. Injuries limited him to just 47 games in 2024, but the 21-year-old did plenty with them. He slashed .280/.459/.567 with nine home runs. He is an absolute menace in the box.

There are times that Rodriguez’s strikeouts can mount as he attempts to be choosy at the plate. He may need to attack a bit earlier in counts as he reaches the big leagues. Rodriguez will play for St. Paul, but is a candidate to replace Max Kepler in Rocco Baldelli’s lineup. The projection of an All-Star here is very realistic.

1.) Walker Jenkins | OF | 19 y/o

Right now Walker Jenkins is among the top five prospects in all of baseball. It’s possible that he winds up being the sport’s best prospect by the time he reaches Minnesota. The fifth overall pick was part of an amazing 2023 group at the top.

He finished 2024 playing six games for the Wichita Wind Surge. On the year, as just a 19-year-old, Jenkins posted a .282/.394/.439 slash line. He hit six homers, had another four triples, and stole successfully on 17-of-20 attempts. He is a plus defender in centerfield and is a clubhouse asset as well.

If the Twins are dreaming on their next superstar, than Jenkins is absolutely that player. It’s unlikely he plays in the big leagues this season, but 2026 should be the timeline. Another year tearing up the farm system should be a blast to watch.
