This is the first time since 2016 that the Vikings have kicked off a season 4-0. It’s now very clear it’s not just by chance. They’ve been commanding in every game so far, proving themselves as a force to be reckoned with.

According to Pro Football Focus, and to no surprise a this point, the Vikings are ranked as one of the best teams in the league, and this week’s PFF grades are both eye-catching and intriguing.

Best/Worst Minnesota Vikings in week 4

This week’s PFF grades for the Vikings are pretty surprising. After being up by 28 points, nearly blowing the lead, and only winning by two, there were definitely some shaky moments. However, the biggest shock is that QB Sam Darnold received the lowest grade of any Vikings offensive player who took the field on Sunday.

Here’s a breakdown of the standout performers and those who struggled the most for the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4.

Linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill topped the list for the Minnesota Vikings this week as the highest-graded player, with wide receiver Justin Jefferson close behind. Grugier-Hill’s standout moment came with a crucial interception that likely boosted his grade. Meanwhile, Jefferson delivered as usual, hauling in six catches for 85 yards and a touchdown.

Sure, it’s surprising to see Sam Darnold on this list. Perhaps even more so is Andrew Van Ginkel, who has started the year strong. Equally unexpected is Pat Jones, who ranks in the top 5 in the league for sacks. Jones even recorded one on Sunday despite receiving the third-lowest grade overall.

Sam Darnold had a strong performance, throwing for 275 yards and three touchdowns. Although he did have one interception, it didn’t overshadow his impact on the game. He really took control in the first half, delivering some impressive passes that helped the Vikings secure the win.

However, apparently PFF didn’t think he did so hot, which raises questions about how his performance is evaluated despite the favorable stats.

The rough second half likely contributed to some of these lower grades, but at the end of the day, the team is surely happy to walk away with the win and remain undefeated at 4-0. There’s always next week for a shot at better PFF grades

Best/Worst Minnesota Vikings in Week 3, per PFF https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/minnesota-vikings-games/best-worst-pff-grades-week-3/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 15:46:43 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=55317 The Minnesota Vikings are off to a 3-0 start after crushing CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans 31-7 in Week 2. This marks the first time the Vikings have started 3-0 since 2016, and it’s not just luck getting them there. They’ve dominated every team they’ve faced so far.

Also, according to PFF, the Minnesota Vikings are the real deal, consistently ranking among the league’s best week after week. Here’s a look at their top performers and struggles from Week 3.

Minnesota Vikings PFF grades after week 3

There’s a Monday Night Football doubleheader tonight, but as of Monday morning, the Minnesota Vikings are sitting as the 4th best team on Pro Football Focus. PFF has given them an overall grade of 82.7, just behind the Steelers, Saints, and Seahawks.

The Minnesota Vikings are currently ranked in the top 10 across every category, which is honestly hard to believe. All offseason, the talk was about how they weren’t expected to be anything special. Now, they’re proving to be one of the league’s best teams.

The Vikings have had some standout performances from individual players this season. Here are the top performers from Week 3 for Minnesota.

Interestingly, four of the top five grades went to offensive players, with Jonathan Greenard being the only defensive standout. Greenard had a dominant performance on Sunday, racking up three sacks against his former team, bringing his season total to four and making a huge impact on the defensive line.

Some notable players who didn’t have their best performances on Sunday were Brian O’Neill, Garrett Bradbury, Byron Murphy Jr., Harrison Phillips, and Pat Jones.

Grade
Brian O’Neill 60.8
Garret Bradbury 61.7
Byron Murphy Jr32.6
Harrison Phillips 50.5
Pat Jones 50.9

Byron Murphy Jr.’s grade of 32.6 really catches your eye, especially considering the defense only allowed the Texans to score 7 points. But honestly, I doubt the players are too concerned about their individual grades—they’re likely more focused on winning, and so far, they’ve done just that.

The Minnesota Vikings have surprised a lot of NFL fans this season. With a 3-0 record and ranking among the league’s top teams, they’re looking like real contenders. PFF also seems to mainly agree with that assessment after the first three weeks.
