No, not at his basketball job. Now a Milwaukee Buck, Bev’s day job duties as an NBA basketball player start back up today, just like yours. Instead, Pat used his wildly successful podcast, The Pat Bev Pod, to break some news regarding a former teammate and one of his former teams.

Pat Bev: Marcus Morris “leaning towards” Timberwolves

According to the Pat Bev Pod Twitter account at 12:07 Monday morning, Marcus Morris — who was just bought out by the Philadelphia 76ers — is “leaning towards signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves”. Morris and Beverley have played together with multiple NBA teams, including this season with the Sixers.

Morris started all 119 of the games he played for the Los Angeles Clippers during each of the past two seasons. 2021-22 was one of the best in his career, averaging 15.2 points per game, on 12.8 shots (2nd highest attempts average in his career), to go along with 4.4 rebounds.

Marcus Morris’ tough 2023-24 season

But his usage dropped significantly last season, even while still a starter in LA. His shots dropped to under 10 per game, and his points went with it (11.2 PPG). In the offseason, Morris signed with the 76ers, to come off the bench, a role he hasn’t played since 2020-21.

About 1/3 of Marcus Morris’ career has been as a bench player and he has often thrived in that role. Back in 2020-21 in LA, Morris started only 29 of the 54 games he played. But he still averaged over 26 minutes per game and, when on the floor, he was a problem, shooting 47% from 3PT land, with a .592 true shooting percentage.

Related: Wolves Players Love Chris Finch and His Up-Front, Blunt Coaching Style

That wasn’t the case in Philly, where he was getting just 17.2 minutes per game, the lowest since his rookie season back in 2011-2012 with the Houston Rockets. He was just 22 years old. Now, he’s 34.

If Marcus Morris does indeed sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves, what guy are they getting? With Monte Morris (unrelated) already on roster, where is Marcus Morris going to find minutes on one of the most talented and deepest rosters in the NBA?

If you trust Patrick Beverley, it appears we are about to find out. But with all the buyout names that were floating around Tim Connelly and the Wolves, this feels like a rather underwhelming get. Hopefully, I’m wrong.

Patrick Beverley Calls Out Karl-Anthony Towns for Not Having Rudy Gobert’s Back https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/patrick-beverley-calls-out-karl-anthony-towns/ Wed, 15 Nov 2023 23:38:00 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=45026 In a thrilling victory against the Golden State Warriors, the Minnesota Timberwolves not only secured a critical win but also found themselves soaring to an impressive 8-2 record, elevating them to the #2 seed in a competitive Western Conference.

However, amidst the positives, a heated on-court altercation has sparked a debate among Timberwolves faithful regarding player roles and team loyalty. The game against the Warriors witnessed a fiery exchange in the initial minutes, escalating into a chaotic scuffle between players.

Related: Draymond Green Talked Trash to the Wrong Dude in Anthony Edwards

The altercation, involving Klay Thompson, Jaden McDaniels, Rudy Gobert, and Draymond Green, led to ejections and intensified emotions on the court. In the locker room after the game, Rudy called Draymond’s sleeperhold “clown behavior” and accused him of getting ejected on purpose.

Patrick Beverley calls out Karl-Anthony Towns

Former Timberwolves point guard Patrick Beverley, known for his passionate demeanor, went on his podcast, the Pat Bev Pod and expressed disappointment in his one-time teammate Karl-Anthony Towns.

Bev thinks KAT should have done more to get Green off of Gobert, who found himself in a Draymond Green chokehold during the commotion. Beverley feels that he taught Towns better than that during his time in Minnesota.

While Patrick Beverley may have a small point, I lean toward the positive side of KAT’s reaction… or lack there of. He understands that he is an important part of the team and showcased a composed and mature response. Despite the chaos that unfolded, Towns remained focused on the goal. Winning. And that is an example of great leadership in my book.

Minnesota Timberwolves needed KAT on the court vs Warriors

His performance of 33 points and 11 rebounds, including a crucial late-game three-pointer, solidified the team’s triumph and showcased his dedication to winning this season. The differing perspectives between Beverley and Towns reflected a broader debate within the Timberwolves’ fanbase on social media—one that delves into the evolving nature of player roles and the balance between loyalty and professionalism on the court.

For passionate Timberwolves fans, the team’s meteoric rise to the second spot in the Western Conference is a cause for celebration and optimism. With an impressive 8-2 record, the team has demonstrated resilience, unity, and the ability to compete at a high level.

The victory over the Warriors, coupled with Towns’ standout performance, highlights the team’s potential for success this season. It signifies a shift in the Timberwolves’ approach, focusing on strategic gameplay and unity rather than engaging in unnecessary confrontations that could risk player ejections and suspensions. Something you love to see as a Timberwolves fan.

As the team continues its journey this NBA season, I am sure there will be no shortage of jokes and comments made about KAT’s response to his teammate being choked out. But at the end of the day, Patrick Beverley isn’t in the Timberwolves locker room anymore. The only people he has to answer to are his teammates.

At the end of the day, this emotional win over the Warriors not only solidified their position in the standings but also prompted a lot of social media, podcast, and media material. It will hopefully be a funny part of a successful Timberwolves season.

Patrick Beverley Believes Anthony Edwards’ Star Will Get Too Big For Minnesota https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/patrick-beverley-anthony-edwards-too-big-for-minnesota/ Fri, 01 Sep 2023 00:20:56 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=43223 Patrick Beverley played one season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, before being dealt last offseason as part of the Rudy Gobert trade. While his time in the Land of 10,000 Lakes was short, his constant motor, on-court antics and ability to hold teammates accountable made him very popular among Wolves fans.

Patrick Beverley says Minnesota can’t contain Anthony Edwards

But that changed for this fan on Thursday, when I saw a clip of Pat Bev on Gilbert Arenas’ podcast “Gil’s Arena“. For whatever reason, Beverley believes rising superstar — and Team USA alpha — Anthony Edwards, will eventually become too big for Minnesota.

Brandon Jennings: “Does he need to get out of Minnesota?”

Beverly: “He will get out of Minnesota. That’s just what happens… and that’s no disrespect to Minnesota. It’s just, you feel me? With that personality, he can change the world with basketball.”

Gil’s Arena Podcast

Pat Bev goes on to name a couple big market teams, like LA and New York as plausible landing spots. He says Edwards is a must-see star that basketball fans in larger markets salivate over and that “there’s no way Minnesota should have 9 or 10 [nationally televised] games.

“It’s no dis on Minnesota, it’s no dis on little market teams. But he is the type of player that you need to see. You need to see him. And there’s no way Minnesota has 9 or 10 [nationally televised] games.

Patrick Beverley – Gil’s Arena podcast

When asked if Ant has that Michael Jordan “it factor”, Bev said, “he has everything.”

Calm down, Bev…

There’s one thing I agree with, in Beverley’s assessment. Anthony Edwards is going to be one of the biggest superstars in the NBA and he will prove that over the next few years. But Pat is living in the past, when it comes to what markets can hold the biggest talents in the game.

Giannis Antetokounmpo plays in Milwaukee, Steph Curry plays for Oakland and LeBron James won a title in Cleveland. What matters is winning. If the Minnesota Timberwolves win games and make deep playoff runs, while Ant grows into the superstar he’s destined to be, I’m absolutely confident he will stay.

It’s up to those leading the Wolves franchise to make sure he has the talent around him to make that happen.

Karl-Anthony Towns Gets Cryptic Over Trade Rumors https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/karl-anthony-towns-cryptic-trade-rumors/ Wed, 14 Jun 2023 18:20:40 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=42872 Trade rumors and reports surrounding Karl-Anthony Towns have been falling out of the NBA sky since the moment the Minnesota Timberwolves season ended. How real are these whispers? That depends on which insider you ask.

Cryptic Karl talks about his future in Minnesota…

Patrick Beverley’s podcast co-host, Rone, on the Pat Bev Podcast (Barstool Sports), asked Karl how he feels about his future with the squad. To my surprise, Towns’ response was incredibly cryptic and throws a 5-gallon bucket of gas on an already burning pile of KAT trade rumors.

I’d be very interested in knowing what the Timberwolves front office has told Karl-Anthony Towns, regarding all of these trade reports and rumors. Because his answer, when asked about the future, sounds like a player who isn’t sure how his organization feels or whether or not he is part of the long-term plan.

Does that mean Towns will be moved for sure? Of course not. But, there’s no doubt about it now. The KAT trade rumors are worth paying attention to. Karl isn’t in the know on what could eventually happen and clearly doesn’t have any guarantees from Wolves’ brass, regarding his future.

Listen to the full episode

Karl seemed as if he wanted to vent a little bit more, about what could eventually happen to him this offseason, but Pat Bev was more interested in catching up with an old friend while reminiscing about the time they spent together in Minnesota.

That’s what most of the episode is about. Beverley’s affinity for Towns is obvious and KAT loves Pat right back. Bev believes Karl is one of the most talented and best big men he has ever seen play or played with and sees him as a genuinely good dude.

Stay tuned, this could be a surprisingly busy summer all of a sudden…

Patrick Beverley Mad at How Much Wolves’ Locker Room Culture Has Deteriorated https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/patrick-beverley-mad-at-timberwolves-culture/ Wed, 12 Apr 2023 19:46:55 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=42323 The Minnesota Timberwolves played a really good three quarters in their first play-in game vs the Lakers on Tuesday night. But cold 4th quarter/OT shooting and multiple absences/injuries caught up with them in the end and they lost 108-102.

Timberwolves drama boiling over lately

Now, the Wolves have to win Friday in order to make the final 8-team Western Conference playoff field and extend their season. Who knows if they will get it done. The only thing we know for sure about the 2022-23 Wolves is that anything can happen.

Win or lose, this team will be remembered as an underachieving locker room mess. Rudy Gobert punched Kyle Anderson because he was saying really terrible things about him. Jaden McDaniels is punching walls. The locker room appears to be a complete mess.

Patrick Beverley mad about Timberwolves culture deterioration

And nobody is more mad about the Wolves culture deterioration than former Timberwolf, Patrick Beverley, who used a dorm room analogy to describe how everything inside the locker room has crumbled since he was traded away.

“You do something special in your dorm. You might have the sickest study groups, you might have the sickest parties. You might have the sickest gaming nights. You know what I’m saying? Your dorm room is special. You kept it nice, you kept it clean. Even if it was fucked up before you got it. You got it, you took that thing, you polished it, you made it clean.

You made it ok for people to go to. Because people weren’t going to no damn Minnesota. You made it ok, you actually made it lit. And to come do that… fuck up my dorm like that? Man, it ain’t right. I don’t deserve that. The fans don’t deserve that.”

Patrick Beverley (Pat Bev Podcast)
Who is Patrick Beverley mad at?

Bev goes on to say that nobody associated with the franchise deserves what has happened since he left. What remains unclear is who Patrick Beverley blames for the locker room downfall. He seems to feel bad for everyone and mad at someone. But who? It’s hard to tell.

“Again, the dorm was good. I come back to the dorm and the dorm is fucked up. Obviously [they are] dealing with injuries but [the dorm] ain’t the way I had it. It ain’t the way I left it. And that’s unfortunate.”

Patrick Beverley (Pat Bev Podcast)
Bev lived in a different Wolves 2021-22 dorm room than what I remember…

Bev has some good points and, obviously, this wouldn’t be a talker if the Minnesota Timberwolves locker room and culture was in good shape. He was the glue that held the roster together last season.

Still, he had gotten on the last nerves of multiple people within the Wolves organization by the time he left. The dorm room he looked after last season was far messier and less in-tact than he remembers.

Timberwolves Trade for Rudy Gobert https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/rudy-gobert-traded-to-minnesota-timberwolves/ Fri, 01 Jul 2022 19:53:10 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=39568 All of the rumors and offseason buffering was fun, but nobody believed it would actually happen. Then on Friday afternoon, it did. When Rudy Gobert was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

To get the deal done, the Wolves sent Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, (1st rnd pick) Walker Kessler, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Balmero and FOUR future 1st round draft picks (’23, ’25, ’27, ’29) back to Utah. All of those picks, other than 2029, is unprotected. Even in 2029, the protection is only top-5. Expectations for the 2022 Timberwolves just went through the roof.

The Wolves just gave up a bunch of role players and FIVE 1st round picks to bring this Rudy Gobert deal to fruition. One would think you could have gotten just about anybody in the league for that price. What’s also clear with this move, is that the Minnesota Timberwolves organization is zigging, while the rest of the league is zagging.

Wolves Zigs, While Others Zag

With this move, Minnesota has chosen to go BIG while much of the NBA is going small. Another question that immediately comes to mind, is whether or not new owners Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore had any sway on this blockbuster. They’ve been begging the Wolves’ front office to make a splash for over a year.

Reminder, Chris Finch spoke with media the other day and mentioned three players, Jaden McDaniels, Jalen Nowell and (more obviously) Anthony Edwards, who he felt were very important to the future of the Timberwolves. We knew Ant wasn’t going to be dealt, but neither of the other two were included in this trade either.

Patrick Beverley Slandered Chris Paul All Over ESPN Monday Morning https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/patrick-beverley-slandered-chris-paul-all-over-espn-monday-morning/ Mon, 16 May 2022 16:03:37 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=39032 The Phoenix Suns were absolutely destroyed in game 7 of their second round playoff matchup vs the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night. By halftime, the score was 57-27 and the game was over. When the whistle blew on the 3rd quarter, the lead had ballooned to 42 points (92-50).

Anthony Edwards, in a story he’d later delete, used Instagram to laugh at the Suns while it was happening. Clearly, he took exception to the Suns’ trash talk during the season. We found out, via Patrick Beverley on Monday morning, why Ant felt so comfortable posting on the subject. The league isn’t afraid of the Phoenix Suns.

History Meets Present

Patrick Beverley and Chris Paul have a long playoff history against each other. Hatred between the two is well-known and well-documented. It might be the biggest and best personal rivalry between any two individual players in the NBA right now.

So when Bev got an opportunity to join ESPN for two different shows (Get Up, First Take) Monday morning, immediately following Chris Paul’s demise, we knew the savagery would be first class. How bad was CP3, in reality? Pretty bad.

The Mavs went at him when they had the ball on offense and used that to wear down the 37-year-old veteran. Paul averaged 9.4 points per game over the final 5 games vs Dallas. On defense, Dallas switched and played the high wall vs pick and roll on both Devin Booker and Chris Paul. Nobody else could make them pay for that extra attention. Paul couldn’t get to his favorite elbow spot and his body broke down. All of that culminated into a heavy decline in offensive aggressiveness and production out of Chris Paul, by series end.

Bev said the Suns were “scared” going into last night because they knew they couldn’t hang with Luka Doncic. He went on to call CP3 a “cone” on defense and said the Suns should have benched the future hall of famer in game 7.

Wolves Want all the Smoke

I’m not sure how to feel about all of the shit Patrick Beverley talked on ‘The Worldwide Leader in Sports’ Monday morning. I appreciate his fearlessness and I’m happy Anthony Edwards is feeling confident, as well.

But the Minnesota in me can’t help but cringe. And one thing is for sure, Patrick Beverley is making enemies for the Wolves come next season. Remember, the Minnesota Timberwolves didn’t have a resume, entering this season.

Yes, they finally made the playoff field as a 7-seed in 2022. But after a play-in game to get there, Bev, Ant and their teammates exited after 6 games in the first round, celebrating themselves on the way out. The Phoenix Suns went to the NBA Finals in 2021, then won 64 games and went into the playoffs as the #1 seed in 2022.

We all know about Bev’s personal agenda vs Chris Paul but his smack talk from this morning will reach far beyond their relationship. Hopefully, KAT and gang are ready for all the smoke Patrick Beverley and Anthony Edwards cooked up between Sunday night and Monday morning. Because Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell folded down the stretch of round 1, much like Pat is accusing the Suns of doing in round 2.

Bud Light Offers Patrick Beverley His Own Personalized ‘Bev Light’ Cans https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/bud-light-offers-patrick-beverley-his-own-personalized-bev-light-cans/ Fri, 15 Apr 2022 00:04:33 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=38743 Patrick Beverley helped the Minnesota Timberwolves clinch a playoff spot on Tuesday night, via 109-104 play-in game victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. Afterward, Bev climbed up on tables, yelled at the crowd, hugged his mom, shed a bunch of tears and rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

Then, he sat down with media, cracked a Bud Light tall boy and opened a vein. He was emotional, talking about how great Anthony Edwards is going to be, how much he loves his situation in Minnesota, and even went live on Instagram for a little bit. But none of that got him fined $30,000 by the NBA. What did, was when he went into the disrespect he felt when jettisoned by the Clippers last offseason, before eventually landing with the Timberwolves.

Bud Light Shoots Its Shot w/Pat Bev

On Thursday evening, Bud Light jumped on a perfect marketing opportunity, tweeting an offer that Patrick Beverley is unlikely to refuse. They want to create and send specialty ‘Bev Light’ – “Take They Ass Home” cans to Beverley so he can properly celebrate any wins the Wolves might get this postseason.

My only question to Budweiser would be, why stop after sending a few cans to the Timberwolves locker room? We’ve seen many different specialty cans of beer over the years, but a “Take They Ass Home” Bev Light can is something that would break sale records in Minnesota liquor stores. If Anheuser-Busch knows what it’s doing, we’ll see these new cans arriving all over the state by Friday afternoon.

Timberwolves Are Growing Up https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/minnesota-timberwolves-are-growing-up-clippers-nba-play-in/ Wed, 13 Apr 2022 15:42:24 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=38728 Karl-Anthony Towns was the Minnesota Timberwolves’ best chance of beating the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night, in a must-win play-in game, probably the biggest men’s basketball contest held at Target Center since 2004. But, Tyronn Lou and the Clips were invested in taking KAT away.

And it worked. Karl-Anthony Towns played, possibly, the worst game of his young career. He fouled out at 7:34 remaining in the 4th quarter, with just 11 points and 5 rebounds in 24 minutes. At that time, the Wolves were down seven points (93-86) and the early morning forecast in Minneapolis called for widespread heartbreak. A storm that Minnesota sports fans are quite accustomed to.

But instead, something rather unprecedented happened. D’Angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards, Patrick Beverley and the unproven young pups grew up. They found their bearings and outplayed, outsmarted a much more experienced opponent down the stretch of, in all reality, an elimination game. And, the skies full of gloom started to clear.

No KAT, No Problem

Without their best player for most of the night, the Minnesota Timberwolves outlasted the LA Clippers and their referee friends. Bev played the defensive instigator/agitator. Ant, DLo and Beas took over on offense and the Wolves willed themselves to a 109-104 victory in front of a home crowd that came “unglued” late in the 4th quarter.

In doing so, the Wolves claim the 7th seed and avoid the Phoenix Suns in round one of the Western Conference Playoffs. Instead, it’ll be the Memphis Grizzlies, who the Wolves have matched up well against all season. It’ll be much more difficult to take KAT away during a 7-game series, like the Clippers did on Tuesday. But last night, Karl-Anthony Towns needed his teammates and they answered the call.

D’Angelo Russell, who scored just three points in the first quarter, ended with 29 points on 10/18 (3/5 3PT) shooting and 6 assists. Anthony Edwards was equally impressive, posting 30 points on 10/21 (5/11 3PT) with 5 rebounds and both guys came through BIG TIME in the clutch.

Pat Bev Means Everything

Unlike Ant and DLo, Patrick Beverley’s contributions from Tuesday won’t show up in the box score. But if you were watching the second half last night, his importance was bursting out of your TV screen. He forced at least two important turnovers in the final minutes and slithered his way deep into the minds of Clipper players.

There was pushing, shoving, yelling and hand-swatting. Technical fouls were called, some even taken back. It was complete chaos, and in the middle of every scrum, was a smiling Pat Bev, who was perfectly within his element. Through the fog of play-in warfare, he provided the young Wolves with a beacon of confidence that allowed them to navigate to a victory.

Afterward, emotion poured out. Beverley is 100% bought in on flipping the narrative for the Timberwolves franchise. He knows what it feels like to be disrespected and, much like other guys on this roster, Pat has a giant chip on his shoulder.

Memphis up next

The Minnesota Timberwolves landing the 7th seed in the Western Conference makes the 2021-22 season a success. This is, by far, the best season this franchise and fanbase has enjoyed since 2004. Young Wolves fans have rarely, if ever, felt that rush of emotion from watching their favorite basketball team in a do-or-die game like they did last night.

Anything the Timberwolves do vs the Memphis Grizzlies in the next round will be a cherry on top of an already great year. Hopefully, that takes some pressure off of Towns and the team plays much more loose than it did earlier in the night vs the Los Angeles Clippers.

Pat Bev to Lakers Bench: Russell Westbrook is Trash https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/pat-bev-to-lakers-bench-russell-westbrook-is-trash/ Thu, 17 Mar 2022 02:15:15 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=38304 The Minnesota Timberwolves are in the process of running a LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers out of the Target Center tonight. This is a Wolves team that’s playing better than it has in nearly two decades and they’ve spent most of the night exposing an LA team that’s much more “hard time” than “primetime”.

But nobody in the NBA has fallen on harder times than Russell Westbrook, who’s playing so poorly of late that you wouldn’t want him on your Tuesday night pickup team at Lifetime Fitness. And because he plays for the Lakers, Westbrook’s struggles this season are well known across the basketball world.

Patrick Beverley Piles On

But Patrick Beverley doesn’t feel bad for Russ. In fact, Pat Bev is happy to pile on. After a sequence of plays exposed the worst parts of Westbrook’s game on both ends of the floor, Beverley turned to the Lakers bench, held pinched his nose with his right hand and let them know exactly what he thought of their point guard.

We cannot measure what Patrick Beverley has brought to the Minnesota Timberwolves. But if you ever find yourself doubting the move, watch this clip. Bev is the soul of this blossoming Wolves team and he is all-too-happy to show his younger teammates the way to playoff success. Play hard and be fearless.

Postgame Drama

The drama continued after the game. Russell Westbrook went after the entire Wolves roster, while claiming he didn’t care about their trash talk. And it’s 2022 so the verbal brawl had to spill over to social media, where Pat Bev did more talking.
