The rotation spot was filled by rookie Pierson Ohl making his Major League debut. Less than 24 hours later he’s headed back to Triple-A and Rocco Baldelli has a new pitcher coming in to take his spot.

Noah Davis to make MN Twins debut

Minnesota traded for right-handed pitcher Noah Davis from the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this month. He made two appearances at Triple-A St. Paul and is now back in the big leagues.

Minnesota used Ohl’s roster spot to promote Davis. The rookie turned in three innings of four-run ball against the Red Sox on Tuesday night. Ohl started strong with three strikeouts in the first inning, but things faded from there.

Davis worked in relief for the Saints and pitched two scoreless innings with a 3/1 K/BB. In six big league innings for the Dodgers earlier this year he got lit up for 14 runs (13 earned) on ten hits across just six innings.

Plenty of Davis’ season has been spent at Triple-A Oklahoma City. The Pacific Coast League is a difficult one to pitch in, but Davis tallied a 3.94 ERA across 32 innings. At the Major League level Davis has 57 1/3 innings across four seasons between Colorado and Los Angeles.

Drafted in the 11th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds, Davis did start six games in his second season (2023) with the Rockies. He’s a reliever though, and will look to eat innings at the bottom of the Twins bullpen heierarchy.

Minnesota is still awaiting the return of Bailey Ober to the starting rotation. That could happen as soon as Friday, and Davis’ spot on the roster may be in jeopardy then.

Until the deadline though, they’ll need to piece things together with what they have. The lineup is in a great place when it comes to health, but the pitching staff remains in flux. Although Zebby Matthews is on his way back, Pablo Lopez is going to be shelved for several more weeks.

The bullpen has done plenty of the heavy lifting in the interim, but there has been churn at the bottom of it. Anthony Misiewicz recently replaced Joey Wentz. A trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers has Noah Davis eyeing the next opportunity.

Pitcher Noah Davis acquired by Minnesota Twins

Last week the Los Angeles Dodgers designated Noah Davis for assignment after claiming Nick Nastrini. Rather than try to claim him off of waivers, the Minnesota Twins opted to call Los Angeles and make a trade.

Davis was an 11th round pick by the Cincinnati Reds during the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft. He made his debut with the Colorado Rockies in 2022 and pitched for them the next three seasons. The right-hander is 28 years old.

This year was the first Davis spent in a Dodgers uniform and the brief appearance did not go well. Across five games Davis threw just six innings and allowed 14 runs (13 earned) on ten hits. He had an 8/5 K/BB. Ten of the runs he allowed came in his final appearance, an 18-1 loss against Houston.

Los Angeles promoted Davis after he owned a 3.94 ERA across 32 innings at Triple-A. He had a 38/15 K/BB and owns a 4.59 ERA in 449 minor league innings.

For now Davis will head to Triple-A and look to compete for an opportunity with the Twins. Misiewicz is at the bottom of Minnesota’s bullpen pecking order, so that’s where the likely opportunity could fall.
