After Glen Taylor attempted to squeeze additional value out of his appreciating asset through arbitration, the NBA ultimately voted to approve Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore as the franchise’s new owners.

One of their first orders of business was bringing back franchise legend Kevin Garnett. His No. 21 has long deserved a place in the rafters at Target Center. And now, with Glen Taylor out of the picture, it will… though we still do not know when.

Taylor’s relationship with Garnett deteriorated beyond repair years ago. In the past decade, it’s been KG regularly making comments about the MN Timberwolves’ former owner, calling him a snake and vowing never to do business with him again.

Glen Taylor blames KG for his absence from MN Timberwolves

Glen, meanwhile, has always maintained publicly that Target Center is a safe space for Kevin Garnett. What Glen has not discussed publicly is the reasoning behind KG’s frustration, or even that its roots lie with him.

Now that Garnett’s return has been announced, Pioneer Press columnist Charley Walters went back to Taylor for his thoughts. And… well, it’s nice to know some things will never change.

Glen Taylor, when he owned the Timberwolves, on the recent front office return to the Wolves of Kevin Garnett, who finally will have his No. 21 jersey retired by the team: “For five different years I checked with him to see if he would be willing to do it, and he chose not to do it.”

Pioneer Press

It’s the classic, ‘Who, me?’ excuse.

Kevin Garnett: Still the greatest Wolf of all-time

Selected fifth overall straight out of high school in the 1995 NBA Draft, a move that was unheard of at the time, Kevin Garnett averaged 19.8 points per game in 970 games wearing a Minnesota Timberwolves uniform.

He owns the franchise’s only league MVP, which came in 2003-04 — the year he averaged 24.2 points, 13.9 rebounds, 5 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.2 blocks per game.

By the time the Hall-of Famer finally hung up his sneakers, Kevin Garnett had played for three different teams, was named to 15-All-Star teams and (most importantly) became an NBA champion (Boston Celtics – 2008).

Glen Taylor would be smart to shut his mouth

No matter what Taylor says, he stands no chance against the most popular player he ever paid, whether Garnett’s shunning is his fault or not. Thankfully, with Lore and Rodriguez now at the helm, we don’t have to worry about how much KG hates the richest man in Minnesota.

The new ownership group spent years fostering their relationship with “The Big Ticket,” and it’s now paying off. That’s all fans care about.

So unless the Wolves longtime owner is ready to read off an official apology statement, the best thing Glen Taylor could do, regarding this matter, is never make public comments about it again.

As part of his outgoing purchase agreement, Glen Taylor will keep his courtside seats at Target Center. Even if he and KG do wind up in the building on the same night, hopefully he doesn’t expect Kevin to come say hi.

Kevin Garnett Finally Returning to MN Timberwolves https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/kevin-garnett-jersey-retirement-business-involvement/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 14:54:43 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=75887 After Flip Saunders tragically died (Oct. 25, 2015), Kevin Garnett’s relationship with the Minnesota Timberwolves quickly deteriorated beyond repair, mostly due to the visceral hatred he’s developed for longtime MN Timberwolves owner, Glen Taylor.

But now, the Wolves have new owners for the first time since 1994. And for years now, new majority partners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez have been slowly trying to fix the blown up bridge that used to connect Garnett to the Minnesota Timberwolves organization.

MN Timberwolves reuniting with Kevin Garnett

Wolves fans want to see his uniform in the rafters at Target Center, and they want their favorite NBA team to reunite with a local superstar that touched the hearts of fans in Minnesota like VERY few athletes have, both before and after him. And according to Shams Charania (ESPN), we are about to get all that and more.

On Thursday morning, Shams is reporting that Kevin Garnett is being hired by the Minnesota Timberwolves in “an all-encompassing role involving business, community efforts and content development”. Of note, his new deal seems to include an overdue jersey retirement ceremony.

The last time the greatest player in franchise history was happy to step foot in Target Center goes back before the tragic death of Flip Saunders ten years ago — just three days before Minnesota tipped off their 2015-16 regular season.

Garnett lasted three months with the Wolves, after Flip’s passing. His last NBA game was played on January 23, 2016, a 106-101 Timberwolves victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. A 39-year-old KG scored 2 points in 9 minutes that night, then was marked inactive for Minnesota’s final 36 games.

Timing of Garnett hire couldn’t be more perfect

KG is coming aboard at the perfect time. The Minnesota Timberwolves are at arguably the most important point in franchise history. Anthony Edwards is a 24-year-old superstar that is continuing to blossom in this league, trying to lead the Wolves to places Garnett never could… on the court.

Not only is Kevin Garnett an NBA Hall of Famer, but after 12 years in Minnesota, he went to Boston and won a ring. Now, he’ll look to share that experience with a Timberwolves team on the brink of doing the same thing.

Anthony Edwards Sets MN Timberwolves Franchise Record https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/anthony-edwards-30-point-games-franchise-record/ Mon, 01 Dec 2025 03:00:44 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=73794 It has been an ugly run for the Minnesota Timberwolves of late. Anthony Edwards helped to waste a 40-burger against the Phoenix Suns, and the team carried their problems into a loss against the Sacramento Kings. Then an ugly closing stretch against Oklahoma City sank them into a three-game losing streak.

Minnesota bested the Boston Celtics on Saturday, and returned in a back-to-back Sunday with arguably the best closing stretch they have had all season. Edwards was in the middle of it, and he set a new franchise record in the process.

Timberwolves scoring title belongs to Anthony Edwards

Plenty of hoopla is generated when a player goes off for 40 or 50 points. Those are the outlier games though. Traditionally, an MVP-caliber player is going to average around 30 points per game, and now no one in Minnesota Timberwolves franchise history has had more of those games than Anthony Edwards.

Playing against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night, Edwards poured in 32 points for the Timberwolves. It was the 102nd time he has crossed the 30-point threshold in his career, and it broke a franchise tie with now New York Knicks big man Karl-Anthony Towns.

Minnesota saw Edwards reach the new record in 397 career games. Towns’ tally came across 573 games. Although the game was different back then, Kevin Garnett hit 30 points just 82 times in 970 games with the Timberwolves.

Edwards is averaging a career-best 28.7 points per game this season, but is being asked to do more overall. Since Tim Connelly didn’t shuffle the roster much this offseason, more pressure falls on the shoulders of Edwards. If Chris Finch’s team is going to make their first NBA Finals then the superstar has to find a new level. He can’t close out games like he did when they blew it against the Suns, but a 36-19 finish Sunday against the Spurs shows that the Timberwolves do have that dog somewhere in them.

Now 12-8 this season, the Minnesota Timberwolves can build momentum off of their latest win. They are back in action Tuesday in New Orleans against the Pelicans. The two sides play each other in consecutive contests with another road tilt on Thursday.

Kevin Garnett Bamboozled by Former Wolves Teammate? https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/kevin-garnett-joins-chauncey-billups-illegal-poker-games/ Fri, 24 Oct 2025 18:08:17 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=70218 The talk of the NBA over the past two days has not been the start of the regular season, which tipped off earlier this week. Instead, every league talking point over the last 36 hours has revolved around non-basketball buzzwords like feds, mafia, money and illegal gambling arrests.

Arguably the most notable NBA name involved is former Minnesota Timberwolves point guard, Chauncey Billups, whose Portland Trail Blazers lost their season opener Wednesday night against… you guessed it, the Wolves, where he played from 2000-2002.

Shortly after, the fifth-year Blazers head coach was arrested by the FBI on illegal gambling charges that are straight out of a futuristic Mafia movie, involving X-Ray glasses/contacts, celebrity scams and elaborate schemes to scam unknowing victims out of their money via underground rigged poker games.

Gambling scandal adds Kevin Garnett’s name to circus

But on Friday, Journalist Pablo Torre — who was all over the gambling scandal involving former MN Timberwolves guard Malik Beasley during the offseason — reports that Chauncey Billups and his Mafia buddies may have also reeled the greatest Wolves player of all time (for now), Kevin Garnett, with his scheme.

While Torre’s report doesn’t go that far, it does indeed say that KG was present during at least one of these phony poker events held by Billups and others indicted by what authorities have dubbed “Operation Royal Flush”, along with alleged cohort Damon Jones, presently an assistant in Cleveland.

Billups and Jones — who were known as “face cards” in the scheme — allegedly used their celebrity to lure victims into playing high-stakes poker games that were actually rigged, according to the indictment. “Cheating teams” set up an elaborate scheme involving technology that would alert the co-conspirator players to the cards on the table, allowing them to get an edge on the victims. The organizers allegedly used X-ray tables, glasses that enabled the showing of marked cards and technology that allowed a remote member of the team to let others know the cards in play, according to the indictment.

Doug Greenberg – ESPN

MN Timberwolves legend a victim or suspect?

Based on Torre’s tweet, it sounds like Garnett may have been a victim of Billups’ scheme, where he essentially had his money unknowingly stolen. It’s also possible KG knowingly participated in the operation, using his celebrity to help lure victims in.

Either way we’ll likely find out on the next episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out. In total, 30 people have been arrested by the FBI, as part of their investigation, which spans beyond whatever poker scams Billups and Jones were allegedly operating.

NBA wing Terry Rozier was also arrested in relation to the FBI’s “operation “Operation Royal Flush” though he is being accused of fixing personal stat lines to pay off bets, not these poker games

A-Rod, Lore Trying to Bring KG Home… Among Other Former Timberwolves  https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/plan-for-kevin-garnett-return-other-alumni/ Mon, 21 Jul 2025 14:51:02 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=65193

It’s hard to assess the value of what Kevin Garnett has brought to the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise, because it’s probably invaluable. Selected out of high school with the 5th overall pick in 1995, KG came with a lot of risk, as the first prep player to be drafted to the NBA in 20 years.

Nearly immediately, Garnett became a problem for Wolves opponents, even making an All-Star team in 1996-97, just his second season in the league. That was also the first year our Minnesota Timberwolves, then just eight years old, ever made the playoffs.

They’d go on to make eight-straight postseason appearances between 1997-2004, a run that culminated in an MVP Trophy for KG, the organization’s first Western Conference Finals appearance and without a doubt one of the greatest teams in franchise history.

That time Glen Taylor and Kevin McHale blew up the bridge back to KG

Eventually, the organizational mismanagement displayed during the KG era, by both owner Glen Taylor and then general manager Kevin McHale, finally caught up with them.

After their ’04-’05 West Finals run, the Wolves let Sam Cassell walk to the Clippers, then undercut Latrell Sprewell during contract negotiations, putting a sudden stop to all the momentum built up over the last decade.

Then, during the 2007 NBA offseason, Minnesota traded KG to Boston, where he, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen would go on to win an NBA Championship their very first year together.

Not only did Taylor and company short change KG’s Timberwolves career, during his first stint in Minnesota, but according to Garnett, Taylor then lied about post-retirement ownership and front office opportunities, when he came back as a trade deadline acquisition in 2014-2015, then finished his career where it ended in 2016-17.

Related: Kevin Garnett a Priority for New Timberwolves Owners

When he pulled the rug, Kevin Garnett went scorched earth, disassociating himself with the NBA organization that raised him, refusing a jersey retirement or pretty much anything to do with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

New owners committed to bringing Kevin Garnett back, along with other former Minnesota Timberwolves greats

When Glen Taylor finally decided to sell the team, though, whispers of a KG return sounded throughout the state. And now that Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore are officially taking over, fans are anxiously awaiting the jersey-hanging ceremony.

And according A-Rod, the new majority owners have it top of mind too. Recently on NBA Radio (SiriusXM), Rodriguez publicly announced an intent to “bring KG home, retire his jersey [and] build a statue outside the Target Center”.

This is a refreshing feeling, after KG distanced himself from the franchise for the past 10 years. But Lore and A-Rod aren’t stopping their Target Center reunion with Garnett. The former Yankee/Mariners great told SiriusXM that he and Lore are intent on bringing back all sorts of Wolves alumni, as part of their new era plan

“We love KG, and people often ask, ‘how do you bridge the relationship’? Well, we don’t have to bridge anything. We’ve always had a really good relationship with Kevin. I’ve been a huge admirer of his. He was the [Wolves] No. 1 pick in ’95, I was the No. 1 pick in ’93.

The way he went about his business, the chip on his shoulder, the way he represented Minnesota. He’s so important to our fanbase…Look, he’s our Babe Ruth, plain and simple. We don’t have a great deal of history. But the one history we do have, we want to bring it back inside the 10 [yard line].

But not only Kevin Garnett. We have an incredible alumni. I was really jealous when I saw what the Knicks had with all their crew. I mean, that really brings a lot of energy to the fanbase, to the current players. We had that with the Yankees, we want to do that in Minnesota.”

Alex Rodriguez – SiriusXM Radio

During Garnett’s playing days, Glen Taylor lead the Timberwolves into a world of endless nothing. When he did try something, it was usually reckless and backfired.

Like when he went under the table to try and give Joe Smith more money than what league rules allowed, he got caught and the league slapped him with fines and draft restrictions that made life difficult for years to come.

Alex Rodriguez, Marc Lore’s beautiful MN Timberwolves vision

Reaching out to alumni, even beyond Kevin Garnett, is a brilliant idea. Back in the day, the Minnesota Timberwolves had a ton of great players and fun personalities that we’ve pretty much never seen again, once they left town.

Guys like Stephon Marbury, Tom Gugliotta, Sam Cassell, Wally Szczerbiak, Terrell Brandon… the list goes on. Much like what we see from the Twins and Vikings, Lore and A-Rod want to bring more members of old Wolves bands back together. Hell, invite Chauncey Billups while you’re at it, too.

Under Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore’s broader plan to unite the fanbase, and hopefully build a new arena, is it too much to hope the Minnesota Timberwolves will soon be one of the best-run franchises in the entire association? Let’s hope so. But really, it won’t be difficult to do better than Glen Taylor.

Kevin Garnett a Priority for New Timberwolves Owners https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/kevin-garnett-coming-back-alex-rodriguez-marc-lore/ Thu, 03 Jul 2025 20:21:57 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=64611 The Minnesota Timberwolves recently changed hands. Out is Glen Taylor and in are Marco Lore and Alex Rodriguez. The new ownership group has additional parties in play. The two figureheads understand how important legacy players are to the franchise.

Kevin Garnett has stayed away from the franchise he helped to put on the map as long as Glen Taylor was involved. There has been hope that he would surface during recent playoff runs. The man in charge made that a non-starter.

Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore want no part of that, and they are committed to getting Garnett back in the fold as soon as possible.

Minnesota Timberwolves owners out to repair KG relationship

Glen Taylor could have made an effort to repair his relationship with scorned star Kevin Garnett. He never did so, and that is why the Hall of Famer still has yet to see his “21” retired by the franchise. Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore aren’t going to make that same mistake.

“There’s already been dialogue. Certainly A-Rod, Lore as well, but A-Rod realizes the importance of repairing that relationship. Behind the scenes there’s already been work done. You talk to one of KG’s good friends, well multiple good friends here in town Troy Hudson, Gary Trent Sr., yeah they think the likelihood is now. Incredibly more so with Alex and Marc in charge with Glen out of the picture, that something happens. What exactly that looks like, is it a consultant role? I don’t know exactly. Kevin wants to have his fingerprints on the roster. Some of those things. I don’t know exactly what it will look like. I know Carlos Boozer’s now helping the Utah Jazz. Could KG do something like that here? Then obviously 21 hanging from the rafters long overdue.”

Darren Wolfson – Skor North

It goes without saying to suggest that Kevin Garnett is the most influential player to ever put on a Minnesota Timberwolves uniform. Ideally Anthony Edwards would someday reach that level of fame as well.

Garnett took home MVP honors during the 2003-04 season. He averaged 19.8 points per game with the Timberwolves and hauled in 11.0 rebounds per game as well. The Big Ticket was not only a fan favorite, but also excelled amongst the league as a whole.

It’s been beyond disappointing that Garnett has been estranged from the franchise for years. Taylor not mending those fences is laughable in its own right, but seeing new ownership prioritize the relationship is beyond a positive.

Kevin Garnett Unsure About Return to MN — Thinking Bigger Than Timberwolves https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-timberwolves/kevin-garnett-return-rumors-latest-april-2025/ Tue, 15 Apr 2025 02:38:37 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=62440 The Minnesota Timberwolves are on the verge of a majority ownership change for the first time since 1994, when Glen Taylor saved the five-year-old NBA franchise from being shipped off to New Orleans or elsewhere. One year later, the Wolves did something that was mostly unheard of, at the time.

With the No. 5 overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft, the Wolves and their new owner selected 6-11, 200 lb high school beanstalk, Kevin Garnett, who had just graduated from Farragut Academy in Chicago months earlier. Back then, drafting a high schooler was considered one of the riskiest top 5 draft picks in NBA history.

The rest, as they say, is history. Garnett played 14 total seasons for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Until Anthony Edwards gets a few more seasons under his belt, KG will be known as the greatest Wolf of all time.

Unfortunately, since originally being traded to the Boston Celtics in 2007, the relationship between the Timberwolves and their GOAT has completely deteriorated, thanks to a three-decade-long feud with incumbent owner Glen Taylor.

Outside of a brief return to Minnesota for the final two years of his NBA career, which was facilitated by the late, great Flip Saunders, Kevin Garnett has mostly avoided the city that raised him like the plague.

But with Taylor soon to be out of the picture — not only is KG’s No. 21 jersey expected to be hanging in the rafters of Target Center very very soon, but local reports also have Kevin Garnett planning a return to the Minnesota Timberwolves, in some sort of undisclosed front office role, as soon as Lore and A-Rod take over.

Kevin Garnett talks about possible return to Minnesota Timberwolves

According to Kevin Garnett, however, his return to Minnesota and his future working for the Timberwolves is not yet clear. Instead, Garnett told former Celtics teammate and good friend Paul Pierce — during a recent episode of his KG Certified show — that he is not sure yet if he will accept a job with the Wolves.

The now 48-year-old former NBA superstar turned media influencer says he is still locked in on personal projects he is working on. While it sounds like he has talked to the Minnesota Timberwolves (probably A-Rod) about a possible role, it doesn’t seem as though anything is near being locked in.

If he does come back, Garnett told Pierce he wants his return to Minnesota to be bigger than the Timberwolves. On top of whatever his other duties are, KG wants to be an ambassador for the entire state and all of its sports teams — a connector who can help raise the bar and help bring entire state back together, while helping to promote the Wolves, Vikings, Twins, Wild and Gophers.

Pierce: “You got a lot of DNA in Minnesota. I was just seeing if you saw yourself going back and injecting that franchise with some of your energy?

KG: “I would love to, I would love to. But I want to be on the same page. A lot of the concerns that I have, or at least some of the things that I want to grow and develop in Minnesota, has nothing to do with on the court [basketball]. Communities and the bondage and bringing the city back together, is kinda what I’m on.

I want to go back and touch the guys and have everybody be excited about the Timberwolves and the Twins, the Vikings and the Wild and the University of Minnesota… the Gophers, and all that shit. So I’m on that. If they want to do something like that, I’m with it. I’m all for that. But again, I’m building something, I’m locked in on something, so year, I’m committed to what I’m doing too.

KG Certified Show (via Instagram)

Originally from Greenville, South Carolina — where he spent the first 17 years of his life, before transferring to Farragut for his senior year — KG left the Windy City as 1994-95 Illinois Mr. Basketball, the McDonald’s All-American Game MVP and the 1994-95 USA Today National High School Player of the Year.

Even with all those high school accolades, few at the time saw Garnett growing up in Minnesota and eventually graduating to Boston, where between the two teams, he went to 15 All-Star Games, got 9 All-NBA nods and in 2003-04 became Minnesota’s sole NBA MVP.

Now, we just want him back in our state. So whatever KG wants, just give it to him.

For now, Glen Taylor remains the majority owner of the 36-year-old NBA organization, but that looks like it will change very, very soon.

If the next handful of weeks play out as expected — meaning Glen Taylor doesn’t appeal his lost arbitration decision and the NBA board of governors approves billionaire Marc Lore within the expected timeline (more on that below) — then the Minnesota Timberwolves will have a new majority owner by playoff time.

When that day does come, and Lore + A-Rod take over control of the Minnesota Timberwolves, we can expect some splash moves that are sure to excite the fanbase. But on Sunday morning, longtime local insider Charley Walters (Pioneer Press) gave us a sneak peak into what is likely to be the first “shock and awe” move of the Lore/A-Rod era. And boy oh boy, it’s a doozie.

According to Walters, Wolves legend Kevin Garnett will be hired to work in the Wolves’ front office immediately upon Lore’s majority ownership being made official. This, after he has mostly avoided Target Center for the last decade due to his unyielding hatred for Glen Taylor.

“A little birdie says Kevin Garnett will become part of the Timberwolves’ front office as soon as it’s official that Lore and Rodriguez get ownership.”

Charley Walters – Pioneer Press

Kevin Garnett finally rejoining Wolves for good

Kevin Garnett spent the first 12 seasons of his HOF career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, from 1995 to 2007, stands as the greatest player in franchise history. Anthony Edwards is the only superstar who has come along and even challenged Garnett for that crown.

As a Wolf, “The Big Ticket” averaged 19.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game, leading the Timberwolves to eight consecutive playoff appearances (1997-2004). In 2004, KG won the NBA MVP, after averaging 24.2 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists that season.

Kevin Garnett was named to 9 All-Star teams, 7 All-NBA selections (four First Team, two Second Team, and one Third Team) and 8 All-Defensive Teams (six First Team, two Second Team). His No. 21 jersey was retired by the Timberwolves in 2022.

Expect to see the Kevin Garnett No. 21 jersey raised up too

Unfortunately, thanks to his ongoing beef with Glen Taylor, he’s refused any and all requests to put that jersey up in the rafters of Target Center, where it rightfully belongs. Once Taylor is out, we can expect No. 21 to go up in the rafters almost as quickly as Garnett himself is back in Minnesota Timberwolves facilities.

We do not know exactly when NBA owners will meet next, when a MN Timberwolves majority ownership change is expected to be on the docket. Darren “Doogie” Wolfson reports that late-March would be the earliest. The season ends on April 13, meaning we can expect the vote to take place sometime in the next 1-2 months.

Last year, the 2023-24 end-of-season board of governors meeting took place on the weekend of April 8. To officially pry ownership out of Glen Taylor’s arthritis-ridden fingers, the Lore + A-Rod group needs a 3/4 approval vote from the 30 NBA owners. All reports so far have them reaching the 23 votes they need.

That was two decades ago and a lot has happened between KG and the organization (mostly Glen Taylor) since then.

In theory, Garnett should have a permanent suite in Target Center and a home at the top of some hill in on Lake Minnetonka, both of which he would frequent throughout the year. Instead, he rarely shows up for Wolves games and has mostly disassociated himself from the franchise.

But according to his former Boston Celtics teammate, Kendrick Perkins on NBA Today (ESPN) on Wednesday, the Minnesota Timberwolves legend is going to put all of that to the side for game 5 of the 2024 Western Conference Finals on Thursday, when the Wolves try to maintain their NBA Playoff existence.

That’s right, The Big Ticket is returning home to Minneapolis which means there’s absolutely no chance that the Minnesota Timberwolves are losing game 5, right?

While playing for the Wolves, (1996-2007), KG averaged 20.5 points, 11.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.4 steals per game. He quite literally did it all. In Minnesota, Garnett earned an MVP (2003-04), made 8 All-NBA teams (3 1st teams) and 8 All-Defense teams. He was and forever will be the Minnesota Timberwolves original superstar.

That’s right, it is happening. For the first time in 20 years, too. In fact, the last time the Wolves made it this far, a prime Kevin Garnett was the centerpiece of the squad that did it, back in 2003-04.

But so far during this postseason, Garnett is yet to make it to Target Center to attend a 2024 playoff game. Most people assume that’s because of his disdain for majority owner Glen Taylor, who KG has beefed with for most of the past decade+.

Kevin Garnett plans to attend Minnesota Timberwolves vs Dallas Mavericks

On Monday during the Stephen A. Smith Show, however, Garnett made it clear that he does plan to attend both a Western Conference Finals game in Minneapolis and an Eastern Conference Finals game with another of his former teams, the Boston Celtics.

Stephen A: “I mean, you played there! Are you going to go to a [Timberwolves] game, KG?”

KG: “I got to, I got to. Not only do I need to get to a couple Minnesota games, I gotta get to some Celtics games and, and, and figure all that out.”

Of course, KG attending a playoff game is not the same as it would be if he retired his jersey and No. 21 into the rafters of Target Center. But no doubt, putting him on the jumbotron would cause the roof of the arena to blow.

But even if Garnett isn’t able to make it to the Twin Cities for this upcoming Western Conference Finals matchup, maybe he can sit tight and wait for a Boston Celtics vs Minnesota Timberwolves NBA Finals? Then, he could just fly back and forth between arenas and attend both?

I’d be down for that…
