It wasn’t their best showing of the season offensively… but power pays off. The Twins teams of our past would never have won last night’s game. It would have been one of those classic 3-1 big game losses of our past… but power pays off…

I lost at least 3 months of my life last night but it was totally worth it. Mike Minor was lights-fucking-out but that’s what makes this Twins team so great, because it only takes one batter, on one pitch, in one moment. Sure baseball is always like that, but this team is different… like historically on-pace to smash the HR record — different.

But it still feels weird, because when does Minnesota ever have the biggest, most bad-ass anything? We’re always happy to be the sneaky, scratch and claw (not white claw) your way to the middle of the pack, underdog-type. But, the Twins lineup is the most feared in baseball and Nelson Cruz isn’t even in it right now… or Byron Buxton, who the Twins are WAY better with BTW.

The most memorable Twins slogan in my lifetime is the “Smell ’em” team from 2006. You might smell this Twins team but before you can do anything about it, Max Kepler might punch you in the face with the first pitch of the game. Then, his friends pile on and before you know it; you’re crying, I’m smiling, your wife and kids left you, and there are 6 runs on the board.

To think that the most historic offense in MLB history will be the 2019 Minnesota Twins… sorry, let me put my erection away..

This baseball team is a perfect example of what we’re preaching at Minnesota Sports Fan. There is no reason why Minnesota teams can’t reach greatness. If the Twins can set the MLB home run record, then fuck… anything is possible.

Twins Banned from Canada After Abusing Blue Jays 20-1 During Series Sweep https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-twins/twins-banned-from-canada-after-abusing-blue-jays-20-1-during-series-sweep/ https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-twins/twins-banned-from-canada-after-abusing-blue-jays-20-1-during-series-sweep/#respond Thu, 09 May 2019 02:04:35 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=15419 I tried to warn the Blue Jays last weekend, that if the Twins lost the series they were playing to the Yankees, at that time, Toronto was in big fucking trouble. The 2019 Minnesota Twins HATE losing, especially a series in New York.

And holy Canada… was I right.. First, there were games one and two from Monday and Tuesday. Martin Perez and Jose Berrios + the Twins offense combined for an 11-0 score over 18 innings and they had the Blue Jays wondering if boycotting baseball would have been the better early week option..

But sweeping a team in the MLB isn’t easy so the Twins had probably thought they had a tough and difficult task ahead of them tonight. I mean hell, the law of averages says the game would have to at least be close… that Toronto might put a few runs on the board…

Well, not really. They did get one, which is one more than they had the first two night combined… The Twins, though… they didn’t have any problems once again.

It was a good start to the week, in Toronto. But, it’s just the first 3 games of a stretch that includes 20-straight games vs teams that didn’t make the postseason last year. That means, by the time we start discussing the All-Star rosters, the Twins have a chance to build a gap between themselves and Cleveland that would be hard to kick a rock across.

Cleveland was able to sneak a W in tonight, between all of their recent L’s, so the gap between the two teams remains 4 games until tomorrow…

Schoop! There it Is; Twins Make a Move https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-twins/schoop-there-it-is-twins-make-a-move/ https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-twins/schoop-there-it-is-twins-make-a-move/#respond Thu, 06 Dec 2018 23:04:59 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=11624

Not even 24 hours after I criticized the Twins for missing out on top pitching targets on the free agent markets, the Twins make their first big move off the offseason. Welcome aboard Johathan Schoop!

The Twins had a void to fill at second base after trading Brian Dozier to the Dodgers, and with Nick Gordon a year away from being ready the Twins needed to figure out something for that spot for 2019. What does Schoop bring to the table? Well for one, he’s pretty good defensively compared to Dozier (who we all thought was an above average defensive second baseman, but apparently we were wrong)

So Schoop will be able to field the position which will help out the pitching staff.

Secondly, he can rake and he’s young:

His overall numbers in 2018 weren’t the best (he hit .233 combined between Baltimore and Milwaukee) but a midseason injury and a switch from the AL to NL are not factors that usually have a positive impact on offensive performance (unless you are Manny Ramirez and the LA Dodgers).

The last 2 years he hit a COMBINED 57 home runs and drove in 187 runs, as a second baseman. Those numbers aren’t supposed to exist at that position. Is he on that same level today? No but I believe he’s better than what he showed with the Brewers. Schoop is only 27 so there are still some productive years left in him. As a 1 year deal to keep the seat warm for Nick Gordon, I actually really like the signing.

Hopefully it means the Twins were listening and are ready to get the ball rolling because there is more to be done. Here are Schoop’s numbers so far in his career:
