Nearly a half-decade ago, Taylor agreed to sell the Wolves and Lynx to Lore and A-Rod at a price that, not long after, he realized was substantially below market value. Throw in the sky-rocketing prices of professional sports franchises in the time since a deal was consummated, and the logic behind Glen’s buyer’s remorse is easy to find.

Fortunately for Lore, Rodriguez and MN Timberwolves fans, the purchasing group never stepped outside of the parameters set by the ironclad original contract, so Taylor had no way to nullify the deal.

So while it years longer and millions of dollars (in legal fees) more than it should have, but eventually the owner of 30 years was forced to hand over the keys to Target Center.

But as the arbitration hearings were happening, Glen Taylor made one final (desperate) attempt to keep the Minnesota Timberwolves under his control by digging up dirt on Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez that he felt would make the NBA refuse the sale.

His big master plan? According to NBA and NFL insider Pablo Torre (Pablo Torre Finds Out), Taylor had some of his aides created a 77-point Mean Girls style Burn Book list that he was hoping to present publicly and to the league, to turn everyone against the soon-to-be majority owners.

Then, right before the owners ratified the deal via vote, Glen took over their Zoom call to beg for courtside seats to Wolves games for the next decade, in order for the deal to go through. believed were reasons why the league and public should irrelevant information as to why the new owners weren’t qualified.

“Glen Taylor’s legal strategy, was quote, baffling…Glen Taylor, in the months during this push and pull, had two executives create what amounts to a Burn Book. As in, a Mean Girls style list, a list that has been described to me as number and 77 items long. This list of 77 things, Glen Taylor slash the Timberwolves, hate about Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, was communicating to the NBA and to anyone who would listen, you can’t approve these guys.

Some items on this are: Marc Lore had dinner with Kevin Garnett and never told me. Alex Rodriguez did steroids. A-Rod is a liar. A-Rod is a cheat. A-Rod had the largest suspension in MLB history. They get to 77 things, but it’s all along the lines of, does he remember that this is a hearing related to arbitration about a legal contract. None of this has anything to do with anything.”

The level of hilarity that must have ensued for all involved here must have been unprecedented. Glen Taylor’s strategy comes across as a 12-year-old negotiating with a lawyer over why he shouldn’t be grounded.

Torre went on to reveal (also in the video above) that, also on Glen’s list was Rodriguez’s interview with Katie Couric nearly two decades ago, in which he denied the steroid use that we all eventually found out he did. But again, none of this has any bearing on their arbitration process.

When he took over the NBA owners’ Zoom vote, Pablo reports that Taylor was on mute and didn’t know it, then had trouble figuring out how to unmute himself. In fact, Lore and A-Rod had to help him troubleshoot the technological “problem”. But hey, at least he got his same courtside seats out of the deal…

Someday, Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez will have a new arena built. You know what won’t be on the terrace? A statue of Glen Taylor. Thanks for saving the team back in 1994, Glen, but don’t let the door hit you on the way out!

But a few months later, he fell out of the running. Since then, the Twins have suggested multiple interested suitors, and reports have cropped up of possible offers being on the table. As of now, however, there are yet to be any reports of who these interested parties are or how much they have been willing to offer.

One name that has been floated by multiple insiders around town is former Minnesota Timberwolves owner, Glen Taylor. Now that the local billionaire has $1.5+ billion in his pocket, from the sale of the Wolves, would self-made billionaire be open to turning around and saving the Twins from the Pohlads?

Well, on Thursday we got the answer to that question when Darren “Doogie” Wolfson got on the SKOR North Twins Show where he reported that the Taylor + Twins dream is dead. But not only is the former Wolves owner uninterested in the Twins, neither are the current ones.

According to Wolfson, Glen will not be the next Minnesota Twins owner and neither will Marc Lore or Alex Rodriguez, who may have interest in purchasing another pro sports franchise in town, apparently, but not the local nine.

“Glen Taylor, no. No interest in the Twins. Marc Lore, Alex Rodriguez, no. Perhaps interest in another franchise in town? I wouldn’t dismiss that. But interest in the Twins, the answer would be no.”

It’ll be interesting to hear which team exactly the Marc Lore + Alex Rodriguez group has its eyes on. The only local team in the major four pro sports world that would seem to have any availability for new owners would be the Minnesota Wild.

Could A-Rod/Lore be interested in the Minnesota Wild?

Of course, Craig Leipold loves his Wild and wouldn’t seem to be interested in selling. However, he is struggling to get new funding for renovations to Grand Casino Arena (formerly Xcel Energy Center).

Is it possible Lore and A-Rod have approached Leipold with an offer to purchase some of the team, in exchange for going in on a multi-sport complex in Minneaoplis that could house both the Wolves and Wild?

Unless the Timberwolves’ new owners are targeting a non-major four team, like the Frost or the United FC, an interest in obtaining a piece of the Wild probably makes the most sense.

No matter, it’s become clear that one pro sports team no billionaire seems all that interested in is the Minnesota Twins, who are $400 million in debt and struggling to get offers for more than $1.5 million, while the Pohlad asking price sits at $1.7 million.

According to the both the team and league‘s press release, the newest members of the NBA’s exclusive owners club will serve as Timberwolves Co-Chairmen, with Lore serving as the organization’s primary “Governor” and A-Rod as “Alternate Governor”. Of note, the two will swap roles, when it comes to the WNBA’s Lynx.

As the new controlling owners, Lore and Rodriguez will assume full leadership responsibility for the Timberwolves, Lynx and Iowa Wolves (G League). They will serve as Co-Chairmen, with Lore assuming the role of Timberwolves Governor and Rodriguez as Alternate Governor.

For the Lynx, Rodriguez will serve as Governor while Lore will act as Alternate Governor. This milestone, made official by the NBA’s Board of Governors’ approval, marks the culmination of the gradual transfer of ownership from longtime General Partner Glen Taylor.

We do not yet know exactly what the vote count was, but Darren Wolfson (KSTP) reported on SKOR North Tuesday that, if the vote didn’t wind up being unanimous, it’s possible Glen Taylor would get one “No” vote, to Lore and A-Rod taking over, likely by the Pacers.

What stands out about today’s news isn’t the approval, itself. Instead, it’s how included Alex Rodriguez is in the announcement. We know Lore has been committed to A-Rod as the public face of this new ownership group, but it’s believed that Marc owns by far the largest share of anyone.

Still, the way this is being relayed… it’s being made very, very clear that — no matter what his ownership percentage is (which isn’t exactly clear at this point) — he will remain at the forefront of every decision this new group makes.

This ends a 31-year run of ownership for Glen Taylor. The officially soon-to-be former owner bought the franchise in 1994, essentially saving an NBA franchise that had nearly been sold to a group wanting to move the team to New Orleans just months earlier.

Of course, by the time he sold the Minnesota Timberwolves — then spent years fighting to get it back — he overstayed his welcome with most of the fanbase. From under-the-table deals gone wrong to hall of fame former players that want nothing to do with the organization… Taylor’s time had come and gone long ago.

Now, Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez will strive for a new arena somewhere in the Twin Cities. How much they are willing to pay will likely dictate how successful they are in making that dream come true. Either way, there is pretty much zero chance the Timberwolves are moved out of Minnesota now, or anytime in the future.

Taylor accepted his fate following arbitration hearings earlier this spring. Lore and A-Rod, who have been chomping at the bit to get going — will soon be putting their first official orders of business in motion.

Timeline set for Minnesota Timberwolves ownership change

Now that the legal battle for ownership of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been put in the rearview mirror, the last hurdle needing to be overcome is the NBA owners vote, of which Lore needs 2/3 majority to seal this deal.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the new ownership group is expected to be approved easily. And we also know when it will take place. According to a recent report from The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski, the NBA Board of Governors vote for Timberwolves majority ownership will take place in less than a month, “toward the end of June”.

“Sometime toward the end of June, team sources familiar with the process told The Athletic, the league is expected to hold a final vote to approve Lore and Rodriguez as the new majority owners of the Timberwolves and Lynx.”

The exact date has not been made known, but the end of June coincides with some important dates on the league calendar. The NBA Draft is scheduled for June 25th. Minnesota holds the 17th and 31st overall selections. Just a few days later, June 30th, free agency opens.

It would behoove the Minnesota Timberwolves to have their new owners assume full power prior to those events taking place. The vote to make the ownership change permanent should go as planned, but until it’s cemented in reality both Rodriguez and Lore must wait.

This offseason is a significant one for the Timberwolves. President Tim Connelly could look to go elsewhere, and the roster changes are expected to be significant. Julius Randle, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Naz Reid are all key players that Minnesota must decide on how they fit into future plans.

Anthony Edwards and his running mates came up short losing 4-1 in the Western Conference Finals for the second year in a row. Finding a blueprint to get beyond that point, and over the hump, will require looks at the roster and coaching staff.

New arena plans underway for Timberwolves

It’s not just the roster configuration that new owners Rodriguez and Lore are concerned with. Minnesota’s home arena, Target Center, is 35 years old and it needs more than just a facelift. In fact, the plan is to find a new home digs, something that the new owners have made clear will be a priority right away.

“They plan to be much more aggressive with their investment on the business side of the operations, including formulating plans for a new arena, team sources told The Athletic. The partners have openly stated their firm commitment to keeping the team in Minnesota, and team sources reiterated that is the long-term vision for a team that is booming in popularity locally, thanks to their playoff runs the last two seasons.”

Multiple different sites and ideas have been floated regarding a new arena. It is something that the franchise must capitalize on while excitement is currently at an all-time high. How the building is funded, where, and what designs look like will all be of significant importance to fans.

Building over the offseason is always a goal for every franchise across the NBA. With such a monumental change at the top of the organization, this one figures to be the most significant in franchise history.

If Lore and Rodriguez can usher in a summer of excitement, and parlay that into a season of success, fans will be waiting in droves to enter the new building whenever its doors open.

That reality isn’t limited to the field, it’s true up and down the organization, all the way up to (and especially) ownership. Attendance continues to dip and only winning can save it. If victories don’t start coming more consistently, there’s no doubt fan apathy will reach all-time levels.

Is Glen Taylor interested in buying the Minnesota Twins?

Outside of more wins, the only thing that could save fan interest would be some positive on the Minnesota Twins’ sales process, a front that has been quiet for months. But is it possible we are waiting for the Minnesota Timberwolves ownership transition to become official before something happens on the Twins?

Well, in a roundabout way, it’s possible. According to longtime Pioneer Press columnist Charley Walters, it’s possible local billionaire — and current Wolves majority owner — Glen Taylor may have interest in purchasing the Major League Baseball franchise that plays across the street from Target Center.

But if he is interested, the 84-year-old out of Mankato is declining comment until he is officially ousted as MN Timberwolves’ majority owner.

Right now, the only thing left for the sale of the Minnesota Timberwolves to go through is a vote by NBA owners. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Marc Lore is expected to be approved as majority owner. The $1.5 billion in sudden liquidity (according to Walters) would make Taylor worth nearly $4 billion with lots of liquid cash on hand.

Taylor, 84, who will be worth nearly $4 billion if he sells the Timberwolves-Lynx, has received several calls seeking his interest in buying the Twins. First, though, he wants his basketball transaction to be finalized.

At that point, Glen Taylor would certainly have the funds to buy the Minnesota Twins. Now, it’s important to not that MLB owners do not rake in profits hand-over-foot like NBA teams. Would Taylor see an investment in the Twins as worth it, especially knowing their books are at least somewhat upside down? We may be close to finding out.

If Taylor were to swoop in, then be as aggressive with the Twins as he has been recently with the Timberwolves, who knows what kind of roster he could build, being Major League Baseball has no salary cap. But again, we are getting ahead of ourselves, thinking that way.

Just get the sale done…

The Pohlad family is asking for $1.7-$1.8B billion, despite Forbes saying it isn’t only worth $1.4-$1.5 billion, in part due to their being $100s of millions in debt on the books. While it appears the Pohlads remain serious about selling, it’s still possible that a lack of interest leads to the Twins not being sold at all.

It’s hard to fathom how catastrophic that could be for the Pohlads, from a fan response standpoint. Ultimately the Pohlads need to find a suitor for their baseball team, and the sooner they can do it, the sooner the franchise can turn the page.

If that new owner is Glen Taylor, even if only in the interim, then so be it. Given what he’s proven with the Minnesota Timberwolves, he’d be a heck of a lot better than those currently writing the checks.

With the No. 5 overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft, the Wolves and their new owner selected 6-11, 200 lb high school beanstalk, Kevin Garnett, who had just graduated from Farragut Academy in Chicago months earlier. Back then, drafting a high schooler was considered one of the riskiest top 5 draft picks in NBA history.

The rest, as they say, is history. Garnett played 14 total seasons for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Until Anthony Edwards gets a few more seasons under his belt, KG will be known as the greatest Wolf of all time.

Unfortunately, since originally being traded to the Boston Celtics in 2007, the relationship between the Timberwolves and their GOAT has completely deteriorated, thanks to a three-decade-long feud with incumbent owner Glen Taylor.

Outside of a brief return to Minnesota for the final two years of his NBA career, which was facilitated by the late, great Flip Saunders, Kevin Garnett has mostly avoided the city that raised him like the plague.

But with Taylor soon to be out of the picture — not only is KG’s No. 21 jersey expected to be hanging in the rafters of Target Center very very soon, but local reports also have Kevin Garnett planning a return to the Minnesota Timberwolves, in some sort of undisclosed front office role, as soon as Lore and A-Rod take over.

According to Kevin Garnett, however, his return to Minnesota and his future working for the Timberwolves is not yet clear. Instead, Garnett told former Celtics teammate and good friend Paul Pierce — during a recent episode of his KG Certified show — that he is not sure yet if he will accept a job with the Wolves.

The now 48-year-old former NBA superstar turned media influencer says he is still locked in on personal projects he is working on. While it sounds like he has talked to the Minnesota Timberwolves (probably A-Rod) about a possible role, it doesn’t seem as though anything is near being locked in.

If he does come back, Garnett told Pierce he wants his return to Minnesota to be bigger than the Timberwolves. On top of whatever his other duties are, KG wants to be an ambassador for the entire state and all of its sports teams — a connector who can help raise the bar and help bring entire state back together, while helping to promote the Wolves, Vikings, Twins, Wild and Gophers.

Pierce: “You got a lot of DNA in Minnesota. I was just seeing if you saw yourself going back and injecting that franchise with some of your energy?

KG: “I would love to, I would love to. But I want to be on the same page. A lot of the concerns that I have, or at least some of the things that I want to grow and develop in Minnesota, has nothing to do with on the court [basketball]. Communities and the bondage and bringing the city back together, is kinda what I’m on.

I want to go back and touch the guys and have everybody be excited about the Timberwolves and the Twins, the Vikings and the Wild and the University of Minnesota… the Gophers, and all that shit. So I’m on that. If they want to do something like that, I’m with it. I’m all for that. But again, I’m building something, I’m locked in on something, so year, I’m committed to what I’m doing too.

Even with all those high school accolades, few at the time saw Garnett growing up in Minnesota and eventually graduating to Boston, where between the two teams, he went to 15 All-Star Games, got 9 All-NBA nods and in 2003-04 became Minnesota’s sole NBA MVP.

Now, we just want him back in our state. So whatever KG wants, just give it to him.

Just last week, the Pohlads were supposedly pushing the pause button on their pursuit of a sale. Once billionaire Phoenix Suns (and Chicago White Sox) minority owner Justin Ishbia dropped out of the race, the Pohlads haven’t found any other suitors willing to pay their asking price of $1.7 billion.

Obviously, there is one big “elephant in the room” question, after hearing about this extension. What changed the Pohlads’ minds in such a short amount of time? There has to be something causing them to re-engage potential buyers. But what?

For now, we do not know. But logically, there are a couple different reasons that immediately come to mind. Either (a) someone is willing to increase their previous offer or (b) a new suitor has entered the chat. Let’s focus on the latter for the purposes of this article.

If there is another billionaire interested in the Minnesota Twins, who could it be; and why wasn’t this hypothetical rich person (or group) in on the initial round of bids? Billionaires don’t just grow on trees in Minnesota. Is there a super rich person out there who may not have had the liquid cash or availability, but now suddenly have a large amount of both?

Could Glen Taylor be entering the Minnesota Twins ownership fray?

Well actually… have you been paying attention to what is going on a couple blocks away from Target Center? Last week, longtime Minnesota Timberwolves owner, Glen Taylor — who joined the local pro sports ownership fraternity in 1994, exactly one decade after Carl Pohlad — finally gave up on the ownership war he had been waging against Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez.

The next time NBA owners meet, Wolves majority ownership will officially change hands. That’s also the moment, Taylor will be $1.5 billion richer. Once that happens, is it at all possible Taylor and his wife Becky turn their attention to the Minnesota Twins, to fill the void left by his love for the Wolves?

Apparently, we cannot rule it out. Glen’s good buddy (and longtime local sports insider) Charley Walters isn’t willing to rule it out. In fact, he teased Taylor as a possible candidate on Sunday, in his most recent column at the Pioneer Press, correctly noting that Glen “could easily afford to buy the Twins.”

“It remains uncertain whether the Minnesota Twins, who announced in October they would explore selling the team, will be able to find a suitable buyer. Asked recently by the Pioneer Press if there’s a chance the Twins won’t be sold this year after all, Twins owner Jim Pohlad said “there’s always a chance.”

Glen Taylor, who has been working with and around the Pohlad family for decades, is about to have $1 billion dropped into his bank account, as soon as Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez get voted in as Wolves majority owners and their wire transfer clears both banks.

On hypothetical paper, a transition from Pohlad to Taylor would be the smoothest billionaire-to-billionaire transaction in US history. Will it actually happen? Who knows, but the timing certainly is interesting and Glen has been floated as a possible owner for the MN Twins before, including by people who have direct access to him, like Walters.

Should Taylor owning the Twins scare fans?

For Wolves fans who hate Glen Taylor and can’t understand why the Twins fanbase would want him as their owner, you need to first focus on the difference between the NBA and MLB. Taylor’s problems have never revolved around his willingness to invest in the team.

In fact, he’s most notoriously known for that time he tried to invest more in Joe Smith than what was allowed by the salary cap, and he got busted. Taylor has also been willing to pay large luxury tax payments to field a top team in the Western Conference.

Had he come out victorious in the ownership arbitration battle he fought so hard to win, but eventually fell short in, Glen would’ve been on the hook for $90+ million in tax payments at the end of this season. For some context, the Minnesota Twins’ entire payroll in 2024 was $130 million.

So, while there are a few things that would concern me about Glen owning the Twins — like being 83 y/o with questionable health — his willingness to spend money is not one of them.

It all started around this time back in 2021, when news broke that longtime Timberwolves owner, Glen Taylor, had agreed to sell the team to an ownership group headed by Diapers.com founder Marc Lore and infamous Major League Baseball superstar, Alex Rodriguez.

The deal laid out a two-year plan of multiple “tranche” payments that would eventually secure the Lore + A-Rod group 3/4 of the NBA franchise. That was until March 2024, when rumors became reality and Glen Taylor pulled the rug out from underneath the sale, citing missed payments as the reason for voiding the final payment that would have secured Marc Lore his majority share of the team.

That kicked off a legal battle that has been in the news ever since. A couple months ago, we thought we finally got resolution when a three-judge arbitration panel ruled 2-1 in favor of the Lore + A-Rod group, and awarded them legally binding ownership of the Minnesota Timberwolves, pending a final 3/4 NBA Board of Governors approval vote.

But when NBA owners met last week, commissioner Adam Silver told media members that they were unable to vote on the Timberwolves’ majority ownership change because Glen Taylor was still deciding whether or not to appeal the arbitration ruling, something he could only do if he was questioning the integrity of the arbitration panel.

In the end though, Taylor has decided not to fight another legal battle he probably wasn’t going to win. On Wednesday morning, Shams (ESPN) reported that Glen Taylor has decided not to appeal the arbitration ruling and that the NBA will begin the ownership transfer process immediately.

This is huge news for Minnesota Timberwolves fans across the world who have been waiting for Glen Taylor to sell this organization to an ownership group with big dreams and eyes on investing in the future. That doesn’t just mean the roster.

Glen made it apparent these past two or three years that he is willing to pay whatever luxury tax payments necessary to roster championship caliber team. Unfortunately, Taylor’s small town attitude clouded his view of what the Wolves can be and what type of arena they deserve to play in.

Now, with Lore and A-Rod at the helm, we can expect conversations about a new arena to take its place near the top of local news headlines for the foreseeable future. They’ve already been exploring multiple locations for the team’s next arena. How that arena will be funded is still very much up in the air.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been owned by Glen Taylor since 1994, which means he is not the original owner of our favorite NBA franchise, which played its first season in 1989-90, under the founding owners Marv Wolfenson and Harvey Ratner.

In fact, Glen wasn’t really on the radar at all as a possible Timberwolves owner, until after the state of Minnesota failed multiple times to find a savior determined to keep the team local. After only four seasons as Wolves owners, Harv and Marv ran into financial issues.

So, after they failed to secure a deal with the City of Minneapolis to purchase the remaining $73 million owed on Target Center at the time, they sold the team to a new ownership group, an investor firm named “Top Rank”, which had concrete plans in place to move the Timberwolves to New Orleans.

The deal Top Rank + Harv/Marv had agreed to was worth $152 million, which was scheduled to be paid by “$40 million from unknown investors; up to $76.25 million in loans from banks that had yet to make commitments; and $50 million or more from undisclosed sources based on projected revenues from the un-built arena in New Orleans.”

Fortunately, the basketball god were smiling down on Minnesota that day. Because after much deliberation, the league decided to deny the sale of the Timberwolves, which kept the organization in Minneapolis for at least one more season (1994-95).

That time Glen Taylor saved the Minnesota Timberwolves

According to the Wikipedia page on the Wolves failed relocation attempt of 1994, the NBA rejected Top Rank’s offer due to “questions surrounding their financing plan”. The NBA even filed an injunction lawsuit in US District Court against any transfer of the Timberwolves out of Minnesota for at least one year.

But even then, Glen Taylor wasn’t supposed to be the rich guy who swooped in and saved the Minnesota Timberwolves from demise. That was meant to be another local Minneapolis multimillionaire — Bill Sexton, an insurance tycoon and former St. John’s basketball star — was pegged as the man for the job. Panic nearly set in when that deal fell through in August 1994.

Shortly after that, a group headed by Taylor entered the fold. By October, all the paperwork was signed and Glen Taylor was handed the keys Target Center, where he has held courtside seats as the majority owner for the 21 years since. That is until the next time NBA owners gather together and vote in Marc Lore as the third majority owner in Minnesota Timberwolves franchise history.

But the playoffs aren’t the only thing being fought over at Target Center and Mayo Clinic Square. For years now, longtime MN Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor has been locked in a legal battle with Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, who are heading an ownership group he once agreed to sell the organization to.

Back in mid-February, we thought we finally got a resolution to this entire Wolves sale saga. That was when reporters broke the news that, after months of arbitration arguments and hearings, Minnesota Timberwolves ownership had been awarded to the Lore and A-Rod group.

Now, the only thing standing between Marc Lore and majority ownership of the franchise he made his first payment nearly four years ago was an NBA Board of Governors vote, which he is believed to have the votes for.

Glen Taylor still pondering appeal of legally binding arbitration ruling

But not so fast, explained NBA Commissioner Adam Silver on Thursday, while speaking at a press conference to kick off the 2024-2025 end of season Board of Governors meetings. It was believed a vote on the Minnesota Timberwolves ownership change could take place this weekend, while all of the owners were together.

That won’t be happening, though, explained Silver. Why not? Because incumbent owner Glen Taylor is still deciding whether or not to file an appeal of the legally binding arbitration ruling in favor of Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez.

If you are a regular listener of Darren Wolfson‘s scoop sessions on the Mackey & Judd Show on SKOR North, he’s been hinting at a possible appeal from Glen Taylor holding up the finalization of what we thought was an impending Lore + A-Rod takeover.

But, what in the world could Glen Taylor possibly be appealing? That’s where the questions really begin. According to what Wolfson has reported, nobody is totally sure. The only thing that he is believed to be able to appeal is that the independent arbitrator — one very respected Thomas Fraser — was somehow compromised.

The contract calls for the arbitration ruling to be binding. Technically speaking, neither side can appeal. The loser could ask a federal court to vacate the ruling. That generally requires extreme measures for that to be a possibility, such as one side believing a member of the panel was compromised or that the panel acted outside of its authority.

Without knowing the motive or reasoning behind exactly why Taylor is pondering an appeal, it’s hard not to see this as the latest attempt by a remorseful seller who’s going to do absolutely everything within his power to delay this sales process as long as possible.

If the next handful of weeks play out as expected — meaning Glen Taylor doesn’t appeal his lost arbitration decision and the NBA board of governors approves billionaire Marc Lore within the expected timeline (more on that below) — then the Minnesota Timberwolves will have a new majority owner by playoff time.

When that day does come, and Lore + A-Rod take over control of the Minnesota Timberwolves, we can expect some splash moves that are sure to excite the fanbase. But on Sunday morning, longtime local insider Charley Walters (Pioneer Press) gave us a sneak peak into what is likely to be the first “shock and awe” move of the Lore/A-Rod era. And boy oh boy, it’s a doozie.

According to Walters, Wolves legend Kevin Garnett will be hired to work in the Wolves’ front office immediately upon Lore’s majority ownership being made official. This, after he has mostly avoided Target Center for the last decade due to his unyielding hatred for Glen Taylor.

“A little birdie says Kevin Garnett will become part of the Timberwolves’ front office as soon as it’s official that Lore and Rodriguez get ownership.”

Kevin Garnett finally rejoining Wolves for good

Kevin Garnett spent the first 12 seasons of his HOF career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, from 1995 to 2007, stands as the greatest player in franchise history. Anthony Edwards is the only superstar who has come along and even challenged Garnett for that crown.

As a Wolf, “The Big Ticket” averaged 19.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game, leading the Timberwolves to eight consecutive playoff appearances (1997-2004). In 2004, KG won the NBA MVP, after averaging 24.2 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists that season.

Kevin Garnett was named to 9 All-Star teams, 7 All-NBA selections (four First Team, two Second Team, and one Third Team) and 8 All-Defensive Teams (six First Team, two Second Team). His No. 21 jersey was retired by the Timberwolves in 2022.

Expect to see the Kevin Garnett No. 21 jersey raised up too

Unfortunately, thanks to his ongoing beef with Glen Taylor, he’s refused any and all requests to put that jersey up in the rafters of Target Center, where it rightfully belongs. Once Taylor is out, we can expect No. 21 to go up in the rafters almost as quickly as Garnett himself is back in Minnesota Timberwolves facilities.

We do not know exactly when NBA owners will meet next, when a MN Timberwolves majority ownership change is expected to be on the docket. Darren “Doogie” Wolfson reports that late-March would be the earliest. The season ends on April 13, meaning we can expect the vote to take place sometime in the next 1-2 months.

Last year, the 2023-24 end-of-season board of governors meeting took place on the weekend of April 8. To officially pry ownership out of Glen Taylor’s arthritis-ridden fingers, the Lore + A-Rod group needs a 3/4 approval vote from the 30 NBA owners. All reports so far have them reaching the 23 votes they need.
