The Minnesota Gophers turned the page to 2025 after their victory against Virginia Tech in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. They are also going to be well-represented in some of the all-star games.

The Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Bowl are arguably the two premier showings for players looking to compete at the next level. Now Minnesota has a new participant heading to Texas.

MN Gophers cornerback Ethan Robinson to Shrine Bowl

After spending three years at Bucknell, Ethan Robinson transferred to the Gophers hoping to make an impact at the Power 5 level. He turned a strong season into an opportunity for draft features with a spot in the East-West Shrine Bowl.

Robinson played in 13 games for the Gophers this season. The senior collected 29 tackles, including three for losses. He also picked off three passes while generating eight passes defensed. He both forced and recovered a fumble as well.

Despite the loss to Michigan, Robinson’s interception helped to keep the Gophers in the contest. A questionable onside kick ruling took away a shot for the offense to pull off a comeback..

Minnesota has multiple players representing the Gophers at the Shrine Bowl. Robinson joins teammate Tyler Cooper on the East roster. He will have the opportunity to play against the quarterback he has seen all year in practice as Max Brosmer is on the west roster.

The Shrine Bowl is set to take place on January 30, 2025 in Arlington, Texas. The game is played at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Gophers Add Three More Transfer Commits to Cap Active First Week in Portal https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/gophers-football/minnesota-gophers-transfer-portal-commits-ethan-robinson-trent-howland-eddy-toussom/ Mon, 11 Dec 2023 16:47:24 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=45619 PJ Fleck and the Gopher football staff have been actively engaging with the transfer portal since it opened on December 4th.  The Gophers recently secured commitments from Max Brosmer, a quarterback from New Hampshire, and FIU defensive tackle, Jordan Guerad.

PJ Fleck, Minnesota Gophers add three more transfer portal commits

But on Sunday, the transfer portal commits continued to roll in when Fleck and Co added three more ready-to-play talents at CB, RB and LB, bringing their total portal acquisitions to five.

(CB) Ethan Robinson – Bucknell

Ethan Robinson, a transfer from Bucknell, committed after visiting Dinkytown this weekend. Robinson had offers from various schools, including Auburn and USC.

Robinson is from New Rochelle, NY and graduated from Iona Preparatory School. He played two seasons at Bucknell (31 games) where he accumulated 154 tackles, 25 pass breakups, and 5 interceptions and he has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Robinson caught the eye of Power 5 programs with a fantastic 2023 season, earning a spot on the All-Patriot League first team. He is listed at 6’0″, 175 LBS and the Gophers hope he can play a key role alongside returning veteran, Justin Walley.

(RB) Trent Howland | Indiana

Trent Howland, who led the Indiana Hoosiers in rushing last season, will come to Minnesota with two years of eligibility left. He’s from Joliet, IL and graduated from Joliet West in 2021. Howland was a three star recruit out of high school, and he was recruited by Fleck and Minnesota, before eventually committing to Indiana.

Trent’s sophomore season was his best with the Hoosiers. He carried the ball 75 times for 354 yards and 2 touchdowns. He’s beefy, listed at 6-3, 240 lbs, and owned short yardage opportunities for Indiana last season. The Gophers hope he can be the two-punch behind Darius Taylor’s one and will absolutely boost running back room that still looks thin.

Who is OLB Eddy Toussom?

The Gophers capped off Sunday with a commitment from Eddy Toussom, an athletic outside linebacker out of Navarro College (JUCO) in Texas. He should give Minnesota an instant shot of talent and depth at the position next season.

Originally from Waller, TX, Toussom led Navarro in both sacks (8) and tackles for loss (15), to go along with an impressive 55 tackles for an outside pass rush-first linebacker but his 2023 highlights show he can do so much more than that. The 6-5, 240 LB beast will also have two years of eligibility remaining.
