McCarthy will become the man. For quite some time it was Daunte Culpepper that was the man, and he recently answered some fan questions.

Before there was a Brett Favre cameo, or a Kirk Cousins stint, it was Daunte Culpepper constantly hooking up with Randy Moss for deep touchdowns. He quickly became a fan-favorite, and while his play earned him a Madden cover, it was his “roll on” celebration that was often repeated.

Daunte Culpepper reveals where Minnesota Vikings “Roll on” came from

Appearing on a Monday Morning Mailbag segment produced by the Minnesota Vikings, fan-favorite Daunte Culpepper offered his presence. Taking a handful of questions from fans, the first focused on his “get your roll on” celebration. Describing where it came from, Culpepper went into great detail.

In summary, he came up with it for his buddies at Cash Money Records — you know, Lil Wayne, Birdman and one of the most popular rap record labels of the past three decades — taking the idea from one of their songs at the time, “Get Your Roll On”, by Big Tymers.

I have some friends of mine that were in the music business, Cash Money Records. Baby (Bryan “Baby” Williams) and Lil Wayne. They were in The Hot Boyz, but Cash Money Records had a song called “Get Your Roll On,” and the owner of that record company was a good friend of mine, and every time I would see him, he’d say, “Pep,’ go out there and get your roll on.” So it became my celebration, so thank you. I remember throwing a touchdown and I did the celebration. I got my roll on, and it kind of took off from there. People liked it and I liked it. It was an example of having fun and enjoying yourself. That was pretty much it. It became a staple. Even if I’m walking through an airport and see a fan, they’re still like, ‘Get your roll on, Pep.’ That kind of stuck with me. I just thought it was great.

Former Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper on his “Get Your Roll On” celebration

Of course, the celebration is something that fans often observed Culpepper doing as he ran down the field to greet Moss after hauling in a deep touchdown. It’s also a celebration he pulled out after rumbling for a first down, and he had the presence of a star running back that could also throw the ball.

Minnesota Vikings new celebrations rival Daunte Culpepper’s “roll on”

It’s great to see fans still clamoring for the presence of Culpepper. He has been, and will continue to be, a fan favorite. That can also be said about current star wide receiver Justin Jefferson. The highest-paid non-quarterback has a few notable celebrations of his own, and they too have drawn fans in.

Jefferson hits “The Griddy” each time he grabs the ball in the end zone, and while it is also replicated by the Bengals Ja’Marr Chase, it has definitely become synonymous with Jefferson. His patented first down arrow-point is also something that Vikings fans have taken notice of, and both celebrations are routinely shown off in Madden when the superstar completes either feat.

ESPN Ranks J.J. McCarthy’s Supporting Cast Behind Caleb Williams’ and… Daunte Culpepper’s https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/minnesota-vikings-jj-mccarthy-ranking/ Sat, 25 May 2024 21:01:28 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=51328 The Minnesota Vikings finally have that new shiny toy again, and his name is J.J. McCarthy. McCarty was drafted 10th overall to the Vikings in the 2024 NFL draft. McCarthy is now the highest drafted quarterback in franchise history, surpassing Daunte Culpepper who was drafted 11th overall in the 1999 NFL Draft.

McCarthy lands in an offense filled with talent, and one NFL Analyst, Aaron Schatz (ESPN), recently put together a ranked list of the best NFL supporting casts for rookie top-12 QB draft picks since 1990. Minnesota’s new quarterback was ranked very high on the list… but not as high as 2024 No. 1 overall pick, Caleb Williams… or the aforementioned Culpepper.

J.J. McCarthy’s supporting cast with Minnesota Vikings ranks top-5 since 1990

McCarthy starts his career with a great pair of receivers. Justin Jefferson might be the best receiver in the league right now, while Jordan Addison had 70 catches for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie. After that, Brandon Powell and Trent Sherfield are trustworthy veterans.

Tight end T.J. Hockenson had a career-high 960 receiving yards last season despite missing the final 2 games. Running back Aaron Jones comes over from the rival Packers, and although he had only 656 rushing yards in 11 games last season, he did have 1,121 in 2022. Backup Ty Chandler had 461 rushing yards on 4.5 yards per carry in 2023. The Vikings’ offensive line is very strong, particularly with tackles Christian Darrisaw and Brian O’Neill. McCarthy is set up for success as soon as he enters the starting lineup.

Aaron Schatz – NFL Analyst for ESPN

Schatz highlights the many offensive weapons surrounding McCarthy. He specifically mentions Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson, Aaron Jones, Ty Chandler, Christian Darrisaw, and Brian O’Neill. Many of which are arguably the best players at their respective positions.

Not only is McCarthy surrounded by elite talent on offense, he also has one of the most quarterback friendly, forward thinking offensive minds in the NFL as his head coach. The only quarterbacks since 1990 that Schatz believes was drafted into better situations than McCarthy are Matt Leinart, Caleb Williams and… Daunte Culpepper coming at No. 1.

  1. Daunte Culpepper – 1999 Minnesota Vikings (No. 11 overall)
  2. Caleb Williams – 2024 Chicago Bears (No. 1 overall)
  3. Matt Leinart – 2006 Arizona Cardinals (No. 10 overall)
  4. J.J. McCarthy – 2024 Minnesota Vikings (No. 10 overall)
  5. Justin Fields – 2021 Chicago Bears (No. 11 overall)

I mean, how could Daunte Culpepper not be No. 1? He had Randy Moss, Cris Carter, and Jake Reed at receiver. Robert Smith and Leroy Hoard at running back. Plus, three Minnesota offensive lineman made the Pro Bowl in 1998.

Culpepper did not throw a pass in his rookie season, though. He got his shot as a sophomore, and took over the QB reins in 2000. He started 16 games that next year, throwing for 3900 yards and 37 touchdowns, in one of the most prolific QB seasons in Vikings history.

At this point, it’s unclear when McCarthy will take over the starting quarterback role. The Vikings appear intent on having McCarthy sit for at least some period of time, so he can develop and learn behind Sam Darnold. At this stage of the offseason, McCarthy is doing most of his work at practice as Minnesota’s QB3.

We’re not even to training camp, which will begin in late-July, so take everything you read with a grain of salt. McCarthy’s time will come and when it does, he’ll be surrounded with some of the best offensive talent at various positions as well as a head coach who played quarterback in the NFL.

Coming Soon: Documentary on 2005 Vikings’ Love Boat Scandal from Barstool Sports https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/coming-soon-documentary-2005-vikings-love-boat-scandal-barstool-sports/ https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/coming-soon-documentary-2005-vikings-love-boat-scandal-barstool-sports/#respond Fri, 19 Jan 2018 13:33:50 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=7201

This type of shit is par for the course. When you start blowing up like our 2017-18 Minnesota Vikings, people are going to air out your dirty laundry. That’s the way todays internet driven world works.

No Purple laundry is dirtier, pun intended, than that associated with the 2005 Love Boat Scandal. The vast majority of Skol Nation is acclimated with the infamous true story of the Lake Minnetonka sex party. Barstool Sports’ upcoming documentary will once again shed light on a dark day in Vikings’ history.

FYI – Cover your ears, kids

Our viewpoints on the pending release of the above short film may drastically differ. Before I express my stance, I want to convey that I DO NOT condone what happened that evening. With that piece of information said, get your popcorn ready. Like Bart Scott, can’t wait.

In no way, shape, or form should you be concerned about this release making the Vikings look bad. The actual event took place over a dozen years ago. The New England Patriots are considered by many as the greatest thing since sliced bread. Aaron Hernandez was on their team in 2013. During that time, the former NFL TE was smoking joints with a guy one second, and murdering him the next. They’re fine. We’re fine.

“We had $80,000. For one night, one party” – Fred Smoot

As confirmed by Smoot, our former DB was the “mastermind” behind the operation. The party took place on October 6, 2005. At the time of the incident, the StarTribune reported 17 Minnesota players present on either one of the two yachts. After complaints from crew members regarding being offered money for sex and concern for their own safety, what was to be a 3.5 hour journey was cut short after just 40 minutes.

In regards to what EXACTLY took place during that short period of time on the water, I’ll let the people over at Barstool take care of that realm. After spending the last couple of hours re-educating myself on the incident, just a heads up, shit gets aggressive.

If you don’t believe me, then wait for the Bryant Mckinnie details when the documentary is released on 1/23/2018. Thus far, there is no indication that it will be available for viewing outside of the media company’s website or app.

The aftermath from the Love Boat Scandal included four Vikings’ players receiving misdemeanor charges. The crimes, which ranged from indecent conduct, disorderly conduct and lewd or lascivious conduct were brought forth against Smoot, Mckinnie, Daunte Culpepper, and Moe Williams.

If it’s not Minnesota sports or news/crime related, I’m not watching it. The good folks involved in the production of Game of Thrones seem to be doing just fine without my support. This soon to be released documentary is going to involve all three of my preferred topics. In the State of Hockey, I believe that’d be referred to as a hat-trick.

In case you forgot, the 2005 Minnesota Vikings had a hat-trick of their own: Love Boat Scandal, Ontario Smith Whizzinator, and the Mike Tice ticket scalping fiasco.

Rather than illegally sell his Super Bowl Tickets, Mike Zimmer is taking a different approach than our former HC. Rather than avoiding the big game, he’s trying to take the entire franchise…… and he doesn’t have to travel far.

#SKOL

It’s Our Time. Finally. #SKOL

We’ve waited a long time, #SKOL Nation.

But now, it’s time to “pick the world up and drop it on its F*&^ing head”.
