But overall, the season ended on a high note. Taking down the Badgers in Madison to reclaim the axe was the perfect way to close out what turned out to be a solid year.

The Gophers have one more game left this season, a bowl game, with details like the opponent, date, and location being determined this week. It’ll be exciting to see who they face next and where the matchup takes place.

Where do the Minnesota Gophers rank in the CFB 134?

After wrapping up the regular season and all 12 games, where do the Gophers stand in the rankings? Surprisingly, they’re sitting higher than you might expect. Chris Vannini, a college football insider for The Athletic, ranks all 134 FBS teams, and in his latest rankings, he’s bumped the Gophers up a few spots.

  • 35 – Texas Tech
  • 36 – Duke
  • 37 – Iowa
  • 38 – TCU
  • 39 – Minnesota
  • 40 – Louisiana

Last week, the Gophers were ranked 42nd, but they’ve climbed into the top 40, landing at 39th. They now rank as the fourth-best 7-5 team, trailing Michigan, Georgia Tech, and Florida, who sit at 31st, 32nd, and 33rd respectively. This ranking seems pretty fair.

For comparison, Fox Sports college football analyst RJ Young dropped his top 134 rankings, and honestly, the Gophers got hit with a pretty disrespectful spot.

Young ranked the Gophers at 65, placing them just behind USC, a team the Gophers actually beat. In fact, it makes you wonder if Young had any clue what he was doing when putting this list together.

Why do the Minnesota Gophers rank 39th?

Why are the Gophers sitting at 39th in Vannini’s rankings? Well, they’ve earned it by taking down a couple of ranked teams this season, including Illinois and USC. Plus, they nearly pulled off a massive upset against No. 4 Penn State, falling short by just one point.

However, another huge factor was transfer QB Max Brosmer, who’s now cemented himself as one of the Gopher greats. Brosmer racked up 2,617 passing yards this season, the seventh-most in a single season in Gopher history. He’s only behind Tanner Morgan, Adam Weber (three times), Mitch Leidner, and Bryan Cupito on that list.

It’s going to be exciting to watch Brosmer shoot up the rankings during the bowl game. The big question is whether he can crack the top three, or maybe even grab the second spot. One thing’s for sure, the team will miss him on the field next year.
