Well… kind of. According to our very own Ted Schwerzler, 25-year-old right-hander Travis Adams will make his Major League pitching debut tomorrow afternoon at Target Field against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Minnesota Twins calling up Travis Adams (again) for MLB debut

Adams’ first pitch Saturday will be his first in the big leagues, but it’s not his first call-up. That came at the start of last month. His initial promotion, however, did not end in a debut. Instead, Adams was sent back down to triple A without ever seeing the MLB mound.

Travis Adams throws a mid-90s fastball, along with a cutter, sinker, slider and changeup. He’ll even sprinkle in a curveball too. With the Saints this season, the Sacramento State alum holds a 3.68 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 63.2 innings pitched.

The Minnesota Twins drafted Adams with the 189th overall pick (6th round) in the 2021 MLB Draft. In his 5 professional seasons, Adams has thrown 402.1 total innings, posting a 4.41 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and a 8.59 K/BB ratio.

It’s unclear at this point whether or not Travis Adams will start this weekend. He’s worked in both a long relief and starter role for the Saints. He’s started five games so far this summer down in St. Paul.

Royce Lewis is Back and Starting in Center Field https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-twins/royce-lewis-is-back-with-minnesota-twins-center-field/ Sun, 29 May 2022 16:07:04 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=39172 Many fans, media members and even teammates were distraught when the Minnesota Twins sent rookie shortstop, Royce Lewis, back down to Triple-A, after Carlos Correa was deemed healthy and taken off the Injured List. But just over one week later, after testing out a couple of different positions in St. Paul, Lewis is back across the river in the Target Field clubhouse.

Not only is Royce Lewis in the lineup this afternoon, to finish the home series vs Kansas City, but he’s starting in center field. Buxton will DH. Audra Martin (Bally Sports North) broke the news first, before the local beat writers confirmed and the lineups dropped 20 minutes later.

Great Expectations

After today’s game, Royce will jump on the Twins’ Charter plane to Detroit for a 5-game (4-day) series vs the Tigers, before going to Toronto for three more. Lewis played a handful of games at defensive positions other than SS, including one game in center field, after his demotion (3B – 2 GMS), (LF – 2 GMS), (CF – 1 GM).

Expectations will be much higher for Royce Lewis, in his second MLB stint. That’s what happens when you hit .308 with an .889 OPS in your first 11-game showing. He’ll have to handle those expectations while playing a few different positions.

I’d expect plenty of outfield today and vs Detroit this week. Anything can happen when the Minnesota Twins jump the border to play their series in Toronto because we do not yet know who, from the Twins roster, will be allowed in Canada who won’t. Jose Miranda was optioned to make room for Lewis on the roster.

Update:

Royce Lewis injured his knee in the 3rd inning Sunday, performing a highlight reel catch in centerfield. It was Royce’s first toe-to-toe battle with the Target Field wall and, like many of his predecessors, he came out on the losing end. At least he caught it, right?

After further evaluation following a Minnesota Twins 7-3 victory over the Royals, Lewis’ injury was diagnosed a bone bruise and he was placed on the 10-day injured list.

Twins Call Royce Lewis Up to Big Leagues https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-twins/minnesota-twins-call-royce-lewis-up-to-big-leagues/ Fri, 06 May 2022 14:28:12 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=38950 On Thursday night, Carlos Correa was hit by two pitches against the Baltimore Orioles. Not only did the Minnesota Twins lose their second straight game, but they lost their superstar shortstop to a broken middle finger. Now, on Friday morning, the Twins have called up much anticipated top prospect, Royce Lewis, to fill in while he’s out.

We do not know how long Correa’s IL stint will be. Hopefully, weeks and not months. Until the 2012 #1 overall draft pick is ready to return, it’ll be the #1 overall pick in the 2017 draft who will fill his void at shortstop.

Yes, Lewis has struggled with injuries that have hampered the beginning of what we all hope is a successful career. But he’s been healthy through 24 games so far in 2022. And the results have been marvelous.

Across the river, Royce Lewis is hitting .310, with 3 HR, 11 2B and 11 RBI. His OPS is .993. If left to dominate AAA pitching in St. Paul all summer, the California kid would have competed for MiLB Player of the Year. Hopefully, Correa returns in time to give him that chance.

Until then, let’s see Royce Lewis is ready for the Big Leagues.
