With plenty of free agent and rookie additions made over the past few months, the roster as it currently sits, will be the MN Vikings as we know them next season. Of course, there will be a ton of moving and shaking happening around the edges of the depth chart between now and then too.

Minnesota Vikings sign OL Vershon Lee

Vershon Lee played 51 games (40 starts) over five seasons at South Carolina, before going undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft. Nonetheless, he got a tryout with the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday and clearly impressed those in attendance. Friday afternoon, he was signed, taking safety Bubba Bolden’s spot on the roster.

It remains to be seen where Lee will factor into the Minnesota Vikings OL plans, but they obviously liked what they saw from him on Thursday. Heading into training camp, the offensive front will feature three new starters this season.

Will Fries and Donovan Jackson take over at the guard spots while Ryan Kelly is stepping in as the Vikings new center. Blake Brandel and Walter Rouse are the likely backups as bookends which means Lee — who wore No. 53 in college for the Gamecocks — will be competing with a group more focused on adding to the interior.

What was your favorite Bubba Bolden + Vikings moment

It wasn’t that long ago that Bubba Bolden became the very first free agent signed by the purple, back in March, when the free agency bell first rang. Now, he’s out. The safety position will be one to watch this year for Brian Flores’ defense.

Cam Bynum took his talents to Indianapolis, and Minnesota promoted Theo Jackson to the starting lineup. With Harrison Smith and Josh Metellus back, Bubba Bolden’s depth must’ve been deemed unnecessary, after watching him workout this spring.

The Minnesota Vikings kick off their preseason schedule on August 9th with a home game against the Houston Texans. They host the New England Patriots the following week and will have joint practices with Mike Vrabel’s squad.

Vikings Make Underwhelming Signing at Safety https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/minnesota-vikings-news/signing-bubba-bolden-nfl-free-agency/ Mon, 10 Mar 2025 22:35:10 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=61173 The Minnesota Vikings have been unsuspectedly quiet through the first six or seven hours of the NFL negotiating period. With dozens of the best free agents already off the board, the Vikings have very little to show for all the big talk they were doing about being aggressive at the start of free agency.

But, they have agreed to terms or signed a couple of free agents in their secondary this afternoon. First, they signed career backup Isaiah Rodgers (Eagles) to a starting level contract worth a total of $15 million. He will slot into the cornerback room somewhere below CB1, depending on who else the MN Vikings can sign to help slow opposing passing attacks in 2025.

Minnesota Vikings sign depth safety, Bubba Bolden

Their only other signing so far is at safety, but not the type of safety that the Vikings hope to slot into their starting defense, in place of the now departed Cam Bynum. Instead, they signed 25-year-old safety Bubba Bolden, who brings zero games of NFL regular season experience to TCO Performance Center.

The former Miami Hurricane CB most recent playing experience was in the UFL as a member of the Birmingham Stallions. In College, Bolden played in 13 games at USC as a freshman in 2017 — 7 tackles, 0 INT, 0 passes defended — before transferring to Miami (FL) before the 2019 season.

In three collegiate seasons with the Hurricanes (2019-2021), Bubba Bolden totalled 85 tackles, 11 TFL, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions and 6 passes defended. He also forced four fumbles in 2020, by far his best collegiate season.
