The NFL negotiating period got off to a slow start on early Monday. But over the past 24 hours, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has kicked the activity into overdrive, agreeing to terms Tuesday morning with three top 15 free agentsJonathan Allen, Will Fries and Javon Hargrave — all in a matter of hours.

But after Daniel Jones walked in free agency, for an easier starting opportunity with the Indianapolis Colts, questions remain over who the Vikings will bring in as a veteran QB, to pair with medical redshirt rookie QB, JJ McCarthy in training camp.

There are a handful of good backup-type options available, but there has been some chatter about the MN Vikings pivoting their 2025 quarterback plans one more time, given there’s a 1st ballot hall of fame QB still on the market and some insiders have even suggested that Aaron Rodgers is holding off on signing anywhere else, while he waits (and hopes) for the Vikings to call.

Brett Favre’s urges Aaron Rodgers to sign with the Vikings if he get the chance…

Well… Tuesday afternoon, a fellow former NFL quarterback offered his advice to Rodgers. And A-Rodg might want to pay attention because nobody knows what Aaron is going through more than Brett Favre, who went from the Packers to the Jets to the Vikings over a decade ago.

Brett’s two cents came via the Will Cain Show (FOX News). When asked what his fellow Packer alum should do, Favre urged Rodgers to take advantage of any opportunity he gets to play with the Minnesota Vikings. He cited the Vikings loaded roster and “tremendous fanbase” in his reasoning.

Cain: “There’s talk that Aaron Rodgers has not ruled out the Vikings, which is the exact same path you walked. What would you say to Aaron if he is thinking about signing with the Vikings?”

Favre: “By all means, sign [with] them. They got a really good football team, they’re loaded at pretty much every position, they made it to the playoffs last year and they have a tremendous fanbase, much like the Packers. You know, if he gets the opportunity, that’s a good place to win. Plus, you get to play the Packers then.”

Cain: “I was gonna say, we do know the relationship between Vikings fans and the Packers.”

Favre: “Yeah, a love/hate relationship, at its best. That’s what makes it such a great rivalry. I got to see it from both sides and it made me appreciate the rivalry even more. If he gets an opportunity, then why not, if they ask him?

Favre asking for Minnesota Vikings deja vu

In his two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, from 2009-2010, Brett Favre threw for 6,711 yards, 44 touchdowns and 26 interceptions, but those stats are misleading. Favre’s first season as a Viking was one of the best QB seasons in team history (4,202 yards, 33 touchdowns, 7 interceptions). The next year… went the other way.

After leaving the Green Bay Packers two offseasons ago, Aaron Rodgers has spent the past two years of his NFL career trying to keep his head above career drowning waters in New York, with the Jets. But now, he is back on the market searching for the final home of his now 20-year NFL career.

If he really is waiting out the Minnesota Vikings, that is a smart decision. From what has been reported, the other two options are the Giants and Steelers, neither of which has a roster that is ready to compete for a Super Bowl in 2025, like the Vikings. Now, is Kevin O’Connell as enamored by Rodgers, as he likely is in the Vikings?

It doesn’t sound like it… but that can always change. Even the most serious reporters around town have been slow to completely rule out a scenario where the 4X NFL MVP lands in purple. I mean, who would say no to this all over again?

Are the 2024 New York Jets a Reincarnation of the 2010 Minnesota Vikings? https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/minnesota-vikings-news/2024-jets-2010-vikings-comparison/ Tue, 15 Oct 2024 22:23:32 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=56167 The Minnesota Vikings are sitting at 5-0 after their bye week and are gearing up for a huge matchup against the 4-1 Detroit Lions. They’re coming off a big win over the New York Jets in London on October 6th, and honestly, this year’s Jets kind of remind me of the 2010 Vikings.

Shoutout to Phil Mackey for pointing this out on today’s SKOR North episode. After the huge news that superstar WR Davante Adams is being traded to the New York Jets, Mackey made a solid point about this year’s Jets team.

The New York Jets continued their reliving of the 2010 Minnesota Vikings season, where you’ve got an over-the-hill, 40-plus-year-old quarterback trying to relive the glory days. This team is desperate to make up for the disappointment of the previous season. In the Vikings’ case, it was getting to the doorstep of the Super Bowl, while in the Jets’ case, it was blowing out your Achilles on the first snap, leading to dissension in the locker room and the firing of a coach. To complete all these similarities, both teams made desperate trades—Minnesota sent a third-round pick to acquire over-the-hill star wide receiver Randy Moss in 2010, and now the Jets have brought in Davante Adams. I think both teams also started 2-4, so their records are very similar too.

Phil Mackey – SKOR North

The New York Jets are literally recreating the 2010 Minnesota Vikings season

Davante Adams is reuniting with Aaron Rodgers, but not in Green Bay. This time, it’s happening in New York with Rodgers’ current team, the New York Jets, who’ve been having a rough season so far. After a Monday night loss to the Buffalo Bills, they’re now sitting at 2-4.

With that said, we can now officially compare them to the 2010 Minnesota Vikings, who also made a big trade for a star receiver that season. But that’s just the start, here’s a list of similarities between the 2010 Vikings and the 2024 Jets.

  1. HOF Quarterback Dependence
  2. Desperate Big-Time Receiver Trade
  3. High Expectations
  4. Head Coach Firing
  5. Coming Off Devastating Previous Seasons
  6. Started 2-4

1. HOF Quarterback Dependence

In 2010, the Minnesota Vikings were in their second season with Hall of Fame QB Brett Favre, who, nearing the end of his career, was as desperate as ever for another Super Bowl win before eventually retiring after the 2010 season.

Related: Minnesota Vikings vs Detroit Lions is a DVOA Dream

Fast forward to today, and we’re seeing a similar situation with the Jets. Aaron Rodgers, now 40, is in his second season with the team, hoping for one last deep playoff run to add another Super Bowl to his Hall of Fame legacy. Just like Favre, Rodgers played and won a Super Bowl with the Packers early in their careers.

2. Desperate Big-Time Receiver Trade

Back in 2010, the legendary Randy Moss, who was with the New England Patriots at the time, was traded to the struggling Minnesota Vikings after a rough 1-2 start. The Vikings were desperate to revive their offense and hoped bringing back Moss, where he made his name, would do the trick.

Today, the New York Jets, fresh off a primetime loss, make a similar desperate move by trading for one of the top receivers in the league, Davante Adams. Not only that, but they’re reuniting him with his old teammate, Aaron Rodgers, a duo that won plenty of games together. This feels like another deja vu moment, drawing comparisons to the 2010 Vikings.

3. High Expectations

Coming off an overtime loss in the NFC Championship the year before, the Vikings entered the 2010 season with sky-high expectations. Many believed they could make a return to the NFC Championship, and even have a shot at winning the Super Bowl, yet they ultimately missed the playoffs entirely.

On the other hand, the Jets came into the season with Super Bowl aspirations, thanks to a fully healthy Aaron Rodgers and a strong defense. However, they’ve struggled so far, starting the season 2-4. There’s still time to turn things around, but given the parallels to the 2010 Vikings season, things might not end well for them.

4. Head Coach Firing

Even after reaching the NFC Championship the previous season, the Minnesota Vikings opted for a change at head coach after Week 11, when their record stood at 3-7. While this late-season decision added to an already disastrous year, it reflected their struggle to turn things around.

Related: 4 Bold Predictions for Minnesota Vikings’ Week 7 Matchup vs Lions

In a similar situation, the Jets also fired their coach, but they did so much earlier in the season, following a 2-3 start. Ironically, this move came right after a loss to the Vikings. It was evident that the Jets weren’t rallying behind their coach, echoing the turmoil the Vikings faced back in 2010.

5. Coming Off Devastating Previous Seasons

The Minnesota Vikings faced a tough NFC Championship loss to New Orleans, with Brett Favre just inches away from leading the team to the Super Bowl in his first season. That near-miss raised the bar for the following year.

On the other hand, the Jets had a rough start when Aaron Rodgers stepped onto the field for his debut. Just a few plays in, he got injured and was ruled out for the entire season. Fans were eagerly awaiting his return this season, which feels reminiscent of the Vikings’ situation back in 2010.

6. Started 2-4

Another interesting coincidence with both teams is that they both started off 2-4. While the Jets still have a lot of season left to play, the fact that their records are lining up in such a similar way could hint at what’s ahead for them this season. Only time will tell how it all unfolds.

I think it’s really intriguing how the seasons are so similar almost identical, in fact. The Jets still have plenty of time left this season, and it’ll be interesting to see if they can make a comeback, unlike the 2010 Vikings.

Brett Favre Reportedly Got Brad Childress Fired as Vikings HC
From a Deer Stand https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/minnesota-vikings-news/brett-favre-got-brad-childress-fired-from-a-deer-stand/ Sat, 12 Oct 2024 17:55:52 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=56027 Remember Brad Childress? He’s not in the NFL anymore, with his final season coming in 2019 as a senior offensive assistant of the Chicago Bears. But Minnesota Vikings fans won’t forget his tenure as head coach from 2006 to 2010.

He led the Vikings to a 39-35 record, which included two trips to the postseason, where he went 1-2. His best season, by far, was 2009, when Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre joined the Vikings’ voyage. Fans of the purple and gold all across the nation felt like it was finally their year, only to see the 40-year-old throw across his body for a game-sealing interception in the NFC Championship Game loss to the Bountygate Saints.

Then, the following year, Childress was fired after Week 11 following a 3-7 start to the season. Leslie Frazier took over on an interim basis before becoming the full-time coach for three seasons. While we know a 3-7 start was not what the Vikings expected from “Chilly,” now we know the real reason Childress got fired.

Former NFL player shares how Brett Favre got Brad Childress fired from Vikings

Brace Hemmelgarn-Imagn Images

Recently, former Packers tight end Mark Chmura, who spent his entire seven-year NFL career catching passes from Brett Favre in Green Bay, told a wild story about his former quarterback. According to Chmura, it was actually Favre who got Brad Childress fired back in 2010, and he did it all from a deer stand. Here’s what he had to say while speaking on the Jen, Gabe & Chewy show on ESPN Milwaukee earlier this week.

“Second year, they’re not playing as well. Chilly (Childress) goes up to him and says ‘I’m gonna pull you out of the game.’ And we all know No. 4, he thinks he can come back from 100 points. And I don’t blame the guy one bit. He said no. And they got into a fight on the sideline. Chilly’s replacing Brett, Brett runs onto the field, says ‘you’re not replacing me.’ Plays the rest of the game, get into a huge fight after the game. Brett’s in a deer stand on Tuesday. Zygi Wilf calls him up and is like ‘what should I do?’ And Brett said ‘fire his ass.’ What’s Zygi Wilf do? Fires him.”

Mark Chmura on how Brett Favre got Brad Childress fired

The topic only came up because of the Jets’ surprising decision to fire coach Robert Saleh after their loss to the Vikings in London. Chmura felt Aaron Rodgers did indeed play a role in his coach’s firing, and he used this example of his former teammate doing the same to Childress as his reasoning.

But why was Week 11 the final straw for Childress in Minnesota? Because the Vikings had just gotten blown out 31-3 to the Packers on Sunday, two days before being fired. For what it’s worth, the Vikings did win their next two games. Joe Webb and Tarvaris Jackson both got to start later in the season, but only after Favre suffered a shoulder sprain.

So, now you know how Brett Favre once had Brad Childress fired from his deer stand. Is there anything more Minnesotan than that?

Brett Favre Has Parkinson’s https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/minnesota-vikings-news/brett-favre-parkinsons-diagnoses/ Tue, 24 Sep 2024 15:52:04 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=55368 Brett Favre tormented the Minnesota Vikings for years as the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. After a brief stop in New York, he then thrilled Minnesota fans as the Vikings quarterback. His post-playing career has taken many twists and turns. Now he’s dealing with a new battle of his own.

Minnesota Vikings Brett Favre reveals sad diagnosis

Over the past handful of years Brett Favre has been involved with a case in Mississippi involving illegal use of welfare funds. During a Congressional hearing before the House Ways and Means Committee, the former Minnesota Vikings quarterback revealed that he has Parkinson’s disease.

“Sadly, I also lost an investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others. And I’m sure you’ll understand why it’s too late for me, because I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. This is also a cause dear to my heart.”

Brett Favre during a congressional hearing (ESPN)

Parkinson’s disease is a brain disorder that causes movement problems and other health issues as parts of the organ deteriorate. There is currently no cure for Parkinson’s disease. Muhammad Ali, Michael J. Fox, and Neil Diamond are some of the most famous individuals to suffer from the disease.

Of course Favre played a violent sport and his brain experience significant trauma while on the football field. Back in 2018 Favre suggested that while he only knew of three or four concussions, he could have suffered thousands over the course of his career. He took notable hits against the Chicago Bears at TCF Bank Stadium, and the New Orleans Saints during Bountygate.

Hopefully Favre can find success with some of the treatments available to patients diagnose with Parkinson’s. At just 54 years old, he still has a significant amount of life to live. Favre’s wife Deanna was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. The couple has a pair of daughters, Brittany and Breleigh.

Atrocities Committed Against Vikings in ’09 NFC Championship Far Worse Than You Remember https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/referee-atrocities-against-minnesota-vikings-in-09-nfc-championship-far-worse-than-you-remember-new-orleans-saints/ Thu, 29 Sep 2022 19:31:43 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=40579 In 2009, the New Orleans Saints won a Super Bowl that they never should’ve been a part of. Two weeks earlier, they were vastly outplayed by the Minnesota Vikings, in one of the most memorable NFC Championships in NFL history.

Sure, Brett Favre threw THE interception and Adrian Peterson fumbled 174 times, but everybody knows it was the referees who made that infamous postseason game competitive. Hell, Sean Payton was suspended for a full season because of the paid assault the Saints defense was allowed to commit against Favre.

The NFL and their referee minions

Still, most do not remember just how badly the Minnesota Vikings were wronged that late January night. It wasn’t just the Bountygate scandal or the hits that Favre took. In fact, I’d say that part was the least of Minnesota’s series of unfortunate events that night. Let’s go back and look at the tape.

The Bountygate investigation got Sean Payton a movie deal and made the Brett Favre sandwich an iconic moment in league history. The phantom Ben Leber pass interference penalty is hard to forget too, especially if you listen to KFAN, where Leber is a regular contributor.

The atrocities you may not remember.

But earlier in their game-winning overtime drive, the Saints faced a critical 4th and 1, just inside of Vikings territory. Pierre Thomas leaped over the line and Chad Greenway’s helmet met the football while he Thomas was in mid-air. The resulting fumble pushed the Saints’ offense back behind the line to gain. Easy call, right? Wrong, even after booth review, the 1st down stood and New Orleans’ game-winning drive to continued.

Oh, you have a steel trap memory and remember all of this? Well, what about the zebras’ knockout blow that night? On 2nd and 14, Robert Meechum clearly dropped a pass from Drew Brees, that pushed the Saints into easy game-winning field goal range.

Yet again, the Vikings got their booth review. Yet again, it didn’t matter. Only one team was going to win that night and it wasn’t the one coming from Minnesota. So with Vikings vs Saints (London Edition) upon us this weekend, it’s important we remember the historic football atrocity levied at us back in 2009. #NeverForget

Surprise: Kirk Cousins is Not Brett Favre https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/kirk-cousins-brett-favre-minnesota-vikings-george-paton-russell-wilson/ Tue, 10 May 2022 00:54:55 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=38962 Hello Minnesota Vikings fans, happy Monday. It’s a new week, so naturally, we were overdue for another controversial day of infighting over our starting quarterback, Kirk Cousins. The spark that lit this week’s fuse?

Mike Florio (ProFootballTalk.com) wrote a blog based on his interview with Denver Broncos general manager, George Paton, formerly a decade-long assistant GM for the Vikings. This offseason, in case you didn’t hear, Paton traded the Broncos’ future for Russell Wilson.

In his chat with Florio, George compared Wilson’s early presence and lift, inside the Denver locker room, to that of another free agent quarterback signed one memorable offseason while Paton was in Minnesota. Not 2018 Kirk Cousins, but 2009 Brett Favre.

Back in 2009, George Paton was the Vikings’ director of player personnel. He would get promoted to assistant GM in 2012, when his long-time friend and colleague, Rick Spielman, is named general manager (and undisputed top dog in the Vikings hierarchy). Paton was in Minnesota for Favre, McNabb, Ponder, Teddy, Keenum and Cousins. He saw it all.

No mention of Kirk Cousins

Florio was taken aback by Paton’s blatant disregard of Kirk Cousins’ locker room presence. But why? Are we surprised that Cousins didn’t immediately lift the Minnesota Vikings locker room in the same way Brett Favre once did? I mean… that isn’t news.

We’ve heard all the stories of Favre’s arrival in Minneapolis and how quickly his teammates bought into and trusted his leadership. From locker room shenanigans to in-huddle dominance, Favre was the ultimate teammate. He was the type of leader who doesn’t come around often. That’s part of why he owns a Super Bowl and multiple league MVP’s.

Kirk Cousins, on the other hand, has NEVER had that type of intangible reputation. It’s been well-documented that he struggles to grab control of a locker room in the way many great QB’s have. Hell, his voice cracks when he tries to talk to loud.

Remember when Kyle Rudolph wrote a manifesto about his time in Minnesota, thanking just about everyone ever involved with the franchise? Thousands of words and not one mention Kirk Cousins, who played QB and threw him footballs nearly half of his career with the Vikings.

Kirk is who we know he is

Whether Florio wants to admit it or not, we knew who Kirk Cousins was long before Mr. PFT chatted with George Paton over the weekend. He isn’t Brett Favre and he may not even be Russell Wilson. Kirk’s a capable pocket passer who can look really good if you give him consistent time in the pocket. Want a confident locker room leader? Find someone else.

Under Kevin O’Connell, Kirk could very well take another step forward, much like Matt Stafford did in 2021-22. But if he does, it’ll be thanks to KOC’s offensive acumen. Not because Kirk suddenly changed as a human being.

Can he improve enough to win a Super Bowl with a better offensive coaching staff? We’ll soon find out.

A Minnesota Vikings Best/Worst of the Decade… but Different. https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/a-minnesota-vikings-best-worst-of-the-decade-but-different/ https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/a-minnesota-vikings-best-worst-of-the-decade-but-different/#respond Mon, 30 Dec 2019 13:07:47 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=20195 ICYMI, the Author of this blog is British and needs a Translation Key:

*British people spell a lot of words wrong: “graying, defense, and savior” are all misspelled in this piece.

*British men use the c-word as if it’s a replacement for “asshole” in our profanity dictionary, and get away with it for whatever reason… (I’ve seen it in movies too)

*they also use weird words like “twat” and “wanker”

*I have no idea what a “Hokey Cokey” is… sorry.

———-

We are approaching the end of another decade and everyone is doing a top-10 this; or a top 10 that, of the decade. I am different. I am a non-chest hair shaving, *greying, British man; who loves being unique (or a *cunt, whatever works).

So, here is your Minnesota Vikings TOP-6 “Good, Bad and Ugly” of the decade:

Let’s start happy and end in misery. We have had a lot of good this decade, but here is my top 6!

  1. The Minneapolis Miracle: It was 2am or 3am or something late am for me on this cold night in January. The kids were asleep, I was lying in bed on my own, sad. Head on the pillow, staring at my phone wondering what happened to the *defence in the second half? And then Keenum steps in to
I do a full-on burpee in bed. My first one ever! Jumping up and down. Silently cheering and punching the air
Vikings win it! Goosebumps. Still. I will be telling my grand kids to tell their grand kids about this one
  2. Adrian Peterson MVP season: Purple Jesus ran for TWO THOUSAND and NINETY-SEVEN (2,097) yards! Coming off of a career threatening injury, he battled back to win the league’s MVP, in a year where he carried the Vikings into playoffs. The O-line got some credit for giving him the holes, but boy did he fill them (Giggidy)! I was personally thankful I picked him up in the 3rd round of my fantasy draft that year!
  3. Rob Brzezinski: If someone told the 13-year-old me that a Math geek would make some arbitrary top 6 list in 2019, I would have been walking around with even more awkward erections than what I remember (I remember there being a lot)! Instead I got a $0.99 cone from McDonald’s for getting a statistically impossible 103% in the math test. But enough about my awkward and lonely teen years, Mr. B is the hero we don’t deserve. We signed Kirk to a guaranteed deal, extended Hunter, Diggs, Thielen, Barr, Kendricks, Griffen
all thanks to a guy who was good with numbers. Nerds of the world salute you sir!
  4. WR bargains: Did you know that Adam Thielen was undrafted? Yeah crazy right! He nearly became a dental equipment salesman. The horror! We also found something called a “Diggs” in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL draft. Both are now absolute cornerstones of the team. You would easily stud them out to mate with your wife or girlfriend. Or both!
  5. Aaron Rodgers getting hurt: Now before any of your Boomers/Gen Z (who ever you pricks are) come into my mentions (that’s @UKSkol on Twitter) with “you really gonna celebrate an injury brah?”. I am not celebrating the injury. I am enjoying the amount of whining he did post-injury. I mean, he walked into A. Barr and we all know A-Rod can’t handle his drink. But of course, the NFL sucked him off and changed the rule, and as a result Clay Matthews got punished. It was the gift that kept on giving

  6. US Bank Stadium: What a beaut! It is loud, modern and fucking beautiful! It is better than Wembley, and that is high praise coming from a Brit. My only game at the Bank will forever be cherished in my memory as one of the best days in my life!

The bad, ugly, painful, and/or crying in the fetal position Top-6:

  1. 27 yard field goal: I don’t want to talk about it. It was TWENTY-SEVEN FUCKING YARDS BLAIR. *Twat. No, I am fine. I am over it. Just kick the damn thing straight. You weren’t even close with-it you *wanker. I am fine. Honestly. Prick.
  2. The 2018 offensive line: You spend $84 million on a quarterback and you put a sieve in front of him. You might as well have IR’d the poor fucker, at the start of the season. Poor Kirk stood no chance. We started with Remmers and Compton at guard. Elflein at *centre and Hill at RT! The horror. Anyway, Kirk got to taste the US Bank turf really well!
  3. Laquon Treadwell: The *saviour. All we needed was a wide receiver to get us over the hump. Forget the awesome linebackers, Myles Jack and Jaylon Smith. Forget Xavien Howard or Michael “145 receptions” Thomas. Laquon Treadwell was the *saviour. 9 starts. ONE catch. 15 yards… Decent catch radius, though!
  4. Brett Favre’s second season: This one just sneaks into the decade. 2009 was great – NFCCG, 4200+ yards and a career best QB rating of 107.2. We had to bring him back, right? No brainer! I mean he is a Vikings HOFer, after all. 13 games, 2500 yards and the worst QB rating of his Vikings HOF career, this went bad quick. But we will always have the 1st of November, 2009 and the four touchdowns you threw at Lambeau.
  5. Tony Sparano: No jokes. This was sad. RIP Tony Sparano
  6. US Bank Stadium killing the birds: We built this beautiful stadium with 200,000 feet of glass. Apparently, glass reflects the sky. Who knew?! The dumbass birds get confused and crash into the glass and die. Get this, on average 111 birds die every year at the US Bank stadium. Well, that and the hopes of 66,655 Vikings fans far too often…

Ah the ugly. Brace yourself. You are about to enter a dark part of the decade. This section will haunt you.

Maybe grab a strong drink before you read on
whatever skinny-canned seltzer you Americans are drinking this month.

  1. 38-7: Sigh. We just came off a miracle win at home. The Eagles had a backup quarterback, Napoleon Dynamite. We are looking at a super bowl at our new home stadium with a win. “Bring it home” is the cover photo for every single Vikings fan on Twitter. First drive was exactly by script, Case marches the team down the field. Rudy scores. Paint the end zone in the purple colours fellas, it is coming home. But then, shit got ugly. Like your wife screaming at you during birth because “YOU PUT THIS THING IN ME!”, ugly. It was all a blur after the interception. I just wanted it to end. Please, make it stop

  2. Adrian Peterson hitting his kid: Why AP? Why? You were league MVP. a hero in every Vikings fans’ eyes. Then you do that shit. I could never wear his jersey again after that shit. This isn’t 1950’s America anymore. It wasn’t just the action that was ugly. It was the ban for the year and how the whole situation just left the fanbase in purgatory. Is he coming back? Do we trade him? Nope, he’s staying… It was U-G-L-Y. We should have just traded his ass to Somali or something.
  3. Teddy’s knee: Who got excited for what Teddy could do, after he made those two throws against the Chargers in the preseason? This guy! New stadium, solid team, Teddy firing… Postseason, here we come! — *Beep beep* — ‘Oh I got a text message’, “FUCK! WHAT?! HOW?! Why is Rick is crying??” — Yup, it was Ugly. This didn’t go as planned at all. We are known for our knee injuries but this one was gut wrenching. The guy had potential and the team loved him… it all had so much promise.
  4. Zimmer’s eye: Well this was just crazy. Mike Zimmer scratches his eye. Has a gazillion surgeries and still can’t see out of it! What the hell kinda crazy ass shit is this?! For a long time all we saw in the news cycles was news on his eyes. We even had Mike Priefer as acting head coach, for a crucial game against Dallas, because of an eye surgery. You can’t write this shit. Well, I am… But you know what I mean.
  5. Sam Bradford’s knee: We loves our knew injuries, amirite? But this was just puzzling. Who got a boner when Sam absolutely torched the Saints on that Monday night in September? I did. I wanked over his throw to Jarius Wright several times. This was the year for sure. Or not.. another freak knee injury, one *Hokey Cokey in Chicago, and we’re suddenly looking at starter, Case Kennum with Teddy as a back up.That lead to our rinsing in the NFCCG. What the hell kind of ugly is this? I still don’t know what happened to his knees? Carpet burns?!
  6. US Bank Stadium super bowl: 1.061 billion Dollars spent on the state of the art facility. Bid for super bowl and win the bid. Build a team to win the super bowl. Make the game
well almost. We have covered this already. But we wasted the opportunity to make US Bank the greatest place in Vikings history. Ever.

Brett Favre was Concussed in the 2009 NFC Championship https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/brett-favre-concussed-2009-nfc-championship/ https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-vikings/brett-favre-concussed-2009-nfc-championship/#respond Thu, 11 Jan 2018 11:57:10 +0000 https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/?p=6708

While answering a question presented by KFAN, Brett Favre discussed some of his memories from the infamous “Bountygate” game. The legendary gunslinger implied that he suffered a concussion during what was the most “violent” contest of his career.

As mentioned a couple of days ago, all of my animosity this week is being saved for Sean Payton. Whether it’s the jackass at the gas station, or the absurdly expensive new brakes I just bought for my car, preserving my anger has been difficult. This article should be therapeutic.

First of all, in NO WAY am I glad that Favre suffered a concussion. However, last I checked, we can’t rewind the clock and find a way to avoid the head trauma. With that being said, for the sake of avoiding an ulcer, I appreciate the timing of this development.

The anger levels are already dropping.

Anywho, a documentary featuring Favre is set to be released on Thursday night. Besides being featured in it, number 4 is also the executive producer of “Shocked: A Hidden Factor in the Sports Concussion Crisis.” As the title implies, the show will focus around head injuries and their effects.

With the 3-time MVP making the rounds to promote the film, he spoke in great detail regarding his experiences during the tainted NFC title game.

The Hall of Famer offered verbiage that details how a concussion doesn’t have to entail an athlete who is obviously impaired. After prefacing the below statement with that information, he refers to the January 24, 2010 heartbreak as “that game”:

Outside of the pictures on his cell-phone, Favre seems like a pretty stand up guy. When someone notoriously tough like him talks injuries, it carries more meaning. Regardless, it’s not like he’s saying anything we can’t see on tape. I wonder what the Mississippi native has to say about this one:

As for the main Saints involved; Darren Sharper is currently rotting away, serving his 18 year prison sentence. It’s probably tough to reach him for comment. The main culprit, Gregg Williams, just went 0-16 as the Cleveland Browns DC. Let’s hope that happens again next season.

That leaves Minnesota fans with the ratty-ass Saints HC. Unfortunately, according to some, Sean Payton is thriving.

Despite how he’s portrayed, Payton isn’t a top NFL coach. He’s 32-32 over his last four seasons. That’s a .500 win percentage with an arguably top-five all-time QB. The 54 year-old is so defensively incompetent, he thought the less intelligent Ryan brother, Rob, would make a good New Orleans DC.

The only coach in NFL modern history to be suspended has a Super Bowl ring. I get that. Mike McCarthy also has one of those. If you ask me, those two are nothing more than the coaching versions of Joe Flacco. Hell, some of the craziest women I know were able to get the rings they were pursuing, when they REALLY put their mind to it. Does that mean a successful marriage? HELL NO.

Beating New Orleans on Sunday would severely concuss two birds with one stone. First and foremost, the Vikings would advance. Second, it would help reduce this skewed image that Sean Payton is an elite football coach.

It just sucks there’s no way to make him feel some of the physical pain that Favre experienced. Wait, what? Nice! Apparently someone figured out how:
