Rhodes/Vikings Close to Deal with More in Talks… But Not Bradford

It looks like Xavier Rhodes is getting ready to sign the lucrative extension we were all expecting. According to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, Rhodes is looking at $70M over 5 years. $14M/year on average would put him in the top tier CB pay scale.

Rhodes deserves it as he is emerging as one of the few shutdown corners in the league. Mike Zimmer’s defensive scheme relies on him to be that guy. It gives Zimmer the freedom to send his favorite blitz packages and stay heavy on the other side of the field.

We all saw the Xavier deal coming but according to Tomasson, there is more we should be ready for:

“Sources said the Vikings want to lock up key members of their defense for the long term, and are also talking about extensions for defensive tackle Linval Joseph and linebackers Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks.”

All of these guys are important and it looks like the Vikings are going to have a top defense for years to come.

However, there is still ONE QUESTION all the fans are asking:

There. Now I’m swearing…

We are yet to get a good explanation as to why we haven’t heard about any contract talks with the most important player and position in this entire organization. The starting quarterback. It blows my mind.

As someone who constantly tries to remember that these front-office people all know more and are all smarter than I am, I still don’t get this. There has to be something I don’t know about Teddy. Right? Things must look better than any of us are expecting.

Unless Teddy is going to come back THIS SEASON and show the world he has a chance to be a full-blown starting NFL QB, I can’t make sense of it.

Maybe that is it. Maybe Teddy is a walking, talking miracle.

We should still extend Bradford and figure out what to do with Teddy when that time comes.
