Vikings Keep Season Alive With Ugly Win vs Hapless, Wounded Bears

The Minnesota Vikings moved to 2-4 on Sunday, with an ugly 19-13 win in Soldier Field, over the Chicago Bears. It’s their 5th-straight victory vs their division rival and 4th-straight time beating them in the Windy City.

Chicago started with Justin Fields as their quarterback, but he left in the 2nd half, after hurting his right arm while being sacked by Danielle Hunter. You’d think the Bears’ backup QB would be a grizzled veteran meant to help guide Justin Fields through the difficulties of being a young starter with big expectations.

But we’re talking about the Chicago Bears. So, naturally, they have a rookie QB out of Shepherd College, which, after a quick Google search, I’ve learned is a DII school in West Virginia. But no matter the QB, Chicago’s offense is straight trash homie.

Vikings offense struggles without Justin Jefferson

Minnesota’s offense didn’t look that much better. Kirk Cousins navigated his way through the contest as best he could but you can feel the lack of talent he has to choose from, without Justin Jefferson out wide. Jordan Addison is an above average WR2 and same can be said about KJ Osborn as a WR3, or even Brandon Powell as a WR4.

But if you have to move any of those players up one level, all are suddenly below average. Same can be said for TJ Hockenson. Outside of dropping too many footballs, there’s no doubt he finds himself open quite often, as a second option in the offense, to JJ.

TJ got open more often and found his stick ’em, as the game went on. But in the first half, Hockenson was nowhere to be found, and when he did find a crease in the defense, he struggled to catch the ball yet again.

The Vikings were actually outgained offensively by the Bears, 220-275. Cousins threw for a season low 181 yards and 1 touchdown. Oh, and the Minnesota running game looked as bad as it has in 3 weeks. But, Kirk hit Addison in the endzone once and the hapless Bears took care of the rest.

49ers will not be as bad as the Bears

When it comes to the Chicago Bears, the biggest concern division-wide should be the very high likelihood that they end up with Caleb Williams or Drake Maye. Because I cannot see them beating anybody else the rest of the season.

It may not have been pretty and the Minnesota Vikings will not win next Monday vs the San Francisco 49ers, if they play like that again, but they put a 2nd mark in the win column in week 6, keeping hope alive, for at least a little while.
