NFL Draft week is officially upon us and how better to start the festivities than with a hot rumor from a VERY reliable reporter that has the Minnesota Vikings trying to jump into Thursday’s top-10. Tom Pelissero (NFL Network) said this morning that the Lions (#7) and the Panthers (#8) have received calls from three teams about the possibility of a draft night trade, Spielman’s Vikings being one of them.

“The hot spot right now is at the bottom of the top-10, specifically the Lions at 7 and the Panthers at 8, have been fielding a lot of phone calls. That makes sense because when you look at Carolina at 8 as well as the Broncos at 9, both those teams are threats to potentially take an offensive tackle or maybe even a quarterback. So, if you want one of those two positions then you may have to get ahead of them.

So, who’s calling to move up? I can tell you that the Eagles have made a lot of phone calls, although that’s Howie Rozeman. He calls everybody, every year about every pick, just to see what it would take. The Vikings have been active working the phones. That would probably be if one of those offensive tackles ends up sliding.”

Who is Rick Targeting

At first glance, I 100% would have guessed that Spielman was hoping to see if Penei Sewell (Oregon – OT) fell to 7 or 8. But then Paul Allen (KFAN), who could call Rick and probably get the answer if he wanted it badly enough, said Rashawn Slater (NW – OT/OG) is the Vikings’ likely target.

I love draft season.
