Minnesota Vikings GM Hire Coming Soon… Maybe PoFO Too

The Minnesota Vikings finished are halfway through their early offseason run of “Offseason Team Activities” or “OTAs”, as you will likely hear them called. Already, we’ve gotten all we could have asked for out of the supposed QB competition in Eagan, and it happened at the microphone, not on the football field.
But believe it or not, there are more players than Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy at TCO Performance Center this week, just like there are other priorities that the organization is juggling, alongside OTA practices.
Minnesota Vikings complete in-person general manager interviews
While we all zoom in on the practice fields out in Eagan, the Wilf family is more so focused on their search for a new general manager, which continues to surge forward. In fact, the Minnesota Vikings reportedly completed their second round of official in-person interviews on Thursday.
Rob Brzezinski is the only internal candidate being considered. The four external candidates are all assistant GMs elsewhere — Reed Burkhardt (Broncos), Terrance Gray (Bills), Nolan Teasley (Seahawks) and John McKay (Rams) — who was the last candidate to interview, according to Vikings beat reporter and insider, Ben Goessling (Star Tribune).
The #Vikings completed their second round of GM interviews today, with Rams assistant GM John McKay the final candidate to interview in Eagan. We’ll see how their deliberations go from here, but it’s possible we’ll have a GM hire by next week.

Up too this point, the Wilfs have been openly opposed to the idea of hiring a president of football operations, instead insisting that they are going with a standard GM hire, assumedly whether Rob wins it or not.
However, the further we get in the hiring process the more insiders are reporting that the Vikings have a position lined up for their 25+ year executive, no matter who is hired as their new general manager. So yet again, the PoFO conversation is worth having.
Low and behold, in his latest “Access Vikings” podcast episode, Goessling suddenly sounded more open to considering Brzezinski as the Minnesota Vikings’ new president of football operations, which would then allow one of the four external candidates to be hired as general manager.
Wilfs softening to Rob Brzezinski as president of football ops?
Thus, Ben’s new mention of the idea could signal that the Wilfs are becoming more open to that kind of front office structure. No matter what they decide, though, it sounds like we’ll have a new MN Vikings GM as soon as next week.
Listening to @BenGoessling it seems like the Wilfs might be softening to the idea of Rob Brzezinski as Vikings president of football operations, then hiring one of the external candidates as GM… 👀

“It seems to me that.. this idea that you would have a younger GM come in, and if that happens, Rob Brzezinski ends up with some, you know, promotion out of this. I wouldn’t be surprised by that.
I mean, Rob Brzezinski is a guy that has a lot of respect from the Wilfs, has a lot of respect in that building, and earned a lot of compliments for the way he managed things this offseason. So, does he end up in some kind of a president of football operations role if this doesn’t go his way to get the full-time GM search?
I don’t know how they will structure that but I do remember in 2022, before Rick Spielman was fired, there was this discussion — I think probably being floated by Spielman’s camp to an extent — of would he end up in some kind of a president of football operations role that is a little broader than just running the roster.
I think that will be something to to consider. I mean, that may have been spun from nothing back then, but I tend to think that it was at least talked about. So, you know, it’s worth keeping that in mind. Would they do something like that with Rob Brzezinski? I wouldn’t rule that out. And then you maybe pair him with a younger GM to go about it that way.”
