Dalvin Cook and Jimmy Fallon Make Media into “Swiss Chard” with Interview Prank
Two weeks ago, vs the Green Bay Packers, Dalvin Cook single-handedly reversed the course of the Minnesota Vikings 2020 season. He ran all over the Packers defense and the purple walked out of Lambeau Field with a victory, punishing Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur for coming into a division game with too much cock in their walk.
A couple of days later, Dalvin Cook took to zoom to discuss a his dominant performance and a Vikings win. The entire interview was gold and I recommend you watch all 8 minutes. But the beginning of the interview stuck out.
I cut the entire "swiss chard" interaction between Dalvin Cook and reporters 2 weeks ago… including live reactions. #Vikings pic.twitter.com/BCC4oCwpwn

I asked Dalvin Cook about the Vikings No. 1 designed run % and how the offense has evolved to that.

"We just run yards like Swiss chard"
Can someone explain this phrase to me?
A little behind the scenes of how confused @CourtneyRCronin, @SamEkstrom and I were when Dalvin Cook said “I run yards like Swiss chard.” https://t.co/2GsmLMMCkv pic.twitter.com/oXKZxaTpuq

WTF is “Swiss Chard”?
Nobody knew what “swiss chard” was. I still don’t. It’s vegetable or plant that spreads easily? I don’t know. It doesn’t matter.
Those of us who heard it live, just figured it was a phrase used down south that we weren’t aware of in Minnesota. Maybe it is… but it’s not something Dalvin Cook would normally use. As it turns out, Cook was part of a late show bit for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon called, “Drop It In”.
Jimmy Fallon partnered with a few different NFL stars and gave them all random sayings to repeat in media interviews that week. Some went better than others. Dalvin Cook probably played his the straightest.
Either way, this is the best night show bit I’ve seen in a long time.
