Update: Test Results on Byron Buxton Injury Reveal Good News

Minnesota Twins fans are cautiously breathing a sigh of release Tuesday, after learning a bit more about Byron Buxton’s injury from Monday evening. Buck got his cleat caught in the Target Field turf going back on a Nelson Cruz fly ball and the outlook wasn’t good, early.

The Twins center fielder had to be carted off the field. It’s been mass panic among the fanbase ever since. Usually, we see Buxton go down due to his aggressiveness when playing the field or running the bases. This was different, but a major concern nonetheless.

Positive Signs Early

Some actual test results are starting to come back, though, and things are looking a bit brighter. We have multiple reports and direct quotes from Rocco Baldelli, that team doctors have found nothing serious yet. Buxton is still hurting, badly though… which is worrisome.

While we still do not know the full extent of the injury, including whether he will be ready to play on Opening Day, we can take plenty of solace in these reports. Hopefully we will see him sooner, rather than later.

Even if Buxton isn’t 100% ready for Opening Day, or the Twins have to utilize a more cautious approach to his usage, they are in decent shape to fill his role. We’d probably see a lot of LaMonte Wade Jr. or Jake Cave, who have both shown their worth in the big leagues.

While Minnesota Twins fans may cause a fuss over those two, it’s difficult to arbue how serviceable they have been, when called upon. Whatever happens, the Twins seem to have dodged a bullet and should still find themselves in excellent shape to repeat as AL Central champions. Continue to pray to the baseball gods and throw an extra one in for Byron Buxton.
