While you spent your weekend watching the NFL Draft, the Minnesota Twins spent their’s making a mockery of the Baltimore Orioles. They had to set aside an entire wing at the East Bank Hospital just for neck injuries to Oriole pitchers. I don’t care how long the MLB season is, there’s no recovering from a weekend like the Orioles were just put through while visiting the beautiful Twin Cities.

23 home runs over six games that were played between the two teams during an 8 day stretch from April 20-28. I’m bad at math but my calculator says that’s 3.83 HR’s per game during that 6-game season sweep.
But life for the Twins is about to get a lot more difficult this week. It’s another big test week for our favorite baseball team. They’ll open a 4-game series tonight at home vs. the #1 team in the AL West, the (17-11) Houston Astros.

During the series, the Twins are scheduled to face Justin Verlander, Garret Cole, Collin McHugh, and Wade Miley. Those four starters help anchor an entire pitching staff that poses a top-5 ERA across all of the MLB. We’re not facing Baltimore anymore…

So, don’t expect balls to be exiting Target Field like they did over the weekend but the hitters that OUR pitchers will be facing will be at another level too. The Astros team-wide, stand 2nd in the MLB in OPS with a whopping .823, top-10 in Runs Scored at 132, and 4th in HRs with 45…
Don’t let that scare you though, Twins fans, since we are one of the few teams ahead of them in all of those categories (1st – .846 | 4th – 140 | 2nd – 49) – stats via baseball-reference.com.

Looking up stats like that is time consuming so let’s wrap this bad boy up. The Twins are really good and so are the Astros. The next four games will be fun. When the Astros leave town after Thursday’s final game, the Twins will aboard a plane as well.
Destination: New York City.
If you’ve been a Twins fan during the last 20 years, you know that we are owned by the New York Yankees. All we do every year is pad their Win column and, when we rarely make the playoffs, we’re an easy series bye that has allowed them to stay warm while getting ready for the next round when they have to get serious.
For an easy summary, the Twins are 44-103 since 2000 vs the Yankees (13-2 in playoffs) according to mcubed.net…
If the Twins are going to come out of this week still smelling like a top American League team, they’ll have earned that rose-smelling shit by eating W’s vs two of the best and hottest teams in the league. Not only do the Yankees own us historically, but they also enter the week red-hot, winning 11 of their last 13 games.
