I wonder if Sano and Buxton feel any extra pressure to perform with every single free agency signing that is made. Well for one, these 1-year deals make it obvious. But, I’m sure the front office has told Sano and Buxton that they are the keys to the future. That there will be no building up if it isn’t around those two.
Meanwhile, we wait… and 1-year deals tread water while we do so.
I’m not hating on the strategy. We’re all on PAUSE when it comes to the Twins because of Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano’s slower-than-expected development.
Anyway, Blake Parker has had an interesting career. He’s older, at age 33, and has bounced around, starting with the Cubs before surgery to remove bone chips eventually ended his time there. He was then signed by Seattle before the 2016 season. He played his way back from injury through the minors.
He was called up by the Mariners for one inning before being designated back down for assignment because he was out of minor league options. He never made it back down though because the Yankees claimed him off of waivers before he could get there.
2017 Resurgence
Parker was signed by the Angels for the 2017 season and he was out for blood. He pitched in 71 games (6th in the MLB among relievers) and 67.1 innings where the Angels’ reliever posted a 2.54 ERA with 86 strikeouts and only 16 walks…

2018 wasn’t quite as successful but it was good and Parker remained healthy.

Now, what will we see at starting pitcher? I know the waiting game is on but those pockets are lines with serious cash that is just waiting to be paid to someone. Can they find a number 1 or 2 guy who is willing to go on a 1 or 2 year deal?
