New Sano Injury Mystery Reminds Me of Last Year’s…. Which Ended with a Metal Rod
I want to preface this by stating that I know nothing more than the average rube on this situation. I have no knowledge, outside of what everyone else can read, about Miguel Sano’s hamstring injury and how his recovery has been coming along.
Now that we have that out of the way, here is what I DO know about Miguel Sano and his injuries:
They linger.
Our beloved 3rd baseman (for now) has VERY RECENT history of what we thought was a minor injury, that instead became a major pain in the Minnesota Twins’ ass.

Miguel Sano will undergo surgery on Nov. 13 in New York. He suffered a stress reaction to his left shin that never fully healed

Another disclaimer: I AM NOT CALLING OUT MIGUEL SANO FOR HIS THOUGHNESS. Have you seen that guy? I wouldn’t recommend doing that.
Something to think about when you remember the many people reacting to that injury by calling Miguel Sano lazy or unmotivated or overweight.

I’m worried. I’m worried because we need a productive Miguel Sano in this lineup. His stress reaction in his shin was supposed to be a minor injury that turned into a 10-day DL stint, which then extended far beyond 10 days, which then led to a metal rod being inserted there permanently. You can’t fix a bad hamstring with a metal rod. I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing in this case.
Many have questioned Miguel Sano’s weight and try to attribute that to his high-injury rate and slow-to-go returns. I’m not going to do that. Again, Miguel Sano is WAY bigger than me and I’m not going to call him fat.
I’m also not a doctor. I’ll say this, though. I can’t help but wonder….
Originally, I was with many other bloggers/journalists who scolded Jim Souhan for his reporting on Sano’s weight back in August, 2017, and the consternation it was causing inside the organization. Souhan currently looks like the smart one here. Not difficult next to me.
Miguel Sano hit a baseball into his shin, so Jim Souhan wrote about… his weight? https://t.co/jR9DypIAOr pic.twitter.com/ufujCJxFO2

So, where do we sit now?
We wait.
Again, no insider info on this one. My DM’s are certainly open if you do.
Misery loves company. If I was going to ruin my Tuesday night thinking about this, then I thought I’d ruin some Wednesdays for those who read.
Twins Notes:
– Sano was replaced on the MLB roster (and placed in Tuesday’s lineup) by Gregorio Petit who has been in the big leagues quite a few times. For those wondering where much-anticipated Nick Gordon is, now that the big club needs an infielder? Gordon started the season in AA Chattanooga where he’s been raking pitchers all over the coals of his smoldering bat, posting a .345 BA, with 12 RBI and 10 Runs in 23 games. This is HOPEFULLY a short-term problem, however for Sano, so it makes sense that the Twins would go with a short-term solution in Petit.
– Fernando Romero will make his first start on Wednesday. He is considered a top 3 Twins prospect by most. Read more about his call up from @JohnnyMN HERE.
