Buxton named Player of the Week:

Byron Buxton has been playing out of his mind. In yesterday’s MSF Daily, I went into how well he has been playing since his return from injury. Well, today he was named American League Player of the Week. Dane Mosher talks about Byron’s rise (Click the picture)

Aaron Gleeman REALLY likes the way Buxton is playing too. He ran some numbers as well. He is really good at numbers.

If Buxton can continue this upward climb, he will fulfill his long-awaited prophecy of being the player all the top MLB Scouts saw him as.



Miguel Sano still NO baseball activities after injury:

It is fun to think about what this Twins offense would be like if it had a healthy streaking Miguel Sano in the lineup next to the exploding Buxton and Polanco.

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like we are that close to knowing when that will happen. Here is RotoWorld.com on the matter:

“8/28:Minnesota Twins third baseman Miguel Sano reported that his left leg is feeling better, but he’s still not cleared for baseball activity. The slugger has been sidelined since August 20 after experiencing a stress reaction in his left leg. He is eligible to be activated this Wednesday but, given his slow progress, he will not be activated by then. Sano is batting .267 with 28 homers, 75 runs, and 77 RBI in 111 games this season. Utility-man Eduardo Escobar has been filling in at third base with Sano sidelined.”—Matt Terelle – Rotoballer

Twins start series vs White Sox on Tuesday:

The Twins currently sit at 67-63. They are 1.5 games ahead of the Angels who still play yet before this is printed on Monday night. The White Sox are just 52-77. The Twins need to continue to win these types of series.

However, I AM CALLING FOR A SWEEP! The Twins need a big momentum push going to the weekend where they will play Kansas City. Kansas City sits just 1 game under .500 and their season isn’t totally over yet. It would be a good idea to get some distance going into that series. The White Sox are a AAA baseball team at this point. The Twins have their best 3 pitchers going (Santana, Berrios, Colon). This series should be a sweep. That is what I am expecting.

Michael Russo is leaving the StarTribune:

Michael Russo is my favorite sports writer. That is saying something since I am not a hockey guy.

Spoiler alert: I don’t do the hockey coverage for our site. That is covered by Zak now, possibly being joined by others going forward…

I don’t know what it is about Russo’s writing that I like so much, to be honest. There is just something about the way he writes that is intriguing. He also has a vast and respected knowledge of hockey. Here is his tweet and letter about his career change:

Whatever and wherever he goes, he will be successful.

Marcus Fuller talks with Amir Coffey and Eric Curry:

Marcus Fuller of the StarTribune sat down with sophomores Amir Coffey and Eric Curry recently to discuss the upcoming Gophers season and Eric Curry’s new hair cut.

When asked about who wins in practice between he and Murphy, he had this to say:

“Murph has developed a jumper as well. So that’s going to help out a lot. People already can’t guard him in the post as it is. So him stretching his game is going to be hard for people to guard him even more.”

Here is what Amir Coffey had to say about what he has been working on this summer:

“My shooting ability is one of the main things I’ve focused on this summer. I think I showed that well down there (at Nike camp). Stepping up and hitting from three-point range. My dribbling was something I’ve worked on and my strength as well. I’m weighing a little over 200 pounds.  That’s a good weight for my position at the next level.”

Vikings Social Media fallout after 49ers game:

The Vikings didn’t look up to what the fans are expecting on Sunday Night during the 3rd preseason game vs the Niners. It was flat out ugly, at times. The supposedly dominant defense was torn apart by Brian Hoyer and the offense was stagnant at times while stalling out due to mistakes and penalties at other times.
