Byron Buxton Re-Injures Himself Trying to Steal
The Minnesota Twins are looking to grab an extremely rare series victory against the New York Yankees Sunday in the Bronx, after clobbering the home team for 11 runs on America’s 250th birthday.
And the first inning started much like Saturday’s. Austin Martin lead off the contest with a double, before recently named All-Star starter Byron Buxton reached on an infield single. But then, Buxton tried to steal 2nd base… and it did not go well.

Not only was Buck thrown out for the first time since May 1, 2024, but after he walked off the field at Yankee Stadium, he did not come out of the dugout for the bottom of the first inning, replaced in center field by Kyler Fedko.
Buxton’s initial reaction from the dugout does not paint a pretty picture, but hopefully he’s just mad about snapping his streak of safe steal attempts?

It took a little while, but the Minnesota Twins eventually revealed the Buxton’s injury is a reaggravation of the right hip injury that has sidelined him for multiple games this season.
While he’s remained mostly healthy for the second-straight season, the 32-year-old is coming off of a recent hip injury that cost him four games, but did not result in a trip to the injured list.

Byron Buxton entered Sunda afternoon’s game in the Big Apple touting a .269 batting average and .900 OPS. His 25 home runs are second most in Major League Baseball, which has helped him pile up 45 RBIs on the league’s No. 1 offense.
