Alex Kirilloff Labrum Surgery Goes Better Than Expected

Alex Kirilloff was one of the Minnesota Twins who needed offseason surgery, after the team’s run to the American League Division Series in 2023.

It isn’t the first time surgery has been on the offseason schedule for Kirilloff. This time, however, it wasn’t his oft-injured wrist that needing fixing. Instead, Alex had a procedure late last week to repair what he and the Twins expected to be a torn labrum in his shoulder.

If that seems like good news, it actually gets even better. When surgeons got a better look at his labrum, they realized it wasn’t for at all, allowing them to to repair it with a less invasive procedure that should make recovery easier and faster.

Kirilloff great when healthy

The 25-year-old Kirilloff has been one of the best, most promising young Twins hitters coming up, when healthy. But every time he is not fully healthy, his play falls off a cliff, which is what we saw in the playoffs this year, before he was replaced on the postseason roster in game 4 of the ALDS by Byron Buxton.

Hopefully, today’s positive development is a sign that his body will be more prepared and durable in 2024 than it has been to this point in his professional baseball career.
