When Anthony Edwards Switches to Football He’s Playing Defense

The photoshoot of the decade finally arrived on Tuesday morning. With the Minnesota Timberwolves set to kick off their regular season, and the Vikings in the midst of theirs, Anthony Edwards and Justin Jefferson took center stage for ESPN.
As has been the case since he arrived on the scene, Anthony Edwards is brimming with confidence. Convinced he could excel in virtually any arena and any sport, he’s recently hinted at a possible future in football. Some laugh, but Ant isn’t.
Minnesota Timberwolves Anthony Edwards is eyeing safety
It seems virtually unfathomable that Anthony Edwards could go play in the NFL, and actually survive. That’s probably because it is… maybe? Either way, our doubt won’t stop the Timberwolves superstar from believing it’s true.
And when he does prove us all wrong… he won’t do it on offense. Nah, Ant wants to play safety. So Justin Jefferson joked with him that we’ll see if he is for real when he has to meet a huge running back in the gap and make a tackle. To that, of course, Ant said he wants it to be Derrick Henry. To that… Jefferson was flabbergasted.

JJ: “Trying to play safety? You know how I’m gonna know you’re serious? Once you take that first lick.”
Ant: “Me and Derrick Henry.”
JJ: “WHHHAAAATTTT….. DERRICK HENRY….?!?! BRO DO YOU KNOW HOW BIG D-HENRY IS??!!”
Ant: “I ain’t gon pop him, but I’m gonna hit that motha** fo sho.”
I’m not sure if Edwards missed Henry’s latest contest on Monday night. The 6’2″, 247 pound running back ripped off an 81-yard scamper. He has the speed of a blazing wide receiver, and hits like a Mack truck. Even if he wants to joke about being slow, I’m not sure anyone should sign up to go against King Henry willingly.

Edwards believes he can do it all, and that’s probably what propels him on the basketball court. Although he doesn’t need to prove it in tennis, or actually be the right-handed Mike Vick on the gridiron, that unwavering confidence is something he brings to all facets of his life. Ant even tweeted at Adam Schefter Tuesday morning, asking which NFL teams needs him.
@AdamSchefter what team need me right now?? What the GMs talkin bout? https://t.co/YgkfB3cdi3

And this gon’ be one of the reasons why — because he think I can’t play football. I’ma come play with you. I’m going to be [doing the hitting], though. I’m going to be playing strong safety.”

For now, let’s just hope Anthony Edwards can avoid any sorts of football hits on the court (Minnesota doesn’t play Draymond Green and the Warriors until December 6th). A healthy Edwards could be in line for his first MVP trophy.
