Former MN Timberwolves Player Evicted from Home

News has been light recently, when it comes to the Minnesota Timberwolves. That’s normal this time of year, being most players are off on vacation or working through their offseason training programs, waiting for training camp to conven in October.
Of course, NBA news never really sleeps, in part thanks to players who can’t keep out of the offseason drama, like former Timberwolves wing, Malik Beasley, who has a knack for making the news, especially when games aren’t being played.
Back when he played for Minnesota, Beasley was arrested for pointing a gun at a car that had mistakenly parked near his Twin Cities suburban home during a “Parade of Homes” event. He and his wife were also arrested on drug and weapons charges that stemmed from that original incident.

Most recently, after a stellar season on the court in Detroit, Beasley became the subject of a federal gambling investigation that is still ongoing. Should he be found guilty of whatever misconduct he’s being accused of, Malik could be suspended up to a full season.
But apparently, that wasn’t enough trouble for the 28-year-old out of Atlanta, Georgia, though. This week, according ESPN, while vacationing in Europe, Beasley was evicted from his high-rise apartment in downtown Detroit, due to his failure to pay over $7,000 in rent.
NBA free agent Malik Beasley, who is under investigation in a federal gambling probe, was evicted from his high-rise apartment in Detroit on Wednesday, according to court records.
Beasley’s landlord sued him twice this year in Michigan’s 36th District Court for a total of $21,505 in unpaid rent, the records show. The first case was dismissed in March, but the court issued an eviction order in the second suit — for $7,355 — after Beasley failed to respond.

This is actually one of two suits his landlord filed against him. The first was dismissed. In total, the lawsuits totalled over $20,000. In the midst of this eviction and lawsuits over allegedly unpaid rent, Malik is also being sued by his former marketing agency.
According to ESPN, Beasley due to a failure to pay back a $650,000 advance earlier this year, along with multiple other debts owed to his barber, dentist and well-known financing company that works with pro athletes, according to the Detroit News.
Former Minnesota Timberwolves wing cannot stay out of trouble
Malik Beasley played for the Minnesota Timberwolves from November 2020, when they signed him coming off of a 12 game suspension. In February, 2023, he was dealt to the Utah Jazz as part of the blockbuster trade that landed Rudy Gobert with the Wolves.
Beasley played a total of 130 games in Minnesota, averaging 15.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, in 28.1 minutes. Last year with the Pistons was one of Malik’s best.

He started 18 of 82 games played, averaging 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Had Beasley not been leveled with the gambling probe, Detroit was reportedly set to offer him a three-year, $42 million contract that is no longer on the table.
