Anthony Edwards Injury Not Serious

The Minnesota Timberwolves are fighting for their playoff lives right now and they’re doing it without their two best players, Anthony Edwards and Karl Anthony Towns. But there’s some good news on both fronts, there.

Anthony Edwards injury is not serious.

Ant’s injury, a sprained ankle suffered late last week vs the Bulls, isn’t as serious as it first appeared. That’s big news because the Wolves season would have been over had Edwards’ injury been more serious.

NEW YORK – Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves got some encouraging news Sunday, as Edwards seems to have avoided a long-term absence after incurring a right ankle injury Friday night in a game at Chicago.

Edwards is expected back before the season is over and sooner, rather than later. He won’t play on Monday vs the Knicks but the Wolves haven’t ruled him out for Wednesday’s game vs the Hawks. There are 10 games remaining in the regular season.

According to Hine, Ant may have benefitted, on Friday night, from ankle tape that he doesn’t usually wear. Why he decided to tape up before the Bulls game, we aren’t sure, but I’m sure glad he did.

Towns nearing return too

Karl-Anthony Towns is expected to return to the lineup soon, too. He even sent a tweet over the weekend that suggested a readiness to play. That it’s the Wolves who haven’t cleared him yet, insisting on a cautious approach to his basketball reacclimation.

Western Conference Playoff Outlook

The Minnesota Timberwolves currently sit in 9th place in the Western Conference. If that’s where they finish, the Wolves would need two wins in the play-in tournament, to make the playoff field. But don’t look now. Their 30-32 record has Minnesota just 0.5 games away from falling all the way to 12th place in the West and out of the play-in picture.

Sticking with the positive outlook of this blog, it’s important to mention that the Timberwolves are nearly as close to the 6th seed (1.5 games back) as they are to 12th. So a win streak could lift them directly into the playoff field, just like a losing streak could cost everything.
