Minnesota Timberwolves Announce Jaden McDaniels Contract Extension: Well, it’s official. Early Monday evening, the Timberwolves announced what had been reported earlier, that McDaniels agreed to a contract extension today.

Jaden McDaniels contract extension official:

McDaniels’ new deal is reportedly for 5 years, $136 million. According to the Wolves’ official release, league rules do not permit them to officially announce the terms of the deal. Once it hits the books, Jaden’s new contract will put the Timberwolves over the luxury tax threshold.

Most importantly, especially since we do not pay Glen Taylor’s bills, the Wolves have locked up a huge piece to their future puzzle. Talks between Jaden’s representation and the Wolves had been ongoing for months but many were unsure it would actually happen, prior to game 1 of 82 tips off on Wednesday. But, they beat the buzzer by a couple days.

The Wolves’ 23-year-old defensive stud had been sitting out of practice and preseason games with a reported calf injury. We’ll see if this new contract makes that calf feel better, prior to Wednesday’s season opener vs Toronto.

Jaden has always been a high-ceiling player who profiled well as a defender but had untapped offensive potential. We’ve seen that pop off sporadically, though he’s failed to find his regular role alongside Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert. We’ll see if he takes on a newfound confidence after his new deal.
