If you’ve been like every other Minnesota Twins fan, riding the Byron Buxton roller coaster of emotion since he was drafted #2 overall by the Twins in 2012, then you are NERVOUSLY excited for how our future franchise (hopefully) has started the 2019 season. Take a look at his game log before I impress you even more.[/et_pb_text][et_pb_code _builder_version=”3.22.4″] [/et_pb_code][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.22.4″]
Numbers are hard so let me give you some context. Byron Buxton has 17 hits this season. 12 of those are doubles and one is a homerun… If this guy hits outfield grass, it is more likely he gets an extra base hit than being held to a single. As a guy who felt like bases moved farther away from him as he pursued the opaque square bastards, that statistic blew my mind when I first saw it in the Star Tribune this morning. We all know Buxton is the fastest man in the MLB… but 12 doubles to 4 singles…[/et_pb_text][et_pb_code _builder_version=”3.22.4″]
The best part about his resurgence is what seems to be behind it… After years of playing the nice guy, taking advice from everyone, and trying to adjust his game, Byron Buxton has realized he shouldn’t listen to others most of the time.. because he’s better than all of them. He doesn’t need to think out the game like other players have to. He’s more talented than that. The more Byron trusts his raw ability and instincts for the baseball, the better he will be.
Buxton showed a different attitude in the offseason and entering Spring Training. Some of his quotes were worthy of double takes at the time. But as the season plays out, the truth in his words become more and more evident. He no longer worries about whether or not he belongs. He seems to realize that he doesn’t need all sorts of advice on how to be successful because prior MLB success has never looked like what Byron Buxton MLB success looks like.
I love his new COCKY Byron Buxton; this “my dick swings lower and tastes better than yours” Byron Buxton is better than any Byron Buxton I could have dreamed up. And though his confidence with the bat seems relatively new at the MLB level, he’s never doubted his speed. Cocy Byron Buxton’s newest quote after the game last night was better for my energy this morning than 3 cups of coffee and a shot of adrenaline:
“I don’t think they can throw me out, it’s as simple as that,” Buxton said of his daring tag-ups. “I’m going to run. You’ve got to throw me out.”
