There were nine Minnesota Gopher defensive players who were awarded All-Big Ten honors in 2022. Four of those defenders have moved on this offseason, to try their hands at the professional level. On Friday, they appear to have lost another, when defensive tackle, Trill Carter, entered the transfer portal.

The news was first reported by On3.com‘s Matt Zenitz and appears to be confirmed on the U of M website, where he is no longer listed on the roster.

This is another big loss for PJ Fleck and Joe Rossi’s defense, which was one of the best in the country last season. Carter played in all 12 games in 2022, posting 1.5 sacks, 12 pressures, 20 tackles in 545 snaps. He finished with a PFF grade of 62.6.

Minnesota has lost 12 players to the portal this offseason and they’ve lured six transfers out of the portal. PJ Fleck told reporters during a press conference earlier this week that he expects movement in and out of the transfer portal until July 1.
