CFB Insider Has His Eye on QB Max Brosmer, 2024 Gophers
It’s a new year for the Minnesota Gophers football team. With that, comes a new starting quarterback, with Max Brosmer transferring from New Hampshire. He replaces Athan Kaliakmanis, who is now taking over for Rutgers. Ironically enough, Rutgers is on the Gophers’ schedule this year in Week 10.
Brosmer brings three seasons of starting experience to P.J. Fleck’s team, and even though nobody believes in the Gophers, expectations are high. Or at least higher than they would be if Kaliakmanis was returning under center. One insider even thinks the Gophers even have an outside chance to be pretty good.
Could Max Brosmer and the Gophers actually be good?
Max Brosmer has improved each season of his college career, which is exactly the type of growth you want to see from a young player. As a transfer, Brosmer earned a four-star recruit ranking from 247Sports.
They viewed him as the 19th-best QB to hit the transfer portal. That was much better than the three-star recruit Kaliakmanis, who was viewed as the 74th-best QB in the portal.

With Brosmer in charge, some think the Gophers could be in for a bounce-back season, following their 6-7 record last year. The latest to buy stock in the Golden Gophers is The Athletic’s college football insider Scott Dochterman.
Last year at New Hampshire, Brosmer led the FCS in passing yards (3,464), passing yards per game (313.6) and total offense (325 yards per game). He threw for 29 touchdowns and five interceptions and was the AFCA first-team All-American and a Walter Payton Award finalist.
The Gophers have the best Power 4 receiver few people know about in Daniel Jackson and a quality running back in Darius Taylor. Brosmer provides Minnesota with the type of quarterback the program has missed on since Tanner Morgan led the Gophers to 11 wins in 2019.

Offensively, the Gophers project to be pretty good. Boasting one of the best left tackles in the nation with Aireontae Ersery certainly helps. But Darius Taylor and the running game will continue being the main oar that rows this boat. Yet, if Brosmer can do his part by elevating the passing offense, the Gophers just might smash past expectations.
