Fleck Pulls 2021 Top-100 Recruit to Campus for Unofficial BBQ Weekend Visit

Randolph Kpai isn’t the only 4-star set to row his way to Minnesota this weekend, for an unofficial visit that has become possibly the most important BBQ in Minnesota history, but he is definitely the highest rated… by like 7 points (that’s a lot). Ryan Burns of GopherIllustrated.com broke the news today on GopherIllustrated.com with hints on his Twitter account:

You don’t see .9711 rated guys walking through the University of Minnesota doors all that often. You see them actually commit to play football here even less often. In fact, the last player that highly rated, to commit to the Gophers, was in 2014 when Washburn’s own (RB) Jeff Jones committed to play for Jerry Kill & Co. He was rated a .9712 but had issues meeting academic minimums among many other things. He played in 3 games and never made a difference, before transferring to a JUCO school.

Outside of Jones, the Gophers have NEVER gotten a commitment from anyone of this recruiting caliber. The highest-rated commitment, that has actually played significantly for the Gophers, is Carter Coughlin, who will be drafted to the NFL after this season.

Getting Kpai to commit would cement PJ Fleck’s 2021 class as one of the best in the nation early-on (only 3 commitments so far). 2021 is already the class that holds the highest-rated QB commitment in Gopher history, Athan Kaliakmanis, who beams Gopher pride on social media regularly. I haven’t seen anything on a possible commitment from Randolph this weekend but I’m allowed to dream.
