Richard Pitino Feels His Job is Safe… Pretty Emphatically
Every Tuesday, Richard Pitino gets on KFAN for an hour and talks to Mike Grimm and Justin Gaard… and it is MUST-LISTEN radio every single week. PJ does the same thing during football season and it’s great too… but not Richard Pitino great.
The man is hard not to like. If you want to like him more, listen to him on the radio. Once you get past JG and Grimm repeatedly setting him up for excuses, he’s brilliant. He’s just a regular guy.
Today, with about 15 minutes left in the show, JG asked Richard the same question we have all been asking/answering about him for the last couple weeks… ‘Do you feel your job is in jeopardy’? His answer was honest… like always. I was a bit surprised by it too.
Pitino addressed if he felt like his job is in jeopardy for next season: “I don’t think it’s reality. I don’t feel like that … I think [the narrative has] been created in the last couple weeks, because we lost a couple home games.” #Gophers

More Pitino from his radio show on how he’s handled speculation about his future: “This latest one has not flustered me as much as four years ago [8-23 season]. I’ve got pretty good perspective. I love Minnesota. I want to be here a long time.” #Gophers @StribSports

I will get the audio and put his exact quote on here when the podcast is posted here shortly, but Pitino’s answer was more emphatic than Fuller tweeted out.
He answered JG’s question first, before Fuller’s quoted tweet starts, with an emphatic “no.. I don’t, because I don’t think [Twitter] is reality.”
I was taken aback, a bit. Richard Pitino is always worried about his job. He has said that he doesn’t decorate his office because he’s ready to be fired any day… so for him to emphatically say that he is NOT worried about his job, was a little shocking.
Darren Wolfson (SKOR North, KSTP) doesn’t think that’s coincidence…
Doubt he says that randomly.

Maybe Richard’s job really isn’t under fire… stay tuned, I guess.
