Pitino and Gophers have 2018 National Top 5 Class, after Kalscheur Commitment
What world are we living in?
Is Minnesota the new place to be?
Gabe Kalscheur seems to think so. Who are we to question him? He lives here. Gabe is a Senior at DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis. He is one of the best players in the state and possibly the best shooter. Kalscheur is 6’4″ and long.
He shot 117 3’s this summer, over just 15 games, hitting 44% of them, and averaging 17.7 PPG for the Howard Pulley Team that included new Gophers’ teammates, and fellow Minnesotans, (C) Daniel Oturu and (PF) Jarvis Thomas. That Howard Pulley Team also includes Tre Jones… More on that momentarily.
Kalscheur is known for his 3 point shooting but his most underrated skill is definitely his defense. Pitino is expecting Gabe to be a lock-down defender. He wants him to be a guy who can guard the opposing team’s best perimeter scorer.
Here is a highlight video from this summer:
With so many big time recruits coming to the U of M lately with the likes of Amir Coffey, Isaiah Washington, Daniel Oturu, and Jarvis Thomas, don’t sleep on Gabe. He brings exactly what the Gophers need. He brings outside shooting, which is what really hurt them late in the season last year, AND defense.
The three current MN recruits for 2018 (Oturu, Thomas, Kalscheur) are all great friends with Tre Jones, who is the highest ranked MN recruit for 2018, and the brother of Timberwolves PG-Tyus Jones. Jarvis Thomas has already admitted to trying to recruit Tre Jones as the recruit who takes the last 2018 scholarship available for the Gophers.
Here are Thomas, Kalscheur, and Jones chatting before Gabe made his commitment earlier today:

According to 247Sports.com, adding Gabe to Oturu and Thomas will give the Gophers a recruiting score of 49.74 which would be good enough to snag the #5 2018 Recruiting Class so far.
If they can grab Tre Jones…. They would take over the #1 Recruiting Class IN THE COUNTRY for 2018 and the only team in the nation that would have a score above 60 with a 60.73.
AGAIN: IF YOU KEEP MINNESOTA KIDS IN MINNESOTA, YOU WILL COMPETE FOR B1G TITLES EVERY YEAR.
Those 4 would make Minnesota the best class in the country with ALL MINNESOTA KIDS. Think about that.
